8 Features of your new TV The following are just a fe w of the many exciting features of your new T oshiba widescreen, integrated HD, LCD TV : Integrated digital tuning (8VSB A TSC and QAM) eliminates the need for a separate digital con verter set-top box (in most cases).

12 Over view of cable types Cables can be purchased from most stores that sell audio/ video devices. Before purchasing an y cables, be sure of connector types required by your devices and the length of each cable.
Chapter 2: Connecting your TV 13 Connecting a VCR and antenna or Cable TV (no Cable box) From Cable TV or antenna Y ou will need: coaxial cables standard A/V cables For better picture performance, if your VCR has S-video, use an S-video cable (plus the audio cables) instead of the standard video cable.
Chapter 2: Connecting your TV 14 Connecting a VCR with S-video and a cable box An S-video connection will provide better picture performance than a standard (composite) video cable. Y ou will need: coaxial cables S-video cable Do not connect both types of video cable to VIDEO 1 at the same time or the picture performance will be unacceptable.
Chapter 2: Connecting your TV 15 Connecting a DVD player with ColorStream ® (component video), a VCR, and a satellite receiver Y our TV has two sets of ColorStream ® (component video) inputs.
Chapter 2: Connecting your TV 16 Connecting a camcorder Y ou will need: standard A/V cables For better picture performance, if your camcorder has S-video, connect an S-video cable (plus the audio cables) to VIDEO 1 on the TV back instead of the VIDEO 2 on the TV side panel.
Chapter 2: Connecting your TV 17 Connecting an HDMI™ or DVI device to the HDMI input The HDMI input on your TV recei ves digital audio and uncompressed digital video from an HDMI source device, or uncompressed digital video from a D VI (Digital V isual Interface) source de vice.

Chapter 2: Connecting your TV 19 Connecting a digital audio system The TV’ s DIGITAL AUDIO OUT terminal outputs a Dolby ® * Digital or 2-channel down-mix ed PCM (pulse-code modulation) signal for use with an external Dolby ® Digital decoder or other external audio system with optical audio input.

T o program your TV remote control to operate a non-T oshiba device (or a T oshiba device that it is not preprogrammed to operate), follow the steps belo w .
Chapter 3: Using the remote control 26 Remote control codes In some cases you may not be able to operate your device with the TV remote control. Y our other device may use a code that is not recognized by the TV remote control. If this happens, use the device’ s remote control.

T o open the Installation menu (illustrated below), press on the remote control or TV control panel, open the Setup menu, select Installation , and press .
30 Selecting the menu language Y ou can choose from three different languages (English, French and Spanish) for the on-screen display of menus and messages. T o select the menu language: Press and open the Preferences menu. Highlight Menu Language and press X .
Chapter 5: Setting up your TV 31 Programming channels into the TV’ s channel memor y When you press or on the remote control or TV control panel, your TV will stop only on the channels you programmed into the TV’ s channel memory . Follo w the steps below to program channels into the TV’ s channel memory .
Chapter 5: Setting up your TV 32 T o manually add digital subchannels on a ph ysical channel: Use the Channel Numbers and the Dash ( ) on the remote control to enter the channel number (for example, 56–1). If the channel is found, the number will be added to the list and the box will be checked.

Chapter 5: Setting up your TV 34 Viewing the digital signal meter Y ou can view the digital signal meter in the ANT/CABLE digital TV input source only . T o view the digital signal meter: Press and open the Setup menu. Highlight Installation and press .
35 Selecting the video input source to view T o select the video input sour ce to view: Press on the remote control or TV control panel. And then either: a) Press 0–8; or b) Repeatedly press ST on the remote control and then press to change the input; or c) Repeatedly press on the remote control or TV control panel to change the input.

If a particular input is not used, you can select Hide as the label, which will cause that input to be “grayed out” in the Input Selection screen and skipped ov er when you press on the remote control.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 37 T o set up the Channel Br owser™: From the Preferences menu, highlight Channel Browser Setup and press . Press S to highlight Navigation , and then press W or X to select either Browse Mode or Select Mode .
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 38 Adding and clearing channels and inputs in the History List Adding channels and inputs to the History List: As a channel or input is tuned, the Channel Browser™ adds it to the History List and displays it on the “right side” of the Channel Bro wser™.

Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 40 Picture Size Natural Some program formats will display with sidebars and/or bars at the top and bottom. TheaterWide 1 (for 4:3 format programs) The center of the picture remains close to its original proportion, but the left and right edges are stretched wider to fill the screen.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 41 Scrolling the TheaterWide ® picture (TheaterWide 2 and 3 only) Y ou can set separate scroll settings for the TheaterW ide 2 and TheaterW ide 3 modes for each input. T o set the scr oll settings: Press and open the Video menu.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 42 Adjusting the picture Selecting the picture mode Y ou can select your desired picture settings from four different modes, as described below .
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 43 Using the closed caption mode Base closed captions The closed caption mode has two options: Captions—An on-screen display of the dialogue, narration, and sound ef fects of TV programs and videos that are closed captioned (usually marked “CC” in program guides).
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 44 Adjusting the audio Muting the sound Press on the remote control to partially reduce (1/2 MUTE) or turn off (MUTE) the sound.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 45 Adjusting the audio quality Y ou can adjust the audio quality by adjusting the bass, treble, and balance. T o adjust the audio quality: Press and open the Audio menu. Highlight Audio Settings and press . Press T or S to highlight the item you want to adjust ( Bass , T reble , or Balance ).
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 46 Using the Locks menu The Locks menu includes the Enable Rating Blocking, Edit Rating Limits, Channels Block, Input Lock, Control Panel Lock, and New PIN Code features. Y ou can use these features after entering the correct PIN code.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 47 Downloading an additional rating system for blocking TV programs and movies In the future, an additional rating system may become av ailable for use in selectively blocking programs. Note: The currently tuned station must be receiving a digital signal before an additional rating system can be downloaded.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 48 Blocking channels W ith the Channels Block feature, you can block specific channels. Y ou will not be able to tune blocked channels unless you unlock them. T o block channels: Press and highlight the Locks menu icon.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 49 Using the GameT imer ® Y ou can use the GameTimer to set a time limit for playing a video game (30–120 minutes). When the GameT imer expires, the TV enters Input Lock mode and locks out the input source for the video game device.
Chapter 6: Using the TV’ s features 50 Setting the PC Audio This function allows you to output or mute the sound from your PC when connecting using the PC IN terminal and an analog RGB cable. ( page 20) T o set the PC A udio: Press and open the Audio menu.

52 Using the advanced picture settings features Using dynamic contrast When dynamic contrast is set to On , the TV will detect changes in the picture quality that af fect the appearance of your contrast settings and then automatically adjust the video.
Chapter 7: Using the TV’ s advanced features 53 Using CableClear ® digital noise reduction The CableClear ® digital noise reduction feature allows you to reduce visible interference in your TV picture. This may be useful when receiving a broadcast with a weak signal (especially a Cable channel) or playing a noisy video cassette or disc.

55 General troubleshooting Before calling a service technician, please check this chapter for a possible cause of the problem and some solutions you can try . Black box on-screen The closed caption feature is set to one of the T ext modes ( T1 , T2 , T3 , or T4 ).
