6 Ho w a Centr al Wa ter Filtr a tion System W or ks NORMAL OPERA TION During normal operation water enters the Central W ater Filtration System and flows through several fil- tration processes where tastes, odors and sediment* are reduced.
7 Installa tion R equir ements TOOLS NEEDED Assemble the required tools before starting inst allation. Read and follow instructions provided with any tools listed here.
8 Installa tion R equir ements AIR GAP REQUIREMENTS A drain is needed for Clean Rinse discharge water . A floor drain, close to the Central W ater Filtration System, is preferred. A laundry tub, standpipe, etc. are other drain options. Secure valve drain hose in place.
9 Plan the Installa tion INLET - OUTLET PLUMBING OPTIONS Always install either a single byp ass valve (provided) or , if desired, part s for a 3 valve bypass system (not included) can be purchased and assembled, as shown in Figure 6.
10 Installa tion TURN OFF W A TER SUPPL Y 1. Close the main water supply valve, near the well pump or water meter . 2. Open all faucets to drain water from the house pipes. NOTE: Be sure not to drain water from the water heater , as damage to the water heater ele- ments could result.
11 CONNECT INLET AND OUTLET PLUMB- ING Complete the inlet and outlet plumbing for the type of pipe as shown below . Soldered Copper 1. Thoroughly clean and apply solder flux to all joint s. 2. Make all solder connections. IMPORT ANT : Do not solder with plumbing attached to installation Adapters and single valve bypass.
12 Installa tion INST ALL V AL VE DRAIN HOSE 1. Measure, cut to needed length and connect the 3/8" drain line (provided) to the Central W ater Filtration System valve drain fitting. Use a hose clamp to hold the hose in place. NOTE: If codes require a rigid drain line see “V alve Drain requirements" section.
13 Star t Up Pr ocedur e IMPORT ANT : The filtration media in this Central W ater Filtration System contains a small number of p articles generated during manufacturing and shipping that are small enough to exit the system with water flow . It is normal for these particles to cause a temporary discoloration of the water coming out of the system.
