10 Remote con trol of the DVD 123 5 R General The DVD 123 5 R can be remote operated with the remote controls F6 and F 12 or with the s ystem control F1 . On the following diagrams all buttons used for the control of the DVD 1235 R are marked ' ' .

12 Operating the DV D 1235 R Switching on Press the bu tton on the front panel of the unit. The green indicator LED above the button lights up , as does the display screen. The u nit is now ready for use. For Stereo pl ayback (CD /SACD) switch ON your HiFi system and select the audio input the DVD 1235 R is connected to.

14 Play bac k of MP3 / JPEG / Kodak Picture CD The DVD 1235 R can play back MP3, JPEG, VCD a nd SVCD fi les from recorded available CD-R/RW discs or from comercially available CDs. A MP3-CD may contain up to 32 album fi les (directories) with music titles.
15 Listening to S A CD It exist three type s of SACD discs: single layer, do uble layer and hybrid discs. The h ybrid discs contain a standard CD and a SACD layer. The SACD layer should a lways c ontain the music in a pure stereo format. Additionally it may co ntain th e music in multi c hannel format.

18 Menu Functi ons of the DVD 1235 R General During operation of the DVD 1 235 R two different m enus are available: the disc menu a nd the player menu.
19 DVD / VCD Dis c Menu (menu operation and navigation) A DVD may contain a Disc Menu with selection facilities for individual titles and / or chapters . Depending on the DVD, the disc may also contain games, bonus material or alternatives for came ra angle, synchronous languages or sub-titles, which can be set or called up via t he Disc Menu.

22 Menu Toolbar In this menu the playback options fo r the disc can be selected. Menu Pla y Option Disk-Navigation Submenu for title / chapter selection. Audio / Subtitle Submenus for the s election of audio la nguage and subtitle language. Only languages present on the disc can be selected.
23 Menu Search Time This s ubmenu lets you enter a time position on the disc where playback shall be started. Use the numerical buttons of t he remote control to enter hour, minutes and seconds. Then press to confirm your selection. Playback will now sta rt at the selected position.

26 Menu Preference s Menu Picture The menu Picture lets you adjust the pictu re parameters to your personal preferences. Color Settings (w ill not inf luenc e th e Y UV Comp onen t v ideo out put) In this me nu you have the choice between different pre- defined color s ettings or one adjustable s etting (personal).
27 Menu Sound In this menu th e basic settings for the sound reproduction are adjusted. Night mode Off The s ound is reproduced w ith full dymanics. The di fference between loud and s oft passages may be very high. On Sound repro duction with decreased d ynamics.
28 Menu Features Wake up time r The DVD 1235 R will be switched on at the selected period of time. If th e wake u p timer i s ac tive the timer- LED in the display window will light up. Status win dow If the status window is switched on, the current o peration mode and time information is displayed on the screen of the video monitor.

30 Menu Setup If the SETUP menu is opened during pl ayback, the disc i s stopped. The playback will continue a fter closing the SETUP on screen menu. Menu Language In this menu you can select the default values for the languages for sound track, sub titles and On-Screen- Menus.
31 Menu TV TV-System The DVD 1235 R is compatible with both NTSC and with PAL video monitors. PAL Use this setting, if the picture shall be displayed on a PAL TV. DVDs i n NTSC forma t are converte d to PAL by the DVD 1235 R and output in standard PAL video mode.

36 Back panel c onnections MAIN ANALOG OUT The a nalogue ou tput of the DVD video player supplies a fixed-level output signal. I t is designed for connection to a pre-amplifier, i ntegrated amplifier or receiver with its own volume control.
37 R LINK 2 nd ADDR . Toggle s witch fo r the selection of the remo te control address of this device within a - R LINK system. Note: If no CD player is o perated within the 'R' s ystem, the 'R LINK 2 nd ADDR.
38 Setting Up t he DVD 1235 R Carefully unpack the DVD 1235 R and store the original packing materials c arefully. The ca rton and packing a re specially designed for this unit and will be nee ded again if you wish to move the equipment at any time. Please be sure to read the safety notes in these inst ructions.

50 Trouble-shooti ng Many p roblems have a simple cause a nd a corres- pondingly simpl e solution. The following section des- cribes a few difficulties you may e ncounter, and the measures you need to take to c ure them.
51 Problem: Surround decoder / receiver fails to recognise digital surround programs (Dolby Digital or dts). Cause: The digital output of t he DVD 1235 R is wrongly configured ( PCM instead of ALL ). Remedy: Set the d igital output to the correct ALL setting (see 'Basic device settings' ).
52 Problem: If the DVD 1235 R is connected to a TV set direc tly using a SCA RT lead, this can result in a scrolling DVD picture appearing on all programme memories.
