3 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual IMPORT ANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS This manual contains important instructions that should be followed during the installation and maintenance of the UPS and its batteries. Hardwired UPS units are not equipped with an over-current protection device nor an output disconnect for the AC output.

5 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Product Description An uninterruptible power system (UPS) is a system that is installed between the commercial power and the load equipment. The UPS provides steady AC output power during commercial power short-term blackouts or brownouts.
6 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Inspection/Storage/Disposal Inspection Inspect for shipping damage upon receipt of the UPS. Use caution when removing the unit from the pallet. Refer to labels or documentation attached to packing material.
7 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Installation Precautions NOTICE Observe the following environmental restrictions: 1. Install the unit in a well-ventilated location; allow at least 4 inches (10 cm) on all sides for air • ventilation and for maintenance.
8 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Once the installation is complete, use a 3/4 inch wrench to screw down the UPS leveling feet located 5. next to the four casters, until the unit is no longer resting on the casters. The UPS generates and can radiate radio-frequency energy during operation.

14 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Wire Size and T ightening T orque Use the following table to select the recommended wire size and terminal lug tightening torque for I/O wire connections. Use 90 ° C copper conductors for all Input, Output, and Ground wiring.
15 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Optional Battery Cabinet Connections Optional external battery cabinets can be used to extend the backup time of the UPS beyond that available with the internal batteries. The external battery cabinets connect to the UPS via Anderson-style connectors.

25 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Operating the UPS The 1600XP should be installed and adjusted by an operator . Once installed, the 1600XP is designed to be operated by laymen. Anyone not familiar with this UPS should read the manual before attempting to operate it.
26 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Battery Backup Time and Discharge Process The UPS batteries provide approximately 5-7 minutes of back-up time depending on the 1600XP unit kV A rating. These times are valid when the unit is operating under full load and at the rated power factor .
27 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Starting/Stopping the UPS T urn the main circuit breaker (MCCB) on the back of the UPS (see pages 65-66) to the ON position. The breaker should normally remain in the ON position. V erify that the On-Line LED on the front panel (see page 32) lights green.

The recharge process usually consists of three periods. During the rst period, the current is maintained at approximately 1 ampere.
29 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Operating Modes On-Line (Run operation) The following illustration shows circuit power ow when the UPS is operating normally in the On-Line mode. The UPS rectier , including a boost chopper circuit, converts AC input power to DC power .
30 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Battery Backup (On batteries) The following illustration shows power ow during the battery backup mode. When commercial AC power failures occur , the UPS’s batteries instantly begin supplying DC voltage to the UPS’s main inverter circuit.
31 1600XP Series Installation and Operation Manual Audible Alarm Functions An audible alarm (buzzer) will sound when the UPS is in the battery backup mode, has a fault, has low battery voltage, or is in an overload condition. The buzzer will also beep each time an effective item is touched on the touchscreen.
