4 i. Never store the machine or fuel containe r inside where th ere is an open flame, spar k, or pilot light (e.g. furn ace, water heater, space heater , clothes dryer, et c.) j. To reduce a fire hazard, keep machine free of grass, le aves, or ot her debris build-up.
5 SAFETY LABELS FOUND ON YOUR UNIT SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR CHIPPER SHREDDER IMPORT ANT : This unit is shipped without gaso line or oil in the engine. Be cer tain to service engine with gasoline and oil as instructed in the Briggs & Stratton Owner/ Operator man ual packed with your unit.
6 Attaching The Debris Collection Bag • To attach the bag, place the opening of the bag completely over the ch ute deflector. • Position the bag so that the wing kno bs which secure the chute deflecto r to the impeller housing are completely covered.
7 Figure 4 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR CHIPPER SHREDDER WARNING: The operation of any chipper shredder can result in foreign objects being thrown. Always wear the safety glass es provided with this unit or eye shield s before chipping or shreddin g and while performing any adjustme nts or repairs.
8 • Grasp the starte r handle and pull the rope out slowly until resistance is felt. When it becomes slightly harder to pull the rope, slowly a llow the rope to recoil. Then pull rope with a r apid, continuous, full arm st roke. Keep a firm grip on starter handle.
9 • Apply intermittent pressure (force, in short pulses) while feeding larger (2- 3-inch diam eter) branches into the chipper chute, to avoid bogging or stalling the engine . IMPORT ANT : Never fee d branches with a dia meter greater than thre e (3) inches into the chipper chute.
10 Chute Deflecto r: Lubricate the pivot points on the chute deflector wit h light oil once a season. Engine: Refer to the Briggs & Stratton Ow ner/Oper ator manual packed with your unit for lubr ication instructions. Maintenance Engine Refer to the Mainte nance section of the Briggs & Stratton Owner/Opera tor manual packed with your unit.
11 Figure 9 NOTE: Use a 3/16” hex key (Allen) wrench on t he outside of the blade an d a 1/2” box (or socket) wrench on the inside of the impeller. See Figure 9. Hold the Allen wrench stationary and rot ate the box (or socket) wrench to loosen the nut.
