7 SECTION 4: UNPACKING T O REMO VE UNIT F R OM CR A TE 1. Remove al l screws from the top o f the crat e. 2. To remov e ends, grasp top b oard on the end, and pull towards you in a downwa rd motio n. (A hamm er may be he lpful). 3. Set pa nel aside to avoid tire punctur es.
8 B A TTER Y IDENTIFICA TION Compare th e battery in y our lawn tract or (located under t he seat) wi th the il lustration above. T ype “ A ” batterie s are activated and are read y to use. Type “ B ” batteries m ust be filled w ith battery fl uid (acid) and ch arge d be fore t hey are pu t int o serv ice.

12 SECTION 6: CONTROLS IGNITION SWITCH The ig nition sw itch is l ocated on th e dashbo ard. Tur n the key to the START positio n to start the eng ine. When th e engine is running, leave the key i n the ON positio n. To stop the eng ine, turn the ke y to the OFF positio n.
13 P ARKING B RAKE The spe ed contr ol lev e r is used to set the p ark ing brake . T o set the par king bra ke , depress the clutc h- brake pedal. Mov e the speed con trol le ver out of the notc hes to th e parkin g br ak e po sit ion . Rel eas e the speed control lever and the c lutch-brake peda l.
14 GAS AND OIL FILL-UP Check the oil leve l and add if necessar y. Service the engi ne with gaso line as ins tructed in th e separate engine manual pa cked with your tractor. Re ad instructions ca refully. IMPORTANT: Your tractor is shippe d with oil; however you must check the oil leve l before operati ng.
15 1. Place s hift lever in NEUTRAL . 2. Restart e ngine. 3. Place s peed con trol lever in high sp eed posit ion. 4. Release c lutch-brak e pedal fu lly. 5. Depress clutch -brake ped al. 6. Place s peed con trol lever in desir ed position. 7. Plac e shift lev er in eith er FORWARD or REVERSE , and follow norma l operatin g procedu res.

18 BRAKE ADJUSTMENT (See Figure 20) The brake is loca ted by the right r ear wheel ins ide the frame. During no rm al operation of th is machine, the brake is subject to wear and wil l require pe riodic ex aminati on and adj ustment. WARN ING: Do not ha ve the eng ine running when you adju st the brake.

21 DECK BELT 1. Place th e lift lever in the engaged (all the way forward ) position. 2. Disconn ect the sprin g which i s attached to a bracke t on the transa xle, ins ide the righ t rear wheel.
