About This Guide Introduction The ES3000 User Guide provid es general instructions for config uring and using the ES300 0 Ethernet Switch. This guid e provides inform ation general in nature for th ose who may be ne w to the E3000 Ethernet Switch device.
ES3000 Use r Guide viii • Sequential lis ts (those describing step-by -s tep procedures) appe ar as numbered lists. Service Information If a problem with is encountered with the equipmen t, contact the Symbol Customer Support . Refer to Appendix C for contac t information.
Switch Management Overview 1.1 About the ES3000 Ethernet Switch The ES3000 Ethernet Switch comes in two versions. One version provides Power over Ethe rnet (PoE) in a ccordance with IEEE standard 8 02.3a f. This allows comp atible Ethernet devices to obtain power from the 10/100BaseT Ethernet wiring.
ES3000 Use r Guide 1-2 1.2 Management Access Overview The Symbol ES3000 Managed Switch pro vides user interface flexibility using: • An administration console • A W eb Browser interface • External SNMP-based network-management application. The administration console and Web Browser inte rface a re embedded in the switch firmware.
Switch Management Overview 1-3 virtual terminal protocol (T elnet), and a terminal connecting directly to the console port through a null- modem serial cable.
ES3000 Use r Guide 1-4 1.5.2 Package Contents Inspect the package co ntents and report any missin g or damaged items to the Symbol sales representative.
Switch Management Overview 1-5 1.5.3 Supplying Power T o cable the ES3000 Ethernet Switch to receive powe r: 1. Connect the supplied AC power cord to the power connector on the rear of the Ethe rnet Switch. 2. Plug the cord into a standa rd AC outlet with a voltage range fro m 100V AC to 240V AC.
ES3000 Use r Guide 1-6 1.6 Administration of t he ES3000 Ethernet Switch There are three management us er interfaces on the switch: menu-driven, CLI, and Web. The menu- driven and CLI interfaces are a ccessed using a direct serial connection or via T elnet over an Ethernet connection.
