7-1 DR IVIN G T IPS 66J21-03E 52D078S Important Vehicle Design Features To Know Multipurpose vehicles such as your n ew SUZUKI have higher ground clearance and a narrower track than conventio nal pas- senger cars, to make them capable of per- forming in a wide variety of off-road applications.
7-2 DR IVIN G T IPS 66J21-03E Shorter Wheelbase Along with its higher ground clearance, your vehicle has a shorter wheelbas e and shorter front and rea r overhangs than many passenger cars. These features combine to allow you to drive your vehicle over hillcrests witho ut hanging up on them or damaging the frame and chassis com- ponents.
7-3 DR IVIN G T IPS 66J21-03E Don’t Make Sharp Turns As mentioned before, small multipurpose vehicles have spe cific design characteris- tics that allow them to perform in a wide variety of applications. These characteris- tics also change the corne ring behavior relative to conventional passenger ca rs.
7-4 DR IVIN G T IPS 66J21-03E Off-Road Driving Your vehicle has specific design chara cter- istics for off-road driving. Wh en you leave the pavement, you will encounter drivi ng surfaces of all kinds which may change continually as you dri ve. In most cases, off- road driving require s the use of 4-wheel drive.
7-5 DR IVIN G T IPS 66J21-03E Tire Chains Tire chains sho uld only be used if th ey are needed to increase traction or are required by law. Make sure that the chains you use are small-link chain s or cable-type chains and are the correct size fo r your vehicle’s tires.
7-6 DR IVIN G T IPS 66J21-03E WARNING In addition to f ollowing the driving tips in this section, it is important to observe the following precautions for on-road and off-road driving.
