12 Connecting digital audio equipment By using a c ommercially availabl e optical digita l cable, you can enjoy surroun d sound with the effect of b eing in a movie theatre or a concert ha ll. When con nectin g the con sole to au dio equi pment wit h digital connec tors, refer to the instructio ns supplied with the device to b e connected.

16 Play ing a game 4 Close the dis c cover. Push t he mid dle of t he disc cover. After the di sc cover is clos ed, the game will start. Notes • You can also start a game from the Bro wser screen ( page 35 ). • If you tur n on the conso le after inser ting a disc, the game will start automati cally.
17 Playing a game Games The Analog Contro ller (DUALSHOCK ® 2) is equippe d with a pressu re- sensiti ve b utton f unctio n. It a lso h as a vibrat ion f unctio n. Part names * T he left and right a nalog stic ks, or the L3 and R 3 buttons, function o nly in ana log mode (indi cator: red).
18 Using Memor y Cards You can use the Analog Controller (DUALSHOCK ® ) (SCPH -110 E) with the PlayStatio n ® 2 console , but the function s of the buttons in an alog mode may be different fro m those of the Analog Contro ller (DUALSHOCK ® 2). Only the left an d rig ht analo g stick s can be use d in anal og mode .

26 Using the pla yback modes When using a DVD-RW disc (VR mode), you ca n select the type of title s you w ant to play. 1 With playback s topped, select in the Con trol Pan el ( page 22) and then pre ss the button . Original a nd Play List will be sele cted in turn each time you press the button.

30 Adjusting D VD play er se ttings DNR (Digital Noise Reduc tion) You can use th is setting t o help reduce rou ghness in the on -screen image and prod uce a cle aner pic ture. Notes • "DNR 2" is mor e effecti ve for redu cing imag e roughness than "DNR1" , but in some cases a n afterimage m ay appear.
31 Adjusting D VD play er set tings DV D s • DVD-RW disc (VR mode) content can only be viewed in standard interlace format. The "P rogressive" option is not a vailable when pl aying su ch conten t. Pause mo de You ca n use this op tion to set the pictur e status when playba ck is paus ed.
