8 Remote control of the Surround Decoder General information The digit al su rround d ecoder can be c ontrolled us ing the F6 , F12 remote contro l han dset, or the F1 system remote control unit. If you are using the F1 hand set, it must fi rst be s witched to Hi-Fi mode.

11 Main Menu The ' M ain M enu ' is designed for adjustm ents to the decode r w hich are only occasio nally required for daily listeni ng; perhaps to allow for temporary chan ges in the listeni ng room, or to co mpensa te for un ique charact eristic s of a s pecial listeni ng sourc e.
12 Sound fields: Dis co This sound fiel d is parti cularly s uitable for providing an even spread of sound over a dance area. The sound si gnal is re produced with equal p ower by the main and surround l oudspea kers, without e cho o r dela y.
13 Balance l eft/right and front/surround: These two menu points allow y ou to set a temporary change in the balance betw een the left/right and front/rear loudspeake rs, in o rder to c ompens ate fo r a temporary l istenin g posi tion which is less than perfect.

15 Sy stem Configuration In the ' Configura tion ' you can adju st the setti ngs f or all the audio and video components of your surround system s o that they mat ch eac h other p erfectly, a nd a t the same ti me set them to suit the acousti c charact eristic s of your li stening room.
16 Configuration You c an call up the 'Confi guration' menu by pre ssing the rem ote co ntrol button or , o r the button on the front p anel of the decoder; in either c ase ho ld th e bu tton pressed i n fo r abo ut two second s.
17 Speaker Setup In the ' Loudspea ker Menu ' you can bran ch off to the menus for setting the loudspea ker size, loudspeaker positio n, loudspeak er balance and the indi vidual tone setting s for eac h separa te louds peaker.
18 Speaker size menu In the 'S peak er size menu ' you i nitially adj ust the ou tput signal s to sui t the existing loudsp eaker syst em. To a void the l oss of any sou nd information in sy.
19 Back speaker: Setting t he size and b ass capability of the bac k loudsp eakers. The following se ttings a re possi ble in e ach case for one (6.1 mode ) or two (7.1 mo de) rear loudspeakers: none if no back sp eakers are pre sent. The back c hannel s are mixed onto the left and right surround loudspeakers.
20 Subw oofer: In t his menu poin t you set whether a subwoofer is present in your lou dspeake r system. Selec t one of the following se ttings: Bas s- m anager recomm ended s etting for s ub- woofer / satel lite syste ms. If a s ub-woofer is presen t.
21 Speaker Position Menu In the ' Sp eaker Positi on Menu ' you can enter the distanc e from the l istenin g posi tion (i n 0.3 m inc rements ) for each loudsp eaker se parately. This en ables t he deco der to co mpensat e for tim ing discrep ancies due to d ifferenc es in s peaker lo cation .
22 Speaker Balance Menu To e nsure th at the d ecoder supplies a balanced sound image, th e system al lows you t o adjust th e volume of the individua l c hannels to provid e a harm onious ly balanc ed arrangement. The purpose of the ' Spea ker Balance Menu ' is to adjust the level o f all the channe ls.
23 Tone adjust Menu The de coder features an active tone cont rol system (+/- 6dB) whose p urpose is to compensat e for the unwanted influen ce o n pla yback quality of your liste ning room, or of imperfec t louds peaker p osition s.
24 A uto Setup provide s the Auto Set up system as an aid to s etting up a su rround system correctly. If you follow the steps describ ed b elow, the DD 1535 R will carry out an automat ic calibratio n of your loud speakers with the help of th e calib ration m icrophon e suppl ied with the s et.
25 Video Inputs menu Every AV source de vice i s conn ected t o one o f the AV inputs o f the DD 1535 R by mea ns of a Video or S-Vi deo cable, in order to su pply picture dat a to the DD 1535 R .
26 YUV Inputs menu Some source devices provide picture signals using the high-qua lity Compo nent Vide o norm (YUV, YPbPr or YCbCr). If your video monito r features a cor respondi ng Com- ponent inp ut, we recommend that you conne ct all YUV- capabl e s ources us ing YUV cable s in addition *) to the standard Video or S-Video co nnection s.
27 A udio inputs Menu Up to eight AV sourc e devices (with picture and sound signal ) can be connect ed to your s urround rec eiver. The analogu e stereo signals of the e xternal sou rce devices are pas sed to the DD 1535 R via the c o-axial Cinch so ckets.
28 Special Functions menu In the Spec ial Func tions me nu you ca n set the following points: TRIGG ER 2 / TRIGGER 3 The back panel of the DD 1535 R features control outputs for auto mation fun ctions.

30 Connections DIGITA L INPUT ( OPTICAL ) Two inputs for dig ital source devices with optica l digi tal outputs can be assigned to the AV inputs (VCR, SET- TOP BOX , DVD, T V AUX AV, CAM) or to the Audio inputs (CD, TAPE, AUX/P) (see ' Inputs Menu ' ).

35 Installation, using the unit fo r the first time General notes on setting up the unit: Carefully unpac k the digita l surround de coder and store the orig inal pa cking materials care fully. T he c arton and packin g are sp ecially designe d for th is unit and will be needed again i f you wish to move th e equipment at any time.
36 Notes on connections : • Be sure to push all plugs firmly into their sockets. Loose connections c an cause hum and other unwanted noises. • Deploy all mai ns leads, l oudspe aker cable s and remote contro l leads as far as pos sible from low-level leads (inter-conne cts) and ae rial cables.

58 Trouble-shooting Many prob lems have a simpl e cause and a correspo ndingly simple solution. The fo llowing section describ es a few d ifficul ties you may e ncounte r, an d th e measure s you need to take to cure t hem.
59 Problem: Loud humming noise from the loudspeak ers. Cause: Poor contact between the C inch plugs and soc kets, o r a faulty Cin ch cabl e. Remedy : Please c heck al l conne ctions and cab les thoroughly. Problem: No sound, or d istorted soun d. Cause: Inco rrect audio co nnectio n to ampli fier or TV set.
