INTR ODUCTION is man ual describ es the thermal print er TUP500 ser ies. I t is designed for use as a referen ce for p eriodic inspec tions and main tenance procedur es to be exec uted by ser vice p ersonnel . I t is not intended fo r the general us er .
CHAPTER 1 ADJUSTMENTS is prin ter has underg one various ad justmen ts so that it will at tain a given standar d of performance. In this cha pter , a brief explana tion is given of the m ethods for making adj ustments. Fo llow the instructions when performing ma intenan ce inspect ions o r when replacing parts to co rrect malfunct ions.
1. Sensor Adjustment Present er Sensor is prin ter is equip pe d with the follo wing three paper sensors: PE/BM Sensor • PE(P aper End)/BM(Black Ma rk) Sensor D etects presence o f roll paper and b lack marks. • NE(Nea r End) S ensor Detects whether the roll paper is nearing i ts end.
- 3 - 4. Set ordinary paper that is no t used for black ma rks, in the PE/BM sensor unit sho wn below . U se the release lever to open the platen unit (the TUP592 includes pr esenter unit), insert t he paper f ro m t he paper insertion inlet and then close the pla ten unit to set the paper .
- 4 - 1.2 A djustme nt of the NE Sensor (TUP592 Only) 1. T urn the printer o and unp lug the power co rd. 2. Remove the scr ews. en, remove the boar d chassis. 3. U sing the tip of a ballpoint pen o r a similar object, set the DIP switches as f ollows: DSW1-4 OFF , DSW1-5 ON.
1.3 A djustme nt of the Pr esenter Sensor 1. T urn the printer o and unp lug the power co rd. 2. Remove the scr ews. en, remove the boar d chassis. 3. U sing the tip of a ballpoin t pen or a similar object, set the DIP switches as f ollows: DSW1-4 OFF , DSW1-5 ON.
- 6 - 5. Connect the AC adapt er and turn the power switch on while pres sing switch SW1 on the c on trol panel. e LED on the con trol pane l wil l ash two times, then the prin ter will enter the p resenter senso r adjustmen t mode. 6. U s e a small regular screwdriver to slowly turn the VR3 clockwise, as shown in t he drawing below .
CHAPTER 2 MAINTENANCE AND L UBRICA TION 1. Maintenanc e ............................................................................................ 8 1-1. Cleaning the Thermal Head and Pla ten .........................................................
1. Maintenance In or der to maintain t he optim um performance of this printer and to preven t t ro uble, maint enance must be c arried out accor ding to the follo wing items. When performin g mainte nance, alwa ys turn o the power , and take the app rop riate measur es to oreven t static electricity .
1-2. H andling P aper J ams If recording paper should b ecome j ammed, open the platen unit (including the pr esenter unit of TUP592) and remo ve the jammed paper . Never p ull on the jammed paper unnecessary while the printer uni t is closed be cause this can dama ge the drive system pa rts.
2. Lubrication Lu brication is v er y important t o maintain o ptimum perfo rmance and to p revent tr ouble. 2-1. L ubricant e t ype of lubrican t greatly aects the per forma nce and durability of the print er , espe cially in a low temperat ure envi- ro nment.
