4 Introduction to your R oamEO GPS P et Location System The RoamE O GPS Pet L ocation Sy stem is made up of two compo- nents : a handheld GPS Receiver and a special GPS-enabled collar for your pet. Both components ar e r equir ed for a functional sy stem.
5 RoamE O Collar The RoamE O Collar uses GPS technology and a miniatur e radio that sends GPS coordinat es to the Receiver wher e they ar e displayed on the L CD scr een.
6 GPS Basics The Global P ositioning Sy stem (GP S) was launched in 19 95 by the United S tates Def ense Depar tment. T went y-f our satellite s orbit at 10, 900 nautical mile s above the Earth, passing overhead twice daily . A t least four of the se satellites ar e in view nearly anywher e on the Ear th at all times .
7 Star ting Out The RoamE O GPS Pet L ocation Sy stem is designed to be oper ational without any set-up or thir d par t y services. Y ou can begin using RoamEO immediat ely . T o begin using your RoamE O syst em: 1. Power on the Receiv er . 2. Pr ess the Power button on each Collar you would lik e to place in ser vice.
8 Screen Vie ws RoamEO is de signed with three oper ational screens to pr ovide information about the location of your pet and the stat us of the GPS: Basic T racking Screen RoamEO def aults to the Ba sic T racking Scr een when power ed up.
9 Basic T racking Screen The Basic T racking Scr een display s the location and movements of all active Collar s. By using the distance rings, you can e stimate your distance from your pet. Ref er to the Collar Stat us Bar to monitor the GPS and Radio status of each Collar .
10 GPS Status Screen The GPS S tatus Screen displa ys the status of the GPS sat ellites , as well as other critical data associat ed with their per formance. T his screen can be helpful to asse ss the number of satellite s your Receiver is using to gain its GP S data and the signal st r ength of each of these satellit es.
11 Understanding the RoamEO Operation Scr eens When initially power ed on, RoamEO defa ults to the Basic T racking Scr een. Ther e are thr ee ar eas of information on this scr een which ar e all continually updat ed to provide you with r eal time data that will help you use your RoamEO sy stem.
12 GPS R eceiver T oolbar The GPS Receiv er toolbar provide s information on the status of the GPS Receiver . E stimated accuracy of your curr ent position fr om a benchmark location. F or example, if Accur acy r eads 17 f eet, then your curr ent position is estimat ed to be within 17 feet of your act ual latitude and longit ude coordinat e s .
13 GPS Status Gr een wave s indicate a GPS lock. White wa ves indicat e the Receiver is unable to achieve a GP S fix in this location. Remaining ba t t ery life of the GPS Receiv er .
14 Collar Status Bar The status of all activ e collars is displayed in the Collar S tatus Bar . Each collar transmit s new GPS location data every three seconds, which is then updated on the scr een. Check this bar to insur e that your Collar is r eceiving GPS data, and to verify the radio r eception of your GPS Receiver .
15 T racking Screen Y our pet’ s location and movement s are displayed on the T racking Scr een and are contin ually updated. E ach is color coded to match it s corre sponding color on the Collar Status Bar . RoamEO can track up to thr ee Collar s at one time .
16 An indicate s a Collar has gone outside the scale you curr ently have selected f or your T racking Scr een. The location of the shows wher e the Collar lef t the scale of the screen and the dir ection it was heading at the time.
17 How to use the T racking Screens The T racking Scr eens are de signed to display the movement s of your pet in r elation to your position. When using the T racking Scr eens, here ar e some things to remember: 1. Y our location is alway s in the center of the scr een designated by the .
18 L CD Screen Options Po wer Saving Mode RoamEO is de signed with a Power Saving Mode to impr ove the battery life of the Receiver . When RoamEO enter s the P ower Saving Mode, the brightness of the display is lower ed to help sav e power .
19 Charging yo ur GPS Receiv er and Col lar F or all the benefits of GPS, unf or tunately it r equir es a f air amount of power to operat e. T o maintain comm unication with the GPS satellite sy stem, the GPS r eceiver must stay on at all time s.
20 Set ting up a GPS F ence The GPS F ence can be a valuable f eatur e to assist you in pr otecting your pet. However , it is not meant to be substit ute for h uman initiative and we do not r ecommend this as a pet containment sy stem.
21 5. Remember that both the Alarm and the GP S Fence must be activat ed in order to r eceive an a udible warning if your pet exits your perimeter . Y ou can use your GPS F ence without the Alarm if desir ed.
22 Building yo ur GPS Fence T o build your GPS F ence, you will need to set GPS fence post s that will be used to outline the perimeter of you de sired boundary . Af ter establishing the se fence post s, RoamEO will a utomatically ‘ draw’ in the f ence and store it in memory for futur e use.
23 Step 1 Pr ess the and the buttons on the GPS Receiver simultane- ously . This will set the GPS Receiv er into the Fence B uilding mode and the F ence Building screen will be displayed. Y ou ar e now ready t o begin establishing the f ence posts . See figur e 5.
Fence Step 3 W alk to your first f ence post. Y our movement s will be displayed on the scr een with the . Y ou can also gain an appreciation of your distances fr om the distance rings shown on your screen.
25 Step 4 Af ter e stablishing the last fence po st, pre ss and . Y our f ence will now be saved to memory . The gr een will indicat e that your f ence has been successfully complet ed and placed into memor y . See figure 9 . T o activat e your fence, pr ess at an y time.
26 Using yo ur GPS Fence Once you have built your GP S Fence, you may use it at any time . T o turn on your GPS F ence, pr ess . Y our f ence will be activated, and the in the GPS Receiver T oolbar will now be illuminated.
27 Using the GPS F ence from inside your home Y ou can us e the GPS F ence f eatur e from indoor s, as long as the GPS Receiver is making r adio contact with a Collar . T o use the GPS Fence from indoor s, it is r ecommended placing the GPS Receiver near a window on the side of the house closest to wher e you expect the Collar s to be.
28 Enrolling Collars t o yo ur GPS Receiv er In order f or RoamEO to oper ate, the Collar must be set up to be able to ‘talk’ to a Receiver . Each RoamEO Collar contains a unique ID which is used so that it only communicate s with the Receiver which has been progr ammed to r ecognize that ID.
29 Step 2 U sing the Zoom button to scroll up or down, select the Collar you wish to enr oll. If you wish to enroll the Collar that has been a utomatically selected, pr oceed to Step 3 . Step 3 Pr ess the button on the GPS Receiver . This will select the Collar you ha ve cho sen and place it in memor y .
