2 Intr oduction The System 5000 ™ routers use flash memory cards to pro vide storage for the non v olatile file system (NVFS). The router installation and configuration files are stored on flash memory cards.
3 Installing a Flash Memory Card 1. P osition the card with the label facing up and the INSER T arro w pointing toward the card slot. 2. Insert the card into the slot, and push the card until it fits snugly into place. Model 5380 Ethernet or Model 5580 Token Ring Router 6563.
4 Remo ving a Flash Memory Card 1. Remov e the r outer from the chassis. Refer to Using the Model 5380 Ethernet and Model 5580 T oken Ring Routers for information about remo ving the router . CA UTION: The pins on the edge of the car d can be damaged if you do not pull the car d straight out fr om the socket.
5 2. Remov e the flash memory card by gently pulling the card away fr om the connectors, or by pr essing the b utton next to the slot. 6694.1 Model 5380 Ethernet or Model 5580 Token Ring Router 6502.
6 Pr otecting Files on the Flash Memory Card Bay Networks ships each memory card with its read/write protect switch in the unprotected position. Bay Networks recommends making a copy of your configuration files on another flash memory card, write-protecting the card, and storing it in a safe place for backup purposes.
7 2. Set the r ead/write protect switch located on the edge opposite the INSER T arro w of the memory card. 3. Insert the memory card as described in “Installing a Flash Memory Card” earlier in this guide.
