Introduction 13 Inserting batteries Aim the remote contro l at the remote sensor and press the control buttons to operate. Make sure th e remote control is within approximately five meters and 30° an gle (on either side) of the remote sensor. Caution: Never throw batteries into a fire.
Connections 14 Connect the 75 cable from the comb ination VHF/ UHF antenna to the antenn a jack on the back of the TV/DVD. If your combination VHF/UHF antenna has a 300 twin-lead wire, use the 300-75 matching transformer (not supplied).
Connections 15 Cable TV connections This TV/DVD has an extended tuning range and can tune most cable channels without using a cable TV converter box. Some cable companies offer “premium pay channels” in which the signal is scrambled.
Connections 16 Optional equipment connections You can enjoy VCR, camcorder or TV games with connection to an external input. Important: Read the optional equipment’s owner's manual for re lated connection instructions and reminders before connecting the device to your TV/DVD.
Connections 17 You can use your TV as a display device for many vide o game consoles. Hook-up instructions fo r game consoles vary so you need to consult your devi ce’s user manual for appli cable instructi ons. This section shows an AUDI O/VIDEO IN connection.
Connections 18 If you connect a device with an S-Video cable to the TV’s S-VIDEO IN ja ck, you must also co nnect the audio ca bles to the AUDIO IN jacks as shown below. The S-Video cable only carri es the video signal. The audio sig nal is separated.
Connections 19 Your TV/DVD supports Colo rStream ® (component vi deo) connection. When using a component vi deo cable, you must also connect the audio cabl es to the COLORSTREAM HD AUDIO IN jacks as shown below. Select “ColorSt ream HD” by pressing INPUT repeatedly.

Connections 21 Connecting to an amplifier equipped with a DTS ® decoder Digital Theater Systems (DTS) DTS is a high quality surround technolog y used in theaters . If you have a DTS decoder or processor, you can obt ain the full benefit of 5.1 channel DTS encoded soundtrack s on DVDs and audio CDs.

Connections 23 This connection all ows you to use an exte rnal analog audi o amplifier t o adjust the sound level. To control the audi o: 1. Turn on the TV and the stereo amplifier. 2. Turn off the TV’s built-in speakers. Refer to the “Turning off the built-in speak ers” section on page .
Connections 24 Optional equipment connections (continued) Connecting to an HDMI or a D VI device About HDMI HDMI (High Definition Multimedi a Interface) supports both video and audi o on a single digita l connection for use with DVD players, DTV, set -top boxes, and other AV devices.
Connections 25 You can use your TV as a display device for your compu ter. Before you connect the computer to your TV, adjust the computer’s resolution an d refresh rates (60 Hz). There are several cable choic es for connecting a computer to your TV.
Connections 26 To connect AC power: 1. Connect the AC cord plug into the TV/D VD’ s AC INPUT jac k. 2. Connect the AC cord into an AC outlet. Notes: • Never connect the AC cord plug to other than the specified voltage (120 V, 60 Hz). Use the supplied power cord only.

Basic setup 29 Channel memory This TV/DVD is equipped with a channel memory feature which allows channel browsing of saved channels only; unwanted channels are skipped. Before using this function, channels must first be programmed into the TV/DVD’s memory.

40 Closed captioning WHAT IS CLOSED CAPTIONING? Your TV/DVD has the capability to decode and display closed captioned TV programs. As the picture is shown, text captions are displayed that transcribe speech and often other relevant sounds. If available, it can also display captions in another language.

46 Sound quality adjustment / Sound stream selection The Audio menu provides individual controls to adjust the sound quality of the built-in speakers. Your TV supports the MTS (multichannel television sound) featu re to let you select the preferred audio stream for analog programs.
47 Digital audio language selection / HDMI audio input source selection For digital TV, programs may sometimes b e available in tw o or more audio languages. You can select your preferred audio lan guage. When an HDMI or DVI device is conne cted, you must select the appropriate HDMI audio input source.

63 File icons If a CD contains a mixt ure of MP3, WMA, DivX ® and JPEG files, and PLAY is pressed with out selecting a file, playback automati cally begins starting from the first file in the list. Setting the f ile type listing You can choose the type of files listed in the file browser.
