2 PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS SAFETY 1. Another person should be within range of your voice or close enough to come to your aid when you work near a lead-acid batter y . 2. Fresh water and soap should be nearby in case batter y acid contacts skin, cloth- ing, or eyes.
3 CHARGER LOCA TION 1. Locate charger as far away from batter y as cables permit. 2. NEVER place charger directly above batter y being charged; gases from batter y will corrode and damage charger . 3. NEVER allow batter y acid to drip on charger when reading specific gravity or fill- ing batter y .

NOTE: AL W A YS disconnect the AC power cord from the AC power outlet before con- necting (or disconnecting) the charger to (or from) the batter y . CONN E CTING THE CHARGER WITH TERMINAL RINGS The charger’ s output leads have crimped, color-coded ring terminals (Figure 4) (RED-POSITIVE and BLACK- NEGA TIVE).
7 CONNECTING THE CHARGER WITH THE DC ACCESSOR Y PLUG The charger’ s output leads also contain a DC acces- sor y plug (Figure 5). 1. Plug DC plug into vehicle’ s DC accessor y outlet. 2. Plug the AC plug of the charger into any stan- dard 110/120 volt AC wall outlet.
