9 Charging your tablet Using your tablet Charging your tablet For first-time use, you need t o charge your tablet for four hours. After that you can recharge the battery as needed. Importan t: You must use the provided power adapter to charge your tablet .
10 Turning on for the first time To turn on your tablet, press an d hold the powe r button for tw o seconds. You will then be asked so me questions before you ca n use your tablet. To start, tap t o select your language and country, then t ap Start . Fo llow the rest of the instructions as they are displayed.
11 Locking your tablet Locking your tablet If you will no t use your tablet for a while, briefly press the power button to lock access. This saves power an d en sures your tablet does not unintentiona lly use any services. Your tablet will lock automati cally if it is not used after a whil e.
12 Note: If you forget an unlock pattern, please refer to “Unlock pattern“ on page 56 . Using the touchscreen Your tablet uses a touchsc reen for se lecting items and en tering information. Use your finger to tap the screen. Tap : To uch the screen once to op en items and select options.
13 The Home screen Simply enter the text you wa nt to find. Tap the arrow or Enter key to search the Internet, or tap one of the suggestions, applications or files shown in the list. Voice search If voice search is available, tap th e microphone and speak your search request.
14 Acer Ring - quick launch Acer Ring allows yo u to quickly and eas ily access your favori te applications and bookmarks. It i ncorporates a nu mber of useful tools in a n easy-to-use interface. Tap the Ring icon at the bottom of the screen to display Acer Ring.
15 The Home screen The application menu The applicatio n menu displays applic ations available on your ta blet. Applications are displayed in al phabetic al order. If more applications are available, an ou tline of the se cond page wil l be shown on the sid e of the screen.
16 The applicatio n menu displays appl ications installed on your tablet. Two categories are available: All and My a pps . All displays all applications that are installed on your tablet; My apps d isplays appl ications that you ha ve installed f rom th e Android Market .
17 The Home screen Tap the status icons to view more status information and a summary of events. Tap the status area again to view more controls. While viewing a no tifica tion, tap the summary to see more information, if available. Some event summaries include co ntrols, such as media controls if music is playing.
18 Notification icons Personalizing the Home screen You may personalize your Home screen by adding or removing application shortcuts or widg ets, and by changing the wallpaper. Adding or removing s hortcuts or widgets To add shortcuts or widgets op en the Add to Home screen: tap the plus sign next to Apps in the top-right corner of the Home screen.
19 The Home screen Tap Widgets to see small applications that you ca n add to a Home screen. Widgets are small applicatio ns that di splay constantly-upd ated information or quick shortcuts to applicatio ns or special functions. Tap Ap plic ations to open a l ist of s hortcuts to applicatio ns and sett ings you ca n drag to a Home screen.
20 The onscreen keyboard When you tap a text box to enter te xt, an onscreen keyboard will appear. Simply tap on keys to enter text. Tap the ?123 button t o see numbers and spec ial characters, and then tap the More key to see more opti ons. Tap and hol d a key to select alternati ve characters (if available), such as letters with accents.
21 The onscreen keyboard Changing the keyboard To use a different keyboard type, tap the Keyboard status icon; this will open a menu listing the text input me t hods available on your tablet. Tap your preferred input method. Typically three op tions are available: two type s of Android Keyboard (keyboard and voice) and XT9 Text Input .
22 Editing text You can select an d edit text in cer tain applicat ions, such as text you have entered in a text field. Selected text can be cut or copied an d later pasted within the same applic ation, or to a different application. Note: Certain applications may not support text sele ction, or only suppor t it in certain areas.
23 Editing text If you previous ly copied (see belo w) text, a Paste button appears briefly above the cursor . Tap the button to past e the text. 3. Modify the text: Type, paste or delete text. 4. Tap Enter on the keyboard, or tap the Cl ose Keyboard button.
24 Connecting devices to your tablet Connecting to AC power See “Charging your t ablet” on page 9. Inserting a microSD card (optional) You may install a microSD card to ex pand your device's storage space. Note: Your tablet only su pports microSD cards that use the FAT or FAT32 file system.
25 Connecting a USB device to your ta blet This allows you to transfer your persona l data to or from your PC, using your PC’s file expl orer. Plug the micro USB connector to your tabl et, and plug the o ther end of the USB cable into a USB po rt on your PC.
26 Connecting a Bluetooth device Only A2DP stereo head sets (playback on ly, no microphon e) are supported. Please check for updates to the tablet 's software which may add support for additional Bluetooth devices. For Bluetooth settings, tap Apps > Settings > Wire less & ne tworks > Bluetooth settings .
27 Managing Wi-Fi connections Going online Managing Wi-Fi connections If you did not connect to a Wi-Fi network when you first star ted your tablet, or want to connect to a new netw ork, tap Apps > Settings > Wireless & networks > Wi-Fi settings to manage your co nn ection settings.
28 You may open multiple tabs . When a page is open, press the small tab with a plus sign. Simply tap one of the tabs ac ross the top of the screen to switch pages. New tab Pinch to zoom in or o ut of pages. Tap and hold an item on a page to open a contextu al menu.
29 Setting up the Email app lication Setting up the Email application The Email application enable s you to access emai l from most popular email providers. Most account s can be set up in two steps. Open th e applic ation menu and then tap Email to start set ting up your email access.
30 SocialJogger SocialJogger combines your social netw ork updates in on e location, allow ing you to quickly follow what your frien ds are doing across several platforms . From the application menu, tap Soci alJogger to laun ch the program. Select Sign in to enter your accoun t information.
31 Online applications Once you have selected an application, tap the DOWNLOAD button to download and i nstall the appl ication. You will be told wh ich services (contact information, wireless access, GPS, etc.) the application requires access in order to function correctly.
32 Using downloaded applications Once you’ve downloaded an d installed an ap plication, you may find it in the My apps or All sections o f the Application menu. Certain appli cations also pro vide widgets, or o nly provide a widg et (with no ap plication icon).
33 Multimedia playback Playing music and video Multimedia playback Your tablet comes suppli ed with a var iety of programs that you ca n use to enjoy multimedia content. Music Use Music to lis ten to music and other audio files that you download or copy from your comp uter.
34 Depending on your selectio n, your music library is displ ayed as a grid of album covers or a list of tracks. Note: You can return to the Home pa ge while playing music; a Music icon is d isplayed with the notifi cation icon s. Tap this icon to c ontrol playback.
35 Multimedia playback Drag the bar on left side for more viewing options. clear.fi photos Tap the photo album to view the thumbnails. Tap and hold an album or photo thumbnail to view the menu panel. You can view ph otos found on any o f the connected devices and save them.
36 Note: The Acer clear.fi video player only plays MP4 files. Pleas e check for updates to the tablet's software whic h may add support for other types of video.
37 Managing contacts Your tablet features an address book th at allows you to save contacts to the internal memory or your Google account. Tap Con tacts from the application menu to view your contacts.
38 You may now ed it the new contact entry. Editing a contact If you have opened an new o r existing contact you can enter information about the contact: Simply tap on a box and type the approp riate information. Click on the arrow next to the name entry to se e op tions, such as add ing a name prefi x or phonetic name.
39 Tap on an entry (such as an email addre ss) to open the appl ication linked to that type of ent ry. For example, tap an email address to open the Gmail application. To add or change i nformation, tap the pen cil icon. Tap Do ne to save changes, or Cancel to discard them.
40 Using the camera Your tablet features a 2- megapixel digital camera mo unted on the fr ont. This section will take you thro ug h all the steps in takin g photos and videos wit h your tablet. Note: It is recommended that you insert a microSD card into the microSD slot before using the camera.

43 Shooting a video Supported formats Viewing photos and videos After you have tak en your phot o or video, it is automatically s aved; normally to internal memory. After taking a photo or video, you can view it in the Gallery by tappin g the thumbnail in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
44 Reading an eBook or pdf You can use either LumiRead or Docs To Go to read pdf or similar files. However, LumiRead i s not included in all regions. To open a file in Docs To Go, first open the application, then select Local Files . A list will show compatible files; simply tap to open a file.
45 LumiRead Favorites / categories As you add books to your tablet, you may find it d ifficult to find the bo ok you need. You may either search for a specif ic title or auth or, add books to your Favorites , or choose only to display books fr om a certain category, to reduce the number of books displayed at one time.
46 See “Your Adobe ID” on page 49. Opening a book All books stored on your tablet may be seen on the main sc reen. If you have many books, swipe up to see them. Simply tap a book to o pen it. Rotate yo ur ta blet to the be st angle to read the book.
47 LumiRead Selecting and hi ghlighting text Quickly tap twice on a wo rd to select it , then tap a second word to select the section of text between the two words. Jumping to Contents, Boo kmarks or Highlights You may jump directly selected se ctions in a book; tap the settings icon, and sele ct the Content s icon.
48 Adding books to your tablet You may either add bo oks that you already own , or download new books directly to your tablet. Books you download (see “Sh opping” on page 48 ) will be automatically added to the bookshelves.
49 LumiRead Tap Boo kshelf to return to the main page; tap th e plus sign to ad d links to your favorite sites. Note: You must create a customer acco unt before purchasing items from a featured bookstore. Your Adobe ID Some books available for purchase ar e protected with Adobe DRM (Digital Rights Manageme nt).
50 Advanced settings Access Settings from the Application menu. Tap Apps , then Settings . Sound Adjust the volume of your tablet using the volume buttons on the side of the tablet. Alternatively, yo u can adjust your tablet sound setting s by tapping Apps > Settings > Sound .
51 Putting your tablet in Airplane mode Putting your tablet in Airplane mode You can enter Airp lane mode (als o known as flight mode) to turn off network and Bluetooth function s and use your ta blet during a flight. Ch eck with your airline to make sure th is is permitted onboard.
52 To connect to a device, tap the device in the list of a vailable devices. You may be asked to enter a PIN on both devices to establish the connection. Note: Only A2DP stereo headsets (pla yback only, no microphone) are supported. Please check for updates to the tablet's softwar e which may add support for additi onal Bluetooth devices.
53 Setting the date and time •I f Auto-sync is enabled, all changes ar e automatically transferred between your tablet and Internet accounts. Multiple Google accounts If you have mu ltiple Google accounts, su c h as separa te accounts for persona l and business cont acts, you can access and synchon ize them from the Acc ounts settings section.
54 Uninstalling an application You can remove programs installed on yo ur tablet to free up extra storage memory. Tap and hold a p rogram icon from the ap plication menu an d drag it into the Uninstall area in the top-ri ght corne r. Note: You cannot uninstall applications th at were pre-load ed on your tablet.
