5 Getting Started Getting Started Step 2 Setting up the r emote commander Inserting the batteries Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries by matching the + and – on the batteries to the diagram inside the battery compartment. Insert the negative (–) end first, then push in and down until the positive (+) end clicks into position.
6 Getting Started Step 3 Connecting the VCR Connect the aerial to your VCR and TV as shown below to watch TV pr ogrammes and VCR pictures on your TV . In addition, if your TV has audio/video (A/V) input jacks, we recommend you connect the VCR to your TV using an audio/video cable to get a better pictur e and sound.

8 Getting Started 5 T une the TV to the same channel as that shown in the display window so that the picture on the right appears on the TV screen. Refer to your TV manual for tuning instructions. If the pictur e does not appear clearly , see “T o obtain a clear picture fr om the VCR” below .

10 Getting Started Step 6 1 Pr ess ONE TOUCH TUNING on the VCR for more than 3 seconds. The VCR starts the channel pr esetting. The W AIT indicator goes of f when all receivable channels are preset. T o check if the channels ar e preset correctly Set the TV to the video channel and pr ess PROGRAM +/– on the VCR.

15 Getting Started Getting Started Disabling unwanted pr ogramme positions After tuning the TV channels, you can disable unused pr ogramme positions. The disabled positions will be skipped later when you press the PROG +/– buttons. 1 In step 5 on page 14, press ? / / repeatedly to display the number “0” beside CHANNEL SET .

Basic Operations 18 Basic Operations Playing a tape 1 T urn on your TV and set it to the video channel. 2 Insert a tape. The VCR turns on and starts playing automatically if you insert a tape with its safety tab r emoved. 3 Pr ess · PLA Y . When the tape reaches the end, it will r ewind automatically .

Basic Operations 20 T o use the time counter At the point on the tape that you want to find later , pr ess COUNTER RESET . The counter in the display window resets to “0:00:00.” Search for the point afterwards by referring to the counter . Basic Operations 21 Basic Operations T urning on the VCR and TV , and starting playback automatically (T rinitron TV Synchr o Play) Y ou can only use this function if your TV is made by Sony (T rinitron TV).
Basic Operations 22 Recor ding TV pr ogrammes 1 T urn on your TV and set it to the video channel. 2 Insert a tape with its safety tab in place. 3 Pr ess PROG +/– to select the programme position you want to r ecor d. 4 Pr ess SP/LP (SP/EP) to select the tape speed, SP or LP .
Basic Operations 23 Basic Operations 5 Press r REC to start recor ding. The r ecording indicator lights up red in the display window . T o stop recor ding Press p STOP . T o check the remaining tape length Press DISPLA Y . The white bar indicates the appr oximate length of tape remaining.
Basic Operations 24 T o r ecord NTSC colour system programmes NTSC colour signals can be r ecorded through the line input (LINE IN) only . Display “L” in the display window using INPUT SELECT or PROG +/– in step 3. For tape speed, select SP or EP in step 4.
Basic Operations 25 Basic Operations Recording TV pr ogrammes using the easy timer Y ou can recor d one programme on the same day (within 24 hours) with the easy timer . If the VCR clock has not been set, you can set the clock befor e setting the timer recor ding.
Basic Operations 26 Recor ding TV programmes using the easy timer (continued) 4 Set the r ecording stop time in the same way as in step 2, then pr ess the EASY TIMER knob. A programme number flashes. 5 T urn the EASY TIMER knob clockwise or counter clockwise to select the programme you want to r ecord.

Basic Operations 29 Basic Operations T o stop r ecording T o stop the VCR while recor ding, press p STOP . T o check or change the timer setting Pr ess EASY TIMER knob repeatedly until the setting you want to check or change flashes. Then r e-enter the new setting, if necessary .
Basic Operations 30 Setting the timer manually Y ou can preset up to eight programmes at a time. Before you start… • Check that the VCR clock is set to the correct time. • Insert a tape with its safety tab in place. Make sure the tape is longer than the total recor ding time.

33 Additional Operations Recording TV pr ogrammes using the quick timer After starting recor ding in the normal way , you can have the VCR stop recor ding automatically after a specified duration. QUICK TIMER 1 While recor ding, press QUICK TIMER once.

Power Clock Playback Symptom The ON/ST ANDBY switch does not function. The power is turned on but the VCR does not operate.
41 Additional Information Recording Symptom No TV programmes appear on the TV screen. TV r eception is poor . The recor ded pictur e has no colour or unusual colours. The tape starts playing as soon as it is inserted. The tape is ejected when you press r REC.
42 Additional Information T roubleshooting (continued) Sapphire tape cleaner The unit incorporates a sapphire tape cleaner which cleans a video tape when it is loaded. This cleaner can prevent the video heads from contamination by r emoving dust or mold fr om a tape with the sapphire edge.
