4 Automatic Garage Door Opener – For Residential Doors Only FEATURES 1. Open and Close Cycle Control: Allo ws garage door to be started and stopped by push button, transmitte r or wall station. The next impulse sends garage do or in opposite direction.
5 IMPORTANT PRE-ASSEMBLY CHECK If assembling a motor head unit from a factory sealed box skip this check. Every Power Head Unit is factory tested and shipped with the limit switch adjustment in the door CLOSED position.
6 Do not plug the power cord into electrical outle t until opener is fully installed and you are instructed to do so in this manual. Door springs, pulleys, cables and brackets are under ex treme tension and can cause severe injury or fatal injury.
7 The opener is fully packed in one carton. Unp ack and inspec t contents carefully for any possi ble shipping damage or missing parts. Do not attempt installation if any parts are damag ed or missing. NOTE: Depending on opener model, some parts listed will not be supplied if not necessary.
8 For Your reference, all hardware ha s been illustrated. During assembly and inst allation, please refer to this page to insure you are using the proper hard ware called for during each step.
9 W A R N I N G : DO NOT RUN OPENER UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO DO SO! Step One: Rail Assembly Pre-position parts for assembly. Bolt a splice bracket to the motor head assembly and bolt the intermediate rails to t he same splice bracket, using 5/16” x 1/2” carriage bolts and 5/1 6” lock washer nuts.
10 Step Four: Setting The Chain Pull the chain assembly to the front rail bracket. Insert the “U” bolt through the holes in the front rail bracket and fasten with two 5/16” lock washer nuts. Ensure the ch ain is on the sprocket of the Motor Head, and finger tighten the nuts equally.
11 Step 1: Attaching Motor Po wer Head Unit to Rail Before assembly, align sprocket/coupli ng cogs to match notches of driver gear. Rotate the Motor Spline to position Driv er Gear so that the nearest notch in Driver Gear is directly behind Motor Spline, as illustrated.
12 Step 3: Attach Unit to Front Wall Bracket Raise the front end of the opener and attach it to the front wall bracket, using the ¼” x 4” hex head bolt and the supplied ¼” plastic insert nut. Take care not to over tighten nut; tighten only until end of bolt is flush with out- side of nut.
13 Step 6: Mounting Door Bracket WARNING: Fiberglass, aluminum and steel doors must be reinforced to pre vent damage to the door. Check with your ga- rage door manufacturer for their recom- mendations.
14 Step 9: Installing Deluxe Wireless Wall Station (if included) WARNING: Install all wall contro ls out of the reach of children and in a location where the door can be seen before activating. Do not mount push buttons near or next to garage door. Locate a convenient place to mount wa ll station.
15 Step 11: Install Wireless Infrared Safety Sensors Wall Mounting Bracket (If Included) Select a mounting position 5 inches abo ve the floor to center line of wall bracket. The EMITTER and TRANSPONDER units must be mounted inside the door opening to minimize any interference by the sun; however, the sen sors must be mounted against the door track.
16 Step 14: Install Wired Infrared Safety Sensor Wall Mounting Brackets Use the following instructions if your opener is equipped with Wired Infrared Safety S ensors. If you just installed the Wireless Infrared Safety Sen - sors go to step 19. Select a mounting position 5 inches abo ve the floor to center line of wall bracket.
17 Step 16: Install Wiring for Wired Infrared Safety Sensor Identify which side of the garage door opening (if any) the sun is “likely” to shine on to. Since sunlight may affect infrared safety sensors , you should moun t the sending unit on the side of the door opening exposed to the sun.
18 Step 18: Mount Wired Infrared Safety Sensors Attach the sending and receiving units to the “U” brackets by inserting their tabs into their respective holes. Step 19: Connecting Electrical Power To reduce the risk of electrical shock, connect the po wer cord only to a properly grounded 3 prong, 120 v olt outlet .
19 Step 20: Wireless Wall Station Security Co de Change and Programming Note: The following steps describe the process to change the Wireless Wall Station security code and to pro gram the Wireless Wall Station to the open er. IMPORTANT: You MUST change the Wireless Wall Station security code prior to programming the dev ice to the power head unit.
20 Step 21: Alignment of the Wireless Infrared Safety Sensors Use the following instructions if your opener is eq uipped with Wireless Infrared Safety Sen- sors.
21 Step 22: Alignment of the Wired Infrared Safety Sensors Use the following instructions if your opener is eq uipped with Wired Infrared Safety Sensors. Otherwise proceed to step 23. IMPORTANT: This infrared beam sensor sends an invisible beam of light from the s ending unit to the receiver unit across from the pathway of the d oor.
22 Programming Transmitter to Power Head Unit Note: Do not press any button on the Transmitter until instruc ted. 1. Press the PROGRAM Switch button located on the garage doo r power head unit once.
23 Step 24: Connecting Cush ion Arm to Trolley Activate opener to bring tro lley to factory pre-set close limit (See illustration). Cushion arm assembly consist s of the door arm tube section and door arm ro d, which are packed separately. To assemble, screw the do or arm rod into the door arm tube in a clockwi se direction approximately ten turns.
24 Step 26: Connecting Door Arm to Door Door Mounted Bracket Visually align cushion arm con necting hole with middle hole of door bracket by rotating tube sect ion in appropriate direction. Release trolley (cushion arm attached ) with manual release cord and pull troll ey a few inches toward motor.
25 Step 28: Setting Door Opening Travel Do not use adjustments to compensate for a po orly balanced door. This will interfere w ith the proper operation of the trav el adjustments and may damage door.
26 Step 30: Programming Wireless Keyless Entry (If Included) NOTE: To facilitate installation, program the Keyless Entry station to the opener before mounting to wall. WARNING: During programming the garage door may operate. Keep people and obj ects clear of the moving door to prevent door da mage or possible personal injury.
27 Adjustment # 1 Opening and Closing Force This garage door opene r is built with a safety system that a llows the door to reverse in the close direction an d stop in the open direction. This must be adju sted so your opener does not us e excessive f orce in the down direction or react to the weight of the door during upwa rd travel.
28 Adjustment # 2 Contact Obstruction Sensing (Closing Direction) The opener is designed to automatically reverse the d oor during closing travel whenever it com es in contact with an object up to the last 1 inch of travel above the floor. An object on the floor with a height less than 1” will cause the door to stop.
29 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS WARNING: To reduce the risk of severe injury or death: Before you proceed, please thoroughly read the safety ru les on page 2 and the f ollowing operating instructions. Operate only when opener is properly adjusted a nd the door is visible and unobstructed.
30 HOW TO ACTIVATE THE OPENER WARNING: Never let children operate or play with door controls. Keep remote control away from chil- dren. Use any of the following devices: 1. The Remote Control Transmitter; momentary push of the button and the door will start to move.
31 HOW TO OPERATE THE WIRELESS WALL STATION (If Included) WARNING: Never let children operate or play with door controls. Keep remote control away from children. The Wireless Wall Station Provides the Following Fe atures: 1. Momentarily pressing the UP/DO W N button activates the door.
32 HOW TO OPERATE THE DOOR MANUALLY – Emergency Release Disconnect WARNING: The door should be fully closed if possible, weak or broken springs could allow an open door to fall rapidly. Property damage or serious pers onal injury could result. Do not use the manual re- lease knob to pull the door open or closed.
33 MAINTENANCE OF YOUR OPENER SYSTEM Test door opener monthly. The garage door MUS T reverse on contact with a 1 inch high solid test ob- ject on the floor. If adjusting either the force o r the limit of travel, retest the door opener. Failure to ad- just the opener properly may cause severe injury of death.
34 TROUBLE SHOOTING SECTION SYMPTOM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION Opener won’t work from wall button or radio control. No power to opener. Short circuit in wires to opener o r wall button. Motor Protector trips open due to ex- cessive use. Check cord to outlet , wall switch and circuit breaker.
