OP E R A TION F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 -1 9 - OP E RA T ION Operation Over view T o complete a typical cutting operation, the operator does the following: 1. Examines the workpiece to make sure it is suitable for cutting. 2.
-2 0 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION De sc ri pt io n of C on tr ol s & Components Refer to Figure 14 and the following descriptions to become familiar with the basic controls and components used to operate this machine.
F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 -21- OP E RA T ION Blade Selection Selecting the right blade for the cut requires a knowledge of various blade characteristics. This section breaks down blade characteristics to help the reader make an informed decision about what blade to use for a given operation.
-22 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION T ooth Set Three common tooth sets are alternate, wavy, and raker (see Figure 16 ).
F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 -2 3 - OP E RA T ION Blade Pitc h (TP I) The chart below is a basic starting point for choosing teeth per inch (TPI) for variable pitch blades and standard raker set bi-metal blades/ HSS blades.
-2 4 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION Blade Changes Change blades when they become dull, damaged, or if the operation requires a different type of blade. T o change the blade: 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Raise the headstock, then remove the wheel access cover.
F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 -2 5 - OP E RA T ION blade selection Blade T ension Proper blade tension is essential to avoid blade vibration, twist, or wheel slippage. A correctly tensioned blade provides long life, straight cuts, and efficient cutting.
-2 6 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION Blade Care & Break- In Blade Care To prolong blade life, always use a blade with the proper width, set, type, and pitch for each application.

-2 8 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION Start and stop downfeed with the downfeed valve. The downfeed rate is adjusted by turning the downfeed rate adjust knob ( Figure 26) . Turning the knob clockwise decreases the downfeed rate and turning the knob counterclockwise increases the downfeed rate.
F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 -2 9 - OP E RA T ION Angle Cuts The headstock can be swiveled to cut angles from 0–45° to the left and 0–45° to the right for a total swing of 90°. When making cuts to the right, the vise should remain in the left position.
-30 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION Blade Guide The upper blade guide should be positioned as close to the workpiece as possible for all cutting operations. The support provided by keeping the blade guides close ensures straight cuts by keeping the blade from twisting and drifting off the cut line.
F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 - 31- OP E RA T ION Cutting Fluid System This bandsaw has a built-in cutting fluid system that extends the life of your bandsaw blades by lowering the temperature of the blade and workpiece and washing away chips.
- 32 - F or Machi nes Mfg. Since 8 / 0 9 Mod el SB 1 0 1 9 OP E RA T ION Operation T ips Review the following tips to help you safely and effectively operate your bandsaw and get the maximum life out of your saw blades. • Usetheworkstoptoquicklyandaccurately cut multiple pieces of stock to the same length.
