1 1 Intr oduction Thank you for purchasing th e X Power Pocket Powerp ack 100 . This pro duct is part of a family of advanced high -perfo rm ance power inverters from Xantrex, the leader in high -frequency invert er design. The XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 has two s eparate modul es: 1.
2 The XPower Pocket Powerp ack 100 uses reliable solid state power el ectro nics for years of safe, trouble- free operation and includes automatic safety monitori ng circuitry to protect it, and your battery , from inadvertent overload conditions.
3 2 Important Safety Information Misusing or incorrectly connecting the XPower Pocket Powerp ack 100 m ay da mage the equipmen t or create hazardous conditions for users. Read the follo wing safety instructi ons and pay special attent ion to all Cautio n and W a rni ng statements in the guid e.
4 WA R N I N G The inverter housing may become uncomfortably warm, reaching 140° F (60° C) under extended high power operation. During ope ration, keep it away from mater ials that may be af fected by high temper atures.
5 W ARNING: Shock hazard Use caution when inserting an AC plug into the three-prong AC outlet. The prongs of an AC plug can become bent from misuse. If an AC plug is improperly inserted into the AC outlet, a bent prong can slip outside the inve rter and become a shock hazard.
6 WA R N I N G : F i r e h a z a r d • Never c harge the Powe rpack unattended. • Charg e the Powerpac k in an isol ated area , away from other flammable materials.
7 W ARNING: P ersonal In jury • The ce lls inside the Po werpack contain toxic substances. Do not use the Powerpack if the casing is broken o r if it emits an unusual odor , produces excessive heat, or leaks. A void contact with any substan ce th at le aks from the Powerpack.

13 5 Using the Inverter Through its AC ou tlet, the XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 is capable of po weri ng most 120 V AC product s that us e 100 W or less. The XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 can also power or char ge most consumer electronics that have USB power ports.

16 Using the Airplane P ower Plug 1. Plug the DC input cable in to the DC input po rt on the inv erter module. Observe correct polarity . See Figure 4. 2. Insert the airplan e power plug in to the 12 V outlet. 3. Plug the device you want to operate int o the inverter module.
17 Airline Compatibility T a bl e 1 provi des a list of airlines, aircraft, and passenger classes that have DC power sockets compatible with the XPower Pocke t Powerpack 100.
18 Using the Inverter with P owerpack The Powerpack is designed to connect to the inverter modul e and prov ide power to operate or char ge devices that consum e 100 W or less. T o use the Powerpack: 1. Connect the inverter module to the Powerpack, ensuring that the mount ing tab on the Powerpack slides in to the slot underneath the inverter .

20 6 Inver ter O per ation Oper ation with the DC Input Cable Follow these procedures an d guidelines when usi ng the inverter module as a stan d-al one unit. 1. When the DC input cable is properly connected to a 12 V outlet, the ligh t on the i nverter mo dule will glow blue, indicating the inverter is ready .
21 • If an AC product rated high er than 100 W is plugged into the XPower Pocket Powerpack 10 0, the inverter wil l shut down. The red fault light comes on . • Applian ces such as televi sions and devices wi th motors consum e m uch m o re power than their average rating when they are switched on.
22 • Should a defective battery char ging system cause the battery volt age to rise to dangero usly high levels, the XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 automat ically shuts down . The red fau lt li ght comes on . • In the event o f an overload, low b attery voltag e or overheating, the XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 automat ically shuts down.
23 When us ing a vehicle battery a s a power source, it is strongly recom mended to start the vehicle every hour or two t o rechar g e the battery before its capacity drops too low .
24 Device Run Times T ypical portable devices that can be used with the XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 are listed in T able 2. Interfer ence with Electronic Equipment Generally , most AC products operate with the XPower Pocket Powerpack 100 just as they would with househ old AC p ower .
25 Buzzing Sound in Audio Systems and Radios Some inexpensive stereo systems and AM-FM radios have inadequate internal pow er suppl y filtering and “buzz” slightly when powere d by the XPower Pocket Powerp ack 100 . Generally , th e only sol ution is an audio pro duct with a hig her quality filter .
26 Rechar ging the P owerpack When household AC pow er is available, the Powerpack can be rechar ged using the AC Char ger . Y o u can also char ge the Powerpack using the inverter modul e with th e DC i nput cable while y ou drive you r vehicle. T o r echarge the Powerpack using household power: 1.

28 T o r e charge the Power pack using a vehicle’ s 12 V outlet: 1. If the inverter module is connected to the Powerp ack, disconnect any devices plugged into the inverter and di sconnect th e inverter from the Powerpack. 2. If necessary , attach the vehicle power outlet adapter to th e DC input cable.
29 6. Insert the DC in put cabl e into the vehicl e or airplane 12 V outlet . See Figure 7. While the Powerpack is r echar ging, the blue LED flashes every two seconds. When the Powerpack is fully char ged, the blue LED glows steadily . A typical rechar ge may take up to 1 1 ho urs.
30 7 T r o ubleshooting Gener al PROBLEM : Measured inverte r output is too low . Inverter P owered by DC Input Cable PROBLEM : A C product will not operate , no inverte r lights are ON . P o s sible cause Remedy S tandard “average- reading” AC v oltm eter used to measure output voltage, resulting in an apparent reading 5 to 15 V too l ow .

The inverter has overheated due to poor ventilation and has shut down. Unplug DC cable and allow inverter to cool 15 minutes.
33 PROBLEM : A C product will n ot operate , bl ue P o werpack ligh t is ON , inverter light is OFF . PROBLEM : A C product will n ot operate , red lights on in verter and P owerp ack are ON . 35 Replacing the Fuse The XPower Inverter has a replaceable 10 A fuse. Remove the blown fu se from the back of the unit and replace it with a Littelfuse Mini ® fuse, Littelfuse catalog num ber 29 7 010 .

46 Return Material Authorization P olicy Before returning a product d ire ctly to Xantrex y ou must obtain a Return Material Au tho rization (RMA) number and the correct factory "Ship T o" a ddress.
47 Return Pr oce dure 1. Packag e the unit safely , preferably using the original box and packing mate rials. Please en sure that your product is shipped fully insured in the original packaging or equivalent. This warranty will not apply where the pro duct is da maged due to improper packaging.
