Chapter 1 Introduction 1-1 Overview The SuperServer 1028R-WTR(T) is a high-end server comprised of two main subsystems: the SC1 16TS-R706WBP 1U chassis and the X10DRW -i(T) dual processor serverboard. 1-3 Chapter 1: Introduction PCI Expansion Slots The X10DRW -i(T) has one (1) SMC-proprietary PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot, one (1) SMC- proprietary PCI-E 3.0 x16+x16 slot, and one (1) PCI-E 3.0 x16 Add-On-Module (AOM) slot for a mezzanine HBA card. PCI slots are controlled by CPUs: both CPUs must be installed to utilize all slots.

These fans are 1U high and are powered by 4-pin connectors, with chassis fan speed controlled by IPMI software.

Chapter 2: Server Installation 2-1 Chapter 2 Server Installation 2-1 Overview This chapter provides a quick setup checklist to get your SuperServer 1028R-WTR(T) up and running. Following these steps in the order given should enable you to have the system operational within a minimum amount of time.

Chapter 3: System Interface 3-1 Chapter 3 System Interface 3-1 Overview There are several LEDs on the control panel and on the drive carriers that provide system and component status for the 1028R-WTR(T) server . This chapter explains the meanings of all LED indicators and the appropriate responses that need to be taken.
3-2 SUPERSERVER 1028R-WTR(T) USER'S MANUAL UID Depressing the UID (unit identi fi er) button illuminates an LED on both the front and rear of the chassis for easy system location in large stack con fi gurations. The LED will remain on until the button is pushed a second time.
Chapter 3: System Interface 3-3 HDD Indicates IDE channel activity . SAS2/SA T A drive and/or DVD-ROM drive activity when fl ashing. NIC2 Indicates network activity on GLAN2 when fl ashing. Chapter 5: Advanced Serverboard Setup 5-7 Caution: Y ou can only install the CPU to the socket in one direction. Make sure that the CPU is properly inserted into the socket before closing the load plate. If it doesn't close properly , do not force it as it may damage your CPU.

When this LED is on, the system is on. Be sure to turn off the system and unplug the power cord before removing or installing components.

5-30 SUPERSERVER 1028R-WTR(T) USER'S MANUAL 5-12 Serverboard Battery Caution : There is a danger of explosion if the onboard battery is installed upside down, which will reverse its polarites (see Figure 5-x). This battery must be replaced only with the same or an equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer (CR2032).
Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-1 Chapter 6 Advanced Chassis Setup This chapter covers the steps required to install components and perform maintenance on the SC1 16TS-R706WBP chassis. For component installation, follow the steps in the order given to eliminate the most common problems encountered.
6-2 SUPERSERVER 1028R-WTR(T) USER'S MANUAL 6-2 Control Panel The control panel (located on the front of the chassis) must be connected to the JF1 connector on the serverboard to provide you with system status indications. A ribbon cable has bundled these wires together to simplify the connection.
Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-3 6-3 System Fans The SC1 16 chassis includes four (4) cooling fans. These fans are NOT redundant, hot-plug and must be replaced when they fail with the power off.

Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup 6-5 6-4 Drive Bay Installation/Removal Accessing the Drive Bays Hard Drives: Because of their hotswap capability , you do not need to access the inside of the chassis or power down the system to install or replace hard drives.

Swing the handle fully out and use it to pull the unit straight out. Note: Y our operating system must have RAID support to enable the hot-plug capability of the hard drives.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-1 Chapter 7 BIOS 7-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMI BIOS Setup utility for the X10DRW -i(T) It also provides the instructions on how to navigate the AMI BIOS Setup utility screens. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a Flash EEPROM and can be easily updated.

This Setup utility can be accessed by pressing <Delete> at the appropriate time during system boot.

Chapter 7: BIOS 7-5 CPU Con fi guration This submenu displays the information of the CPU as detected by the BIOS. It also allows the user to con fi gure the CPU settings. Socket 1 CPU Information/Socket 2 CPU Information This submenu displays the following information regarding the CPU installed in Socket 1 or Socket 2.
7-6 SUPERSERVER 1028R-WTR(T) USER'S MANUAL RTID (Record T ypes IDs) This feature displays the total number of Record T ype IDs for local and remote pools. The options are Optimal and Alternate. Hyper-threading Select Enabled to support Intel Hyper-threading T echnology to enhance CPU performance.
