1 . Introduction This is the installation manual f or the exchange, stations a nd other components of TOA Intercom System EX-16. I t includes a n outline o f t he system, a n explanation of installation, cable connection, inspection procedures an d a troubleshooting guide.

2 .2 Stations 2.2.1 Features The stations used in t he To a Intercom EX-16 have th e following features: 1 . E ac h station i s provi ded with a ma le 4 -pin pl ug (YC-102) for e a sy con - nection to cables. 2 . Wiring from th e exchange to ea ch station i s a n independent 4-wi re system.

Installation of th e EX-16 System 3. 1 Precautions fo r Installation 3.1.1 Exchange P a y particular attention t o the following po ints: * T he layout should allow e as y servicing an d inspection. * Th e exchange i s compact a nd lightweight; however, it i s important to ascertain the strength o f the wall on which i t will b e placed.
3. 1. 2 Stations Particular attention should b e given t o t he following points during installation. * A desk-type, wa ll-mounting-type o r desk/wall-type should b e chosen according to t he u ser' s need.
3.2 Cable Installation Wir e type, number of w ir e pairs and number o f individual wi res are t o b e determined f or individual sections of the w iring system according to the guidelines set down below.
3 .4 Wiring General Information * Wiring should b e done independent o f public t el ephone lines. * T he wiring c on dui t i s oft en installed underground o r embedded i n buil ding structures su ch.
3.5 Piping * Where w iring i s t o b e passed through a wall or the like, i t should b e protected b y a har d P V C o r metal tube. * I f t he nu mb er of connecting wir es between an indoor terminal.

Note: Connect the individual cables i n order, starting wi th th e t op ter- minal. When using the clip pin g tool, b e sure that the cutting e d ge i s o n th e side o f the wire t o b e c ut off.

(When B G M i s not employed, the short ba r should b e kept o n t he terminal. I f the sho rt b ar i s not replaced, a humming sound wi ll b e heard fr o m th e station.

3. 9 Connection of the Talk-Back Unit Connection o f the talk-back uni t i s shown bel ow. SPEAKER SPEAKER EX-16 TERMINAL BOARD Wh en the talk-back speaker i s u se d as a m icrophone, sound clearness an d microphone sensitivity vary according to the am bient noise level an d in- stallation position.
3. 10 Connection of the Speaker Station I n the EX-16, instead o f using a station, a speaker f or one-way conversation can b e installed using a jumper i n the LAU-16. This is possible a t each station position on the LAU -16. 3.10.1 Wiring Procedure (a) First, determine the num ber of station speakers to be installed.

4 . Installation Adjustment 4.1 Inspect Before Turning Power On. * Before supply power, check the power connections (power connections should b e complete) an d th e fuse. Also, voltage selector should b e s et correctly. A ll m odules should b e in place.

4.3.1 Precedure ( 1) Turn on power switch on t he exchange. (2) Adjust th e sound level of the external P A paging and check the power remote f unction. (a) Connect one station. (b ) Press buttons an d t o test the sound level. A djust t he volume control o f th e external amplifier.
(3 ) I f t he voltage measured is normal a t every point, connect one un it a t a time checking the voltage after eac h connection. (4) I f the voltage i s upset after connecting an y given unit, the unit is to b e replaced.
4.3.3 Relationship Between Ambient Noise and C onversation M od e The EX-16 system i s provided w ith v oice switches f or the p ress-to-talk func tion which i s required when the ambient noise level is high. Below is a guide f o r u sing the press-to-talk function.
5.1 Fault in Exchange * When the power supply un it or the CPU-16 is out of order, the sa me k ind of fault w ill occur a t all stati ons. * Whe n the LAU-16 is out of orde r, a fault wi ll appear onl y at a particular station. * I f the exchange is out of order, the faulty un it m us t b e searched ou t an d replaced.
5. 2 Fault in Specific Station On ly Find the cause according to th e fo llowing table i f the fault lies w i th a specific station only, no t with all stations. SYMPTOM Dialing ca n not b e m ad e a t privacy o ff mode. Specific key d oe s n ot operate.
5.3 Fault in Cable 1 . O ne of transmitting lines (T-Line) is disconnected Symptom: 1 - 1 A can dial. 1-2 A ca n hear B . 1 -3 B c an not hear A. 1 -4 Noise i s heard a t B. 1 -5 Noise i ncr eases a t B whe n Press-To-Talk ba r i s pressed at A. 2 . One o f receiving lines (R-Li ne) is disconnected.
3 . T-Line an d R-Line a re shorted o r mixed u p . Sho rted or mixed u p 3 - 1 A can no t dial. 3 - 2 Conversation i s impossible between stations. 3 -3 When B dials A, noise will b e heard at B immediately after the calling tone. 4 . T-Li ne an d R-Line are connected conversely.
