11 I/O connections Note: Before y ou connect other appliances: • To avoid potentially damaging your TV, make sure all items are switched off and disconnected from the ma ins power when you make the connections.
12 Using the Auto Brightness Sensor When the Auto Brightness S ensor f eature is set to On , the TV will automatically optimise the backlighting le vels to suit ambient light conditions. 1 Press MENU SETUP or DIGIT AL MENU to display the Main Men u screen.
13 Auto setup Y our TV has an automatic installation rout ine which makes installation easy . When you turn on the T V f or the first time, the automatic installation routine is activat ed.
14 Auto setup (continued) Note: • The Auto Tuning process will only start by itself the first time you turn on the TV/DVD. To enable Auto Tuning in a later time, see page 17. 5 Press to select Auto T uni ng , and then press ENTER/CH LIST . A message prompt will appear with option to connect aerial to TV .
15 Quick guide for menu operation Prep arations: • Turn on the TV with the button on its left side.The power indicator will light gre en. To place the TV in standby mode, press on the remote control. Power indicator will change from green to red. To turn on the TV from standby mode, press on the remote control again.
16 Selecting the video input source Note: • If no button is pressed after approximately 5 seconds, the Source Selection menu screen disappears. Selecting the video input sourc e 1 Press INPUT to vie w a signal from the device connected to y our TV , such as a VCR or D VD player .
17 Automatic st ation presetting with the built-in tuner Automatic st ation presetting with the built -in tuner P erf orm this feature to search f or and store new analogue and digital TV programmes after the Automatic Installation (see page 13). Preparation: Make sure y our antenna is connected to the aer ial input (see page 11).
18 Changing the order of stored channels Note: • When changing the order of channels, it is best to start with Ch1. Changing the order of stored chan nels The Automatic station presetting stores channels in a specific order . Howe ver , this order can be changed if you wish.
19 Manual TV st ation presetting The Auto T uning process stores all av ailable stations in the reception area. Howe ver , so me stations w ith weak or poor reception may not be detected.
20 Basic operation Note: • If the built-in tuner does not receive anything (e.g. if no antenna is connected) during TV operation, the TV will change to standby mode after approx. 15 minutes. •P r e s s TV/RADIO to switch between the three service categories: TV, Radio, and Data.
21 Basic operation (continued) Note: • In the Basic Service Information , the name of channels and services appears in full not in abbreviation. • Subtitles are displayed on the channel banner , but some broadcasts may not provide this service.
22 T eletext A teletext service offers a range of te xt-based information, typi cally including news stories, spor t ar ticles, weather forecast s, and TV schedules. Inf or mation is sent page by page. The TV can store up to 256 pages, b ut they can only be accessed once the y hav e been stored.
23 S tereo reception with the built-in analogue tuner The TV’ s built-in tuner can detect and rece ive NICAM stereo broadcasts automatically . Note: Bad reception can cause disturbance to stereo sound. In some cases, NICAM stereo sound may not be received correctly.
24 Picture format The broadcaster may tr ansmit a widescree n signaling (WSS) signal which can deter mine the correct height/width of pictures and hav e it set automatically when the settin g Auto is selected. If you w ant to change this setting, you can select from the formats listed below .
25 A V colour adjustment Use the A V Colour menu option to adjust the picture colour settings in A V mode. These settings do not apply when the TV is in any other mode. Note: • DVD players that play NTSC DVDs (i.e. multi- region/region code-free) can produce different signals based on the player model.

28 Using REGZA-LINK ® This is a new f eature that us es CEC technology and allows you to control T oshiba REGZA-LINK ® compatible de vices from the TV remote via HDMI connection (see page 75). When the Enable REGZA-LINK in the REGZA-LINK Se tup menu (see page 31) is set to On , the follo wing REGZA-LINK ® functions will be enabled.

Audio Receiv er) is connected to the HDMI input, you can select another REGZA-LINK ® device that is connected to the master HDMI device using INPUT on the remote control or INPUT/ENTER on the TV control panel.
31 Using REGZA-LINK ® (continued) Note: • When you turn on a REGZA-LINK ® compatible audio receiver, change its input source, or adjust the sound volume, the sound will be output from the audio receiver’s speakers even if TV Speakers has been selected.

38 Using the Media Player (continued) Note: • The sleep timer setting in the Media Player Quick Menu or TV Setup Menu will override the previous setting of each other. • If Enable REGZ A-LINK in the REGZA-LI NK Setup menu is set to Off or no amplifier is detected, the Speaker item will be disabled.

40 Password setup (Parent al lock) (DTV mode only) Note: • There are 15 age-based ratings, ranging from “4” (years old) to “18” (years old), “None” and “Block All”.

42 Sof tware upgrade (DTV mode only) Note: • Do not disconnect the AC cord when the software upgrade is in progress, as this may cause the upgrade to f ail. At this time you cannot use an y of the buttons . • When the TV searches for a software upgrade signal, the message “Please wait.
43 Common interface (DTV mode only) Common Interface Y ou can access the Common Interface module inf or mation from this menu option. Preparations: Inser t CAM into the D VB Common Interf ace (C.I.) slot on the side of the TV (see page 8). 1 Press MENU SETUP or DIGIT AL MENU t o display the Main Menu screen.
44 Multi audio (DTV mode only) Multi audio The Multi audio menu enables y ou to choose your pref erred audio mode and D VB (Digital Video Broadcasting) subtitle language s available f o r the curr ent broadcasting programmes. 1 Press AUDIO SELECT to display the Multi audio menu.
45 DVB-Subtitle/Using the Digit al Service (DTV mode only) DVB-Subtitle D VB-Subtitle is a feature support ed by D VB (Digital Video Broadcasting) applications. It provides on-screen te xt display in par allel wi th the corresponding a udio ser vices, and can be enabled or disabled at an y time.
46 EPG (Electronic Program Guide) (DTV mode only) The Guide menu shows a list of a vailab le programmes f or the next eight da ys only , including toda y . Howe ver , it will show “No Event Name” f or programmes which are more than eight da ys ahead, or f or programmes within the eight days when no programme inf ormation is availab le.
47 EPG T imer (DTV mode only) Y ou can cho ose whether or not to switch on your TV screen when a timer ev ent begins (see page 27: Rec Screen Status (LCD P ower on/off)). This is so that if y ou are using the timer to make a recording from your VCR or other device , the TV screen wil l not turn on un less you want it to .
48 Disc D VD discs must be Region 2 or Region ALL type to play on this TV/D VD . If region numbers, which stand for their pla yab le area, are printed on your D VD and you do not find or , disc playbac k will not be allowed by the pla yer . (In this case, the TV/D VD will display a message on-screen).
49 Basic playback This section shows you ho w to play a disc. Note: • When a disc is inserted when the TV is not in DVD mode, the TV will automatically switch to DVD mode.

51 Advanced playback The TV suppor ts sev eral playbac k modes that allow you to pla y discs at various speeds. Playing in fast r everse or fast forwa rd direction (DVD/VCD/Audio CD) 1 Press REV / FF dur ing playback. • REV : Fast reverse playback • FF : Fast forw ard playback Each time you press REV / FF , the pla yback speed changes.
52 Zoom function/Scene navigation Using the Zoom function (DVD/VCD) Y ou can change the viewing scale of a picture by using the Zoom function. Once the image has been rescaled, use the arrow buttons / to pan the image. 1 Press CH RTN ZOOM during playback.
53 Scene bookmark Note: • Bookmark function is not applicable to JPEG CD/ DivX ® CD. Bookmarking a sc en e (DVD/VCD/Audio CD) Scene bookmarks refer to specific points in the playbac k range that hav e been mar ked f or later access. Y ou can create up to three markers per disc.
54 Repeat playback/A-B repeat playback Enabling repeat playback (DVD/VCD) Y ou can choose to repeat D VD playback b y titl e or chapter . For VCDs , you can repeat a single track or the entire disc. 1 Press PLA Y MO DE during playback or stop mode . 2 DVD Press ENTER/CH LIST repeatedly to select a repeat mode.
55 Scene angle/T itle selection/DVD menu Changing the scene angle (DVD) When play ing back a D VD recorded with mult i-angle scenes, you can select the scene angle that you pref er . 1 Press ANGLE during playback. The current angle will appear. 2 Press ANGLE repeatedly until the preferred scene angle is display ed.
56 Sound track language/Audio channel/Subtitle Selecting a sound track language (DVD) Y ou can select the soundtrack language when you pla y a multilingual D VD . During playbac k, press AUDIO SELECT repeatedly until the preferred language is selected.
57 Playback information/VCD playback control (PBC) Viewing the playback information (DVD/VCD) Y ou can view the playbac k status and other disc information. Press to display the status of the disc during pla yback. T o close the display panel, press again.
58 MP3/JPEG/DivX ® and Audio CD operation This TV can play MP3/JPEG/DivX ® files recorded on CD-R and CD-R W discs. T o create an MP3/JPEG/DivX ® disc, y ou need a Windows PC with a CD-RW drive and f ile encoding software (not supplied).
59 About the file browser/Audio file playback About the file browser File icons Music file (MP3 or audio CD track) Picture file (JPEG) Movie file (DivX ® video) If a CD contains a mixture of MP3, JPEG, and DivX ® files, and PLA Y is pressed without selecting a file, pla yback starts automatic ally f rom the first file in the list.
60 Playing an audio file 1 Load an audio CD in the disc slot. The file browser appears on-screen, and the first audio file in the list plays automatically . 2 Press to select another audio file for pla yback. 3 Press ENTER/C H LIST or PLA Y to start playback.
61 JPEG file operation Note: • The Jump and A-B Repeat modes are not available when viewing JPEG images. • When an image exceeds 5760 x 3840 pixels, the image display can ap pear cropped. This applies when viewing the image in the Preview panel of the file browser, or when in the thumbnail, full-screen, or slide show modes.
62 DivX ® and DivX ® VOD operation Note: • Depending on the recording conditions of DivX ® file, you may not be able to use the Fast Reverse, Fast Forward playback, and Jump functions (see pages 51- 52). DivX ® playbac k 1 Load a disc containing DivX ® files in the disc slot.
63 MP3/JPEG/DivX ® and Audio CD playback modes Note: • These playback modes are only applicable during the current session. Once you eject the disc or turn off the TV, these modes will be disabled. • For audio CD, the A-B Repeat function can also be used (see page 54).

65 Programme playback/Random playback The TV enables you to arr ange the playbac k order of tracks and files on the disc , and it can also select tracks and files at random and pla yback them.

72 T emporary cancel the rating level by DVD disc 1 Load a D VD disc. 2 If the D VD disc has been designed to temporarily c ancel the rating lev el, the screen which fo llows the Reading screen will change, depending on which disc is pla yed. If you select Ye s and press ENTER/CH LI ST , the passw ord input screen will then appear.
73 PC connection As PCs are sometimes supplied with a “conv entional” CRT monito r , you ma y need to adjust the display settings of y our PC’ s graphic card; otherwise the pictures ma y not appear correctly .
74 Connecting an HDMI or DVI device to the HDMI input The HDMI input on your TV receiv es digital audio and un compressed video fro m an HDMI-equi pped device , or uncompressed digital video from a D VI-eq uipped (Dig ital Visual Interface) de vice.
75 REGZA-LINK ® connection Y ou can control the basic functions of connected audio/video devices using the TV’ s remote control if you connect a REGZA- LINK ® compatible audio receiver or pla yback de vice. F or an explanation of setup and operations, see pages 28-31.
76 Connecting TV to other equipment 1 Connecting aerials and other devices to your TV Connect the TV’ s coaxial cable directly to the aerial input jack at the bac k of the TV . Caution: Befo re connecting: • Make sure to disconnect the appliance from the power supply in order to avoid any potential damage from occurring.
77 Connecting TV to other equipment (continued) 3 Connecting a DVD player D VD play er can be connected to the TV either by a SCAR T cable or a standard audio cabl e along with a component video cable (see 5 on this page). In this case, a SCAR T cable is required f or the connection.
