3 Your appliance 15 3.3 How induction hobs function Induction hobs work very d ifferently from conventional hobs or h ot plates. The induction coils under the glass ceramic plate produce a rapidly changing magnetic field which dir ectly heats up the magnetic base of the cookware.
3 Your appliance 16 3.4 Pan detection Each cooking zone is equi pped with pan dete ction. This detects: – suitable induction co mpatible cookware with a magnetic base – the magnetic base of the cookwa re and switches on the outer cooking ring of the dual ring cooking zone.
3 Your appliance 17 Energy-e fficient co oking For maximum energy effi ciency and even heat distr ibution note the following: • The base of the cookware must be clean, dry a nd smooth. • The diameter of the base of the cookware shoul d as far as possible co rre- spond to the diameter of the cooking zone.
18 4 Operating the appliance The individual cookin g zones are all op erated in the same way. When the appliance is switched off, all the displays are dark (stand-by mode), except for the residual heat indicator shou ld any cooking zone still be hot. 4.
4 Operating the appliance 19 4.4 Switching a cooking zone off ➤ Press on the slider. – If no other entry is made and none of the other cooking zones ar e in use, the appliance switches off automatical ly after 10 seconds.
4 Operating the appliance 20 Power management GK36TIPS, GK36TIPSC, GK36TIPSF PowerPlus cannot be used with all the cooking zones at the same time. When PowerPlus is activated, the other c ooking zones work at reduce d power.
4 Operating the appliance 21 GK46TIPS, GK46TIPSC, GK46TIPSF, GK46TIAS, GK46TIASC, GK46TI ASF, GK46TIASU PowerPlus cannot be used with bo th cooking zones of any group ( A or B ) at the same time. If PowerPlus is activa ted with both cooki ng zones of any group, then the power output is re duced for the cooking zone that was selected first.
4 Operating the appliance 22 GK46TIABS, GK46TIABSC, GK46TIABSF, GK46TIABSU PowerPlus cannot be used with bo th cooking zones of any group ( A or B ) at the same time. If PowerPlus is activate d with both cooking zones of a group, then the power output is red uced for the cooking zone that was selected first.
4 Operating the appliance 23 4.7 Automatic boost All the cooking zones are equipped wi th a selecta ble automatic boost. With this function, a cooking zone works at power level 9 for a certain length of time (see table). Then it automatically goes back to the power le vel set.
4 Operating the appliance 24 4.8 Operating time With the operating time function, a cooking zone swi tches off au tomatically after a set time (between 1–99 minutes). Setting the operating t ime ➤ Select the required cooking zone. ➤ Press the touch button.
4 Operating the appliance 25 End of the operating time When the operating time i s up – the relevant cooking zone switche s off – an acoustic signal is emitted – and the power leve l flash. ➤ Press any touch button to switc h off t he acoustic signal and the displays.
4 Operating the appliance 26 4.9 Timer The timer functions like an egg timer (1–99 minute s). It can be used at any time and independently of a ll other functions. Setting the timer ➤ Switch the appliance on. ➤ Press the touch button 2×. – flashes in the display.
4 Operating the appliance 27 4.10 Childproof lock The childproof lock is to prevent the a ppliance from being accidentally switched on. Switching th e childproof l ock on ➤ Switch the appliance on. Ensure all cooking zones are switched off. ➤ Press the and touch buttons at the same tim e.
4 Operating the appliance 28 4.11 Restore function If the appliance h as been inadvertently switched off, the settings ca n be restore d within 6 secon ds. ➤ Switch the appliance on. – The indicator light at the touch button flashes. ➤ Press the touch button.
4 Operating the appliance 29 4.13 Wipe protection This function prevents inadvertently changing the power level, e.g. when wiping the control panel with a cloth.

32 6 Care and maintenance 6.1 Cleaning Always clean the hob after use. This prevents food resid ues from burning on. Dried-on or burned-on food residue is harder to clean off. Use of improper cleaning te chniques can result in damage to the marki ngs or surface.
