2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Manu al is an important part of your new snow throw er. It will help you to assemble, prepare and maintain the unit for best performance.

5 SECTION 2: SETTING UP YOUR SNOW THROWER NOTE: The snow throwe r is shipped with oil and WITHOUT GASOLINE. After assembly , refer to separate engine manual for proper fuel an d engine oil recommendations. NOTE: This Operator’s Manual covers several models, handle panels, lights and ch ute cranks are some features tha t may vary by model.
6 3. One end o f each chute ke eper is already at tached to the chute fla nge. Pivot the free end of the chute keeper to align it with the ch ute flange and push it till it snaps into posit ion. See Figure 4. Repeat with remaining chut e keepers. Figure 4 For Models with 4 Wa y Chute Control Box 1.
7 Auger Control Test 1. To check the adjus tment of the auger control, push forward the left han d control until the rubber bumper is compressed. There should be slack in the cable. 2. Release th e control. The cable should be straig ht. Make certain you can depress the auger cont rol grip against the left handle completely.
8 1. Adjust skid sh oes by lo osening th e four hex nuts (two on each side) an d ca rriage bolts. Move skid shoes to desired position. 2. Make certa in the entire bot tom surface of skid shoe is against the ground to avoid un even wear on the skid shoes.
9 IMPORT ANT : Always release the drive control before changing speeds. Auger Control The auger cont rol is located on the left handle. Squeeze the aug er control to engage the augers. Release to stop the snow throwin g action. T he drive co ntrol must also be released in order to sto p the auger.

12 • If for some re ason, you have to operate the snow thrower on gr avel, keep the skid shoe in the highe st position for maxim um clearance between ground and shave plate.
13 Figure 14 Check V -Belts Follow instructions below to check the cond ition of the drive belts every 50 hours of oper ation. 1. Remove the plastic be lt cover on the front of the engine by removing two self-ta pping screws. 2. Visually inspect for frayed, cra cked, or excessively worn out belts.
14 Shave Plate and Skid Shoes The shave plate and skid shoe s on the bottom of the snow throwe r are subje ct to wear. Check the se periodically and replace as nece ssary. Replacing Skid Shoe 1. Remove four carriage bolts an d hex nuts which attach two skid shoes to th e s no w t hr ow er on t wo sides.
15 9. Re-install frame cover and flip the snow thrower back to the o perating position. 10. W rap auger be lt around the engin e pulley. 11. Re-insta ll belt co ver with se lf-tapping s crews removed be fore. Drive Belt 3. * Push idler counter-clock wise and insert a Philips head screwdrive r in the hole on t he idler as shown in Figure 20.
16 . Figure 23 Figure 24 9. Reassemble new frictio n wheel rubber to the friction wheel assembly, tighte ning the four screws in rotation and wit h equal force. See Figure 24. IMPORT ANT : Assemble the rubb er on the friction whee l equally for proper functioning.
17 See Figure 26C. 4. Thread th e ferrule up or down the shift ro d as necessary until the fe rrule lines up with the upper hole in the shift lever . See Figure 26B. 5. Insert fer rule into th e upper h ole in shift le ver as shown in Figure 26B. 6. Reinstall the hairpin clip.

19 SECTION 8 : TWO YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY For TWO YEARS from the date of re tail purchase within Canada, MTD PR ODUCTS LIMITE D will, at its option, repair or replace, fo r the original purchaser, free of charge, any part or parts found to be defective in material or workmanship .
