1 1. Introduc tion 1.1 Welcome to the SCS.1m! Thank you for purchasing SCS.1m! The SC S.1m ( S tanton C ontrol S ystem 1 m ixer) is th e premie r mixer c ontro l surfa ce/audio int erface for laptop DJ s, re mixers, V Js, and produc ers . Before w e begin , ther e are a f ew impo rtan t issue s we woul d li ke to b ring to your attenti on.

3 2. Connecting the SCS. 1m 2.1 Connecting to Your C omput er Step 1 : Locate the incl uded power cable and adapter (12V) and connect it to the SCS.1m an d to your power source. (Figure 2.1) Note If you own bo th the S CS.1 m and the S CS.1d, the power ada pters look very similar.

5 2.3 Connecting to the SCS.1 d All of the SC S . 1 controll ers have two FireWire ports on them, so devices can be chaine d togethe r if neede d. So when co nnecting a single SCS.1d to the SCS. 1m, yo u would go fr om the unused FireW ire port on th e SCS.
6 3. SCS. 1m Des cripti on In th is chap ter, we wil l bri efly desc ribe the T op, Front, a nd Back SC S.1m pane ls. It’s important to under stand that the SCS. 1m is a traditional DJ m ixer “analogy” in a control surf ace. This mea ns that while th e SCS.

8 3.1.1 Channel St rip The butto n at the top of the s trip mi ght be m apped t o func tionalities li k e deck or channel f ocus, a shift modifier , etc. Five rotary encode rs i n the top sec tion of t he channel strip can be mappe d to tradition al mixer function s like gain, E Q, and panni ng.
9 3.1.3 Cro ssfader Section The CRO SSFADE R is traditionall y used to fade be twee n songs playi ng in dif fere nt cha nnels. ( Figu re 3.4 ) You might a lso consid er mapp ing the CRO SSFAD ER to non - traditio nal functiona lities , li ke effec ts pa ramet ers, filter s, or settin g sel ection s (li ke scroll ing thro ugh effect s).
10 3.1.5 Browser Section This ar ea of th e SCS .1m would typically be mapped to brows er - type func tionality, whethe r that is scroll ing through your l ibrary in Trak tor , or selecting scenes in Ableto n Live. (Figure 3. 6) T he three buttons at the top of the section can be used to selec t and activate banks or directory tre es.
11 3.2 Front Panel In this pane l, you will be a ble to connect your headphones. Stanton has include d a headphone exte nder cable as the headphone jack is rec essed i nto the pa nel to pr eve nt accide ntally dam aging t he headphone jack.

13 4. SCS.1m So ftw are In stalla tion To fully max imize SCS.1m capabilities and take advantage of its great features, s ome so ftwar e needs to be in st alled with it. In fact, t he SCS.1m So ftware Insta llation process differ s greatl y betwee n Mac and PC computer s .
14 4.1 Windows XP 1. Double click th e executable fil e (.exe). If the following Op en File - Security W arning app ears, click Run . (Figure 4.1) Fig ure 4.1 2. The Stanton SCS.1 DaRouter S etup Wiza rd will guide you through the installatio n process.
15 3. To insta ll the so ftwar e for t he fir st time, choos e the Standard option. T o update your pre vious ly inst alled versi on , choose Custom . In th is examp le, let ’s cho ose Standard . 20 To che ck that your driv ers and sof tware are pro perly ins talled, ope n Device Manager . On your desktop, ri ght click My Computer icon and click Properties . In the Sy stem Properties window, c lick th e Hardw are tab , and then the D evice Manag er button.
21 4.2 Mac OS X Before you in stall DaRouter, pleas e follo w thes e easy st eps: 1. Connect SCS.1 co ntroller s to the computer' s FireWire port but have the m powe red OFF . Turn ON your SCS.1 m c ontroller . Open the Audio MID I Setup appl et to mak e sure it is r ecogn ized.

26 5. DaRouter 5.1 About DaRouter DaRouter is a n application dev elope d between St anton and Bom e’s Soft ware, whi ch allows SCS.1m to s pecifi cally integrate and interact wit h audio a pplication s. DaRouter t akes incomin g messages co ming from S CS.
27 5.2.1 Section A Active P reset Dropdown The Active P reset is the currently use d prese t. In this drop down menu, al l pre - install ed p resets wi ll be li sted as well as any pre sets dragged or manually loaded into DaRouter. To load a preset in to DaR outer, just select on e fro m the list.
28 For exa mple, if you click the SC S.1 m Optio ns button the SCS.1m Audio C ontrol Panel will open so you will b e able to Start and Stop the strea min g proce ss, ac cess t he Defe rred Pr oced ure.
29 Now, i f you click the SCS.1d Options button the SCS.1d Contr ol Panel will op en , so you will be able t o chang e the Scratch Engage, the Scratch Relea se, and Pitch B end Sens itivit y values. (Figure 5. 5) Scratch Engag e Sensitivity – The SCS .
30 5. 3 Using D aRouter When usi ng DaRout er, the re are two bas ic types of pre sets t hat you m ay utilize ; ge neric a nd applic ation spe cifi c. The generic preset a llows you to configure the appl ication to SCS.1m th rough con ventional MIDI Learn .
31 6. Trouble shooti n g 1. I have both the S CS.1 m and S CS.1 d, and w hen I try t o power t hem up n othing happens . W hat is wrong? Y ou probably have the powe r supplie s for each c ontrolle r swapped. If you plug the wro ng pow er cor d into a unit, it w on’t powe r up.

33 Appendi x Optimi zing C omputers f or 13 94 (Fi reWire) When usi ng any com puter fo r live audio applications it is always suggested to pe rform certain optimiz ations to ensure consis tent per formance. F or the m ost part live audio is not alw ays the highes t cons iderati on for both hardware designe rs and s oftware pr ogrammers .

38 Window s 139 4a Bandwid th Limitin g Issue (Windows XP - Vi sta) First, let’s explain a little abo ut what the SidSpeed Fix i s. Basic ally, Si dSpeed i s a va lue in your w indows regis try that regula tes the spee d of your FireWir e bus. It can have a value from 0 - 3 (0=S100 sp eed, 1=S2 00 speed, 2=S400 spee d, and 3=800 speed).

An important point after buying a device Stanton SCS.1m (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:
If you have not bought Stanton SCS.1m yet, this is a good time to familiarize yourself with the basic data on the product. First of all view first pages of the manual, you can find above. You should find there the most important technical data Stanton SCS.1m - thus you can check whether the hardware meets your expectations. When delving into next pages of the user manual, Stanton SCS.1m you will learn all the available features of the product, as well as information on its operation. The information that you get Stanton SCS.1m will certainly help you make a decision on the purchase.
If you already are a holder of Stanton SCS.1m, but have not read the manual yet, you should do it for the reasons described above. You will learn then if you properly used the available features, and whether you have not made any mistakes, which can shorten the lifetime Stanton SCS.1m.
However, one of the most important roles played by the user manual is to help in solving problems with Stanton SCS.1m. Almost always you will find there Troubleshooting, which are the most frequently occurring failures and malfunctions of the device Stanton SCS.1m along with tips on how to solve them. Even if you fail to solve the problem, the manual will show you a further procedure – contact to the customer service center or the nearest service center
