1 Intr oduction Overv iew The SV831SUN, 8 Por t S tarView KVM switch, repre s ents a nother addition of re liable KVM sw itches from S tarT ech .com. It allow s one user to control up to 64 SUN compu ters with one key board, mouse a nd monitor .

3 Cascade (Master/Slave) Configuration Y ou can c onnect a seco nd level of one or more S tarV iews to " PC 1 "~” PC 8 ” ports of a Ma s t e r unit. Casca de configuration exp ands system abi lity allowing y ou to select c omputers conne cted to the Mas t e r or Sl aves .
4 Installa tion Make sure a ll computers a nd S tarV iews are powered dow n during inst allation. Console Connection Monitor: A SUN monitor w ith either 13W3 or H DB15 connector can be conn ected to the CON SOLE as shown in figure 3 and 4. A regular VGA monitor w ith HDB15 connector m ay also be connecte d to the CONSOLE as shown in figure 4.
5 Figure 4: M aster console conne ction for monitor with HBD1 5 connector Computer Connection Each SUN com puter is conne c ted to t he S tarView with one straight through (1-1, 2-2, 3-3… 8-8) mini DI N8 cable (as show n in figure 5) and one male- to-male HDB15 VG A cable.
6 For SUN comput ers using a 13 W 3 conn ector for monitor connection, a 13W3-to-HDB15 adapter is req uired for such computer ’s moni tor port as show n in figure 6. 9 Oper ation Front Panel Push Buttons Y ou may select a comp uter by pressing th e front panel push button directly by issuing hot-key commands. The front p anel indicat or changes to re flect the computer port selected (r ed) and whether the port is conn ected to a pow ered computer (green).
10 Hot-key commands Hot-key com m and is a short keyboard sequence to selec t a computer , to activ ate computer scan, etc. S tarV iew interpret s keystroke s for hot-keys a ll the time. A hot-key sequence st arts w ith two lef t <CTRL> keystroke s followed by on e or two more key s trokes.
11 g Audio S tick An optional m ultimedia mod ule can be LINKed to the back of eac h S tarV iew for sele cting micropho ne and stereo s peaker signals . There are tw o options for Aud io Stic k : ON and Off . When set to ' On ', audio sele ction follow s computer sele ction.
