7 Chapter 1: Intr oduction Overview Thank yo u for choosing the Th ecus IP Storage NA S Server. The Thecus IP storage is an easy-to-u se storage server that al lows a ded icated approach to storin g and distribu ting dat a on a network. Data reli ability is ensured wi th RAID fea tures that provide data security an d recovery.
8 Printer Server With the Thecus IP stora ge’s P rinter Serv er, you can easil y share an IPP p rinter wi th other PCs con nected t o your netw ork. To set up th e Print er Server, refer to Chapter 4: Applicatio n Server> P rinter Info rmation .

19 Chapter 2: Har dw are Inst allatio n Overview Your Thecus IP storage is desi gned for easy i nstallati on. To h elp you get st arted, the followin g chapter wil l help you qu ickly get your Thecus IP sto rage up and runni ng. Please read i t carefull y to prevent d amagin g your uni t during in stallation.
20 2. Install HDD on the tray, as the foll owin g chart: 3. Install the tray with HDD in to N0204 mi niNAS, please note th at the HD D-1 is i n left side and HDD-2 is i n righ t side. The trian gular symbol of tray must be correspon ding wi th the trian gular symbol of back panel.

22 N2200: To connect th e N2200 t o your netwo rk, foll ow the steps below: 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from y our networ k to the LAN port on the ba ck panel of the N2200. 2. Connect th e provided p ower cord i nto the powe r socket on the back pa nel.
23 N2200PLUS: To connect th e N2200PL US to your n etwork, fol low the steps b elow: 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from y our networ k to the WAN port on the bac k panel of the N2200PLUS . 2. Connect th e provided p ower cord i nto the powe r socket on the back pa nel.
24 N2200EVO: To connect th e N2200EV O to your net work, follow th e steps bel ow: 1. Connect an Ethernet cable from y our networ k to the WAN port on the bac k panel of the N2200EVO. 3. Connect th e provided p ower cord i nto the powe r socket on the back pa nel.
25 N4100EVO: The N41 00EV O supports fou r standard 3.5” o r 2 .5” Serial ATA (SATA) hard disks. To install a hard di sk into the N4100 EVO, foll ow the steps below: 1. Remove a ha rd disk t ray from th e N4100 EVO. 2. Slide th e new SATA h ard disk i nto the tray an d fasten the screw s.
26 2. Connect th e provided p ower cord i nto the uni versal power s ocket on t he back panel. Pl ug the oth er end of th e cord i nto a surge protect ed socket.
27 Chapter 3: First Time Setup Once th e hard ware i s i nstalled, physically connecte d to y our n etwork, and powered on, you c a n co n figu re the Thecus I P st orage so tha t it is accessi ble to yo ur n etwork users.
28 5. Please select your in stallati on mode, One Click Install ation or Manu al Installation . 6. After your in stalled HDDs are detect ed, sel ect yo ur desired RA ID level . Pr ess Next to cont inu e. 7. The N0204/N2200 wi ll automati cally create seve ral folders.
29 8. Complete the N0204/N2 200 Smart Uti lity Wi zard. A. You can ac cess the N 0204/N2 200 Web Adm inist rator interface by cli cking the Start Brower butto n. The default password is “ admin ”. You can also setup a b ackup task at t his point by clicki ng the Setup backup task button.
30 Single T ask Quick Backup : Perfo rm a si ngle backup by selecting the source and desti nation. Manually Backup and T ask List : Show all task informati on and opt ions.
31 Thecus Setup Wi zard (N2200PLU S/EVO,N4100EVO) The handy Th ecus Setu p Wiza rd makes confi guring N2200PLUS /EVO,N410 0EVO a snap. To confi gure the N2200PLUS/ EVO,N4100 EVO usi ng the Setup Wi zard, perform the fol lowin g steps: 1. Insert the i nstall ation CD into you r CD-ROM d rive (the host PC must be connected t o the netw ork).
32 6. Name you r N2200P LUS/EVO ,N41OOEVO and con figu re the network IP address. If y our switch or route r is confi gured as a DHCP Serv er, configuri ng the N2200PLUS/ EVO,N4 100EVO to auto mati cally obtain an IP add ress is recommended . You may also use a stati c IP add ress and enter the DNS Server addre ss manual ly.
33 LCD Operation The N4100EV O is equi pped wit h an LCD on th e front for eas y status dis pl ay and setup. There a re four bu ttons on the fr ont pan el to control th e LCD functi ons. LCD Controls Use the Down ( ), Up ( ), Enter ( ↵ ↵ ↵ ↵ ) and Escape ( E SC ) keys to operate LCD to view system i nformati on and USB copy.
34 The N4100 E co will rotate these mes sages ev ery one-two second s on the LCD display. USB Copy The USB Copy functi on enabl es you t o copy files stored on USB d evices such as USB disks and digital cam eras t o th e Thecus IP storage by pr ess USB copy button .
35 N2200PLUS/EVO: 1. Plug your USB device i nto an avai lable USB p ort on the Rear Pan el. 2. Press the “ US B Copy But ton”. 3. The N2200 PLUS will start copying USB disks connected t o t he rea r USB p ort. The LCD wil l displa y the USB copy p rogress and result.
36 Step 1: Network Setup From the Web Ad min istration Interfac e, you can config ure the netw ork setti ngs of the Thecus IP storage for you r netwo rk. You ca n access the Net work men u from the menu ba r. For detail s on how to con figu re your network se ttings, refer to Chapter 4: S ystem Ne twork .
37 Chapter 4: S ystem Administra tion Overview The Thecus IP storage p rovides an easil y accessi ble Web Administr ation Interface . With it, yo u can configure a nd m oni tor the Thecus IP storage a nywhere on the netwo rk. Web Administrati on Interface Make sure your network is connect ed to the Int ernet.
38 Followi ng by disclai m page, you will see th e Web Admi nistration Interf ace . From here, you can c onfig ure and m onitor vi rtually every asp ect of the Th ecus IP storage from anywh ere on the n etwork.
39 To return to the favorite screen, si mply cli ck “My Favorite” l ocated at the l eft hand corner of the main screen. Menu Bar The Menu B ar is where you will find all of the i nformation sc reens and system settings of Th ecus IP st orage.
40 Message Bar You can get i nformation about system status qu ickly by movi ng mouse ov er. Message Bar Item Status Description RAID Informat ion. Display t he status of creat ed RAID volu me. Cl i ck to go to RAID informati on page as short cut. Disks Informat ion.
41 System Informatio n Information pr ovides viewi ng on cur rent Product i nfo, System Statu s, Ser vice Status and Logs. The m enu ba r al lows yo u to see variou s asp ects of the Thecu s IP storage. From here, you can disc over the sta tus of the Th ecus IP st orage, and also other detail s.
42 Service Stat us Item Description AFP Status The status o f the Apple Filing Proto col server. NFS Status The status of the Netw ork Fi le Service Server . SMB/CIFS St atus The status o f the SMB/C IFS server . FTP Status The status o f the FTP se rver.
43 Sort Descending Shows logs by date in descending order. |<< < > >>| Use the forward ( > >>| ) and backward ( |<< < ) b uttons to browse the log pages.
44 Notification configuration From the m enu, choose the Notification item, and the Notific ation Configuration screen ap pears. Thi s screen l ets you have th e IP STORAGE noti fy you in case o f any syste m mal function. Press Apply to confirm al l settin gs.
45 Schedule Power On/Off (Only for N0204/N2200/E VO,N4100EVO) Using the Thecus IP sto rage Syst em Manag ement, you can save en ergy and money by s chedulin g th e Th ecus I P storage to turn itself o n and o f f du ring certain t imes of the day. From the m enu, choose the Schedule Power O n/Off item an d the S chedule Power On/Off screen appears.
46 System will turn on at 8:00 A M on Mo n day, and will not sh ut down unless p owered down manua lly. You may al so choose tw o on ti mes or two off ti mes on a parti cul ar day, and the system wil l act accordi ngly. Example - M onday: O ff: 8:00; Off: 16:00 System will turn off at 8 :00 AM on M onday.
47 Utility ˙ Administrato r pas sword From the m enu, choose the Administr ator Pa ssword i tem and the Chan ge Administrato r Password screen appe ars. Enter a n ew passwo rd in th e New Password b ox and con firm your new pa ssword in t he Confirm Passw ord box.
48 ˙ F actory def ault From the m enu, choose the Factory D efault item an d the Reset to Factor y Default scr een appears . Press Apply t o reset th e IP Storage t o factory default settings. ˙ Rebo ot & Shut down From the m enu, choose Reboot & Shut down i tem, and the Shutdow n/Reboot System s creen appears.
49 Once the syst em has re booted, you wi ll be returned to the Fi le Syste m Check prompt. Che ck the desi red RAID vol umes and cl ick Next to p roceed wi th the fil e system chec k. Click Re boot to rebo ot with out running the check. Once you cl ick Next , yo u will see the followi ng screen: Click Start t o begin the file system ch eck.
50 System Network Use the System Net work menu to ma ke n etwork config uration setti ngs as wel l as service supp ort setti ngs. NOTE The system must be reboote d before the Thecus IP Storage can function normally afte r file system check comp lete.
51 WAN/LAN1 WAN/LAN1 Con figuration From the System Network menu, cho ose WAN/L AN1 , and the WAN/LAN 1 Configuration sc reen app ears. Thi s scre en di splays the netw ork param eters of the WAN/LAN1 c onnection. You may cha nge any o f these i tems and press A pply to confirm your setting s.
52 LAN2 (Only for N2200PLUS/EVO,N4100EVO) LAN2 Configurati on The Thecus IP storage s upports two Gigabi t Ethernet ports fo r high er service availabili ty. To config ure these po rts, choose LAN 2 from the S ystem Net work menu, and th e LAN2 C onfiguration screen ap pears.

54 A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: Apple Network Configuration Item Description AFP Server Enable or disable Apple File Service to use the I P STORAGE with MAC OS-based systems. MAC CHARSET Specifics the code page from drop down list Zone Specifies Zone for Applet Talk service.
55 A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: FTP Item Description FTP Enable FTP Service on the IP Storage. Security FTP Enable or disable Security FTP, be sure the client FTP software has also security FTP setting enabled. Port Specifies the port number of an incoming connection on a non-standard port.
56 A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: Web Service Item Description HTTP (WebDisk) Support Enable or disable WebDisk support. Enter the port number if this option is enabled. The port number is default 80. HTTPs (Secure WebDisk) Support Enable or disabl e secure WebDisk support.
57 Bonjour Setting Bonjour, i s Apple Inc.'s trade nam e for it s implementati on of Zeroconf, a service discovery prot ocol. Bonjou r locates devi ces such a s printers, as w ell as other computers, an d the ser vices that th ose device s offer on a l ocal network usin g multi cast Domain Name System servi ce records .
58 DDNS will transfer the recorded IP address to the user. The NAS supp orts the D DNS provid ers: DyDNS.org(D ynamic DN S),DyDNS .org(Custom DNS),DyD NS.org(Stati c DNS), www.zoneedi t.com,ww w.no-ip.com. A descripti on of each i tem foll ows: DDNS Item Description DDNS Enable DDNS Service on the Thecus IP storage.
59 Disks Information Item Description Disk No. Indicates disk location. Capacity Shows the SATA hard disk capacity. Model Displays the SATA hard disk model name. Firmware Shows the SATA hard disk firmware version. Status Indicates the status of the disk.
60 S.M.A.R.T. Information Item Description Tray Number Tray the hard disk is install ed in. Model Model name of the installed hard disk. Power ON Hours Count of hours in power-on state. The raw value of this attribute shows total count o f hours (or minutes, o r seconds, de pending o n manufacturer) in power-on state.
61 This screen lists the RAID volumes currentl y residi ng on t he Thecus IP st orage. From this sc reen, you can get informati on about the sta tus of your RA ID v olu mes, as well as the capaci ties all ocated for data, an d iSCS I(N4100EVO). Th ere is al so a graph which represents how t he RAID vol ume is cur rently all ocated.
62 Used If this is checked, current hard disk is a part of a RAID volume. Spare If t his is checked, current hard disk i s d esignated as a spare for a RAID volume. Stripe Size This set s the stripe size to maximize performance of sequential files i n a storage v ol ume.
63 RAID 1 Offers di sk mirro ring. P rovides twice the read rate of single disks, but same write rate. RAID 1 requires a minimum of 2 disks. RAID 5 Data striping and stripe error correction information provided. RAID 5 requires a minimum of 3 disks. RAID 5 can sustain one failed disk.

65 To al l ocate spa ce for an iSCSI volume on th e cu rrent R AID vol ume, fol low the st eps below: 1. Under the Volu me Alloc ation List , sel ect iSCSI Ta rget then c lick Add . The Cre ate iSCSI Volume scre en appears. Create iSCSI Volume Item Description RAID ID ID of current RAID volume.
66 8. When iSCSI target volum e ha s be en created, the LUN ID is confi gurable from 1 to 254 with a defaul t of the next a vail able number in ascending numerical order. The LUN ID is unique and can not be duplicated except for LUN ID 0. 9. If you’ ve enabled CHAP authenti cation, enter a usern ame an d a pa ssword .
67 You will then see the d ial og box di splayed bel ow. Drag the Ex pand Cap acity ba r t o the size you w ant. Then p ress Expand t o confirm th e operati on. Delete Volume To delete vol ume on the cu rrent RAID volum e, follow the steps b elow: 1. Under the Vo lume A llocation List , cli ck Delete .
68 2. Press YES . Al l da ta in the volu me will be rem oved. USB Target (for N220 0PLUS/EVO) Create a RA ID, p lease mention the Da ta percentage option. The data percentage is the percenta ge you wan t to all ocate for the NAS file system. The NAS file syst em and the spac e avai labl e for USB target a separate.
69 Here y ou can d etermi ne how much space you w ould like to al locate for the U SB target. In thi s case we use all the availabl e space for the USB target. Cl ick [OK] to confirm. Once created, you shoul d see the size of the USB target here: On the NAS you are done now and y ou can connect the fr ont USB of the NAS to your PC.
70 Share Folder From the Sto rage men u, choose Sha re Folde r , and the Fol der scre en appears. This screen al lows you to c reate and confi gure f olders on the Th ecus IP storage volume. Adding Folders On the Folder screen, pre ss the Add butt on and t he Add Folder screen app ears.
71 Modify Folders On the Folder screen , p ress the Edit butt on an d the Modify Folder sc reen appears. This screen all ows you t o cha nge fol der i nformati on. After enteri ng the informat ion, press Apply to save your changes. Modify Folder Item Description RAID ID RAID vol ume where the folder will reside.
72 NFS Share To allow NFS access to t he share fol der, enabl e the NFS Serv ice , and th en set up hosts wi th access right s by clickin g Add . NFS Share Item Description Hostname Enter the name or IP address of the host Privilege Host has either read only or writeable access to the folder.
73 Choose the one which best fits your needs. Apply Click to save your changes. Folder and Sub-Fo l der Acce ss Control List (A CL) On the Fol der screen, press the ACL button, an d th e ACL setting screen appea rs. This screen al lows you to configure acc ess to the specific fol der and sub-folders fo r users an d groups.
74 3. Contin ue selecti ng groups and users a nd a ssigning them acce ss level s usi ng the colu mn butt ons. 4. To remove a group or user f rom an ac cess l evel column, pre s s the Remove button i n that column. 5. When you ar e fini shed, press Apply to confirm your ACL setti ngs.
75 ISO Mount The ISO Mount featu re is very useful tool from Thecus product s. With it, users can mount an ISO file and havin g export name to display all detail s fro m moun ted ISO file. From th e mai n menu , th e IS O Moun t f eature i s l ocated under “Storag e”.
76 To mount new ISO fi le, sel ect from li sted ISO fi le and i npu t desired mounti ng nam e into “M ount as:” fi eld. Click “ADD” wi th confi rmat ion to comp lete m ounti ng ISO fil e. Or wi thout “Mount a s” ISO fil e expo rt nam e i nput , system wi ll automat ic t o gi ve the export nam e by ISO fi le name.
77 You coul d click “Unmoun t” to eli minate mount ed ISO file. B. Using ISO The mount ed ISO fil e will be l ocated same sha re folder wit h name gi ving. Please refer the scr een shot b elow. ISO fi le “image” has moun ted as fol der “Imag e” you coul d see.
78 Local User Configuration From the Accou nts me nu, choose th e User ite m, and the Loc al User Configuration screen a ppears. This screen all ows yo u to Add , Edit , and Remove local users. Local User Configuration Item Description Add Press the Add butto n to add a user to the list of local users.
79 Edit Users 1. Select an exi sting u ser from the Loc al User Co nfiguration screen. 2. Click on the Ed it button , and Local User Setti ng screen ap pears. 3. From h ere, y ou can ent er a new passwo rd and re -enter to confi rm, or use the << or >> but tons to h ave this use r join or l eave a group.
80 2. Click on Remo ve butto n and the use r is deleted from the syst em. Local Group Configuration From the Accou nts me nu, choose th e Group item, an d the Loc al Group Configuration screen appears. This s creen allows y ou to Add , Edit , a nd Remove local groups.
81 4. Enter a Grou p ID num ber. If l eft bla nk, th e system will automati cally assig n one. 5. Sel ect users to be i n this grou p from the Us ers List by addi ng th em to the Members Li st using the << butt on. 6. Cli ck the Apply but ton to sa ve your cha nges.
82 Batch Create Users and Groups The Thecus IP storage c an al so add users and g roups in batch mode. T his enab les you to conveni entl y add numerou s users and g roups automati call y by importin g a simple comma- separate d plain text (*.txt) fil e.

88 iTunes Configuration Item Description iTunes Enable or disable the iTunes Service. Server Name Name used to identify Thecus IP storage to iTunes clients. Password Enter password to contro l access to your iTunes music. Rescan Interval Rescan interval in seconds.

93 Chapter 5: Usin g Thecus IP S t orage Overview Once the Thecu s IP stor age is setu p and operati ng, users on th e netw ork may manage al l vari eties of digital music, photos, or files by si mply usi ng their web browsers.
