In the first step, the Primar y Charge r oller (PCR) places a uniform negative DC Bias v oltage on the OPC drum sur face. The amount of the negative DC Bias placed on the drum is contr olled by the printer’s int ensity setting. This process is part of the latent Image formation block.
The third step (dev eloping block) is where the toner image is de veloped on the drum by the de veloping section, (or supply cham- ber), which contains the toner particles. The toner is held to the magnetic r oller sleeve b y the stationar y magnet inside the s lee ve, and a DC bias voltage supplied b y the high voltage power supply .
In the sixth step (fusing block) the image is then fused on t o the paper by the fuser assembly , which is comprised of the upper fixing film assembly and the lower fuser r oller . The paper passes between a heat ed upper fixing f ilm assembly and a soft lower rubber roller .
REQUIRED TOOLS 1. T oner appr oved v acuum 2. A small common screwdriv er 3. A Phillips head screwdriv er 4. Needle nose pliers SUPPLIES NEEDED 1. Dedicat ed P40 15 series toner: 465g f or the 64A & 1 065g for the 64X (preliminar y w eights) 2. Replacement drum 3.
1. Place the car tridge with the t oner hopper facing up and to wards you. This will orient the cartridge for right and left sides. 2. Open the drum cov er tow ards the back of the car tridge. 6. Remo ve the five scre ws from the left end cap. 7 . Remo ve the right and left side end caps from the car tridge. Note that the gears do no t come of f the gear (right) end cap. 8. Separate the toner hopper and wast e chamber . 9. On the large gear side of the wast e chamber , remove the screw and whit e plastic drum bushing.
1 0. Remov e the drum. 11 . Remov e the PCR. 12. R emove the tw o screws from the wiper blade. 13. R emove the wiper blade fr om the car tridge and clean out the wast e toner . UNINET IMAGING INC . • BRO THER 1240/1650 • ASSEMBLING THE T ONER CARTRIDGE UNINET IMAGING INC .
1 4. Due to the high speed and page counts of these car- tridges, we recommend that the wiper blades be replaced. Make sure that the wiper blade f oam seals are clean. 15. Install the ne w wiper blade and two screws. 1 6. Clean the PCR with your standard PCR cleaner .
19. Install the drum small gear side first onto the drum axle pin 20. Install the white plastic drum bushing and scre w. If the OEM drum grease is dir ty , clean it off with alcohol, and replace with white lithium grease. 2 1. On the supply chamber , carefully pry of f the Magnetic roller (MRS) co ver , and remove.
23. Note the location of the spring that sits betw een the MRS holder and the hopper . Remo ve the two scre ws, spring and the holder . 2 4. Remo ve the MRS assembly . UNINET IMAGING INC . • BRO THER 1240/1650 • ASSEMBLING THE T ONER CARTRIDGE UNINET IMAGING INC .
25. Remo ve the two doct or blade screws and the doctor blade. No te the clear plastic strip that cov ers the DB screws. Slide the screwdriv er under the strip. Be careful not to damage the strip! 26. Remo ve the fill plug and clean out all the remaining toner in the supply hopper 2 7 .
28. Note also the ne w heavy duty style magnetic r oller contact. This when combined with the new larger diamet er of the roller , allow the cartridge to run at the higher speeds that these machines are capable of. 29. There are HP-4000 style magnetic roller bushings on each side of the r oller .
30. Unlike the HP-4300 series where there are three separat e mixing blades in the toner hopper . These car tridges just use one large mixing blade inside the toner hopper . 3 1. The upper mag. r oller section of the toner hopper is dif f er- ent in that is “Floats” on a series of foam seals.
34. Remo ve the right side small bushing from the magnetic roller slee ve and install it onto the holder . Make sure the tab on the bushing aligns with the slot in the holder . 35. Install the holder 2 screws and spring. Mak e sure the screw holes line up, and that the two locking tabs on the bo ttom of the holder are in the correct place.
36. Install the MRS drive gear . 3 7 . Install the key ed MRS cover . Make sure that the k eyed hole in the cov er matches the key ed end of the magnet in the MRS assembly . 38. Fill with appropriat e amount of P40 15 toner , install the fill plug. 39.
40. Install the right side end cap and five scre ws. 4 1. Install the remaining three screws on the left end cap. 42. Install the spring into the drum co ver arm as shown. Pull the upper tail of the spring until it fits into the notch in the arm hub. 43.
