4 This System Can Play the Following Discs Disc logo Contents Disc size Play time “DVD VIDEO” logo is a trademark. When you play an NTSC disc, this system outputs the video signal in the NTSC system only . In this case, if your TV is a P AL system mode, the picture becomes noisy .
5 T erms for discs • Title The longest sections of a picture or a music piece on a DVD; a movie, etc., for a picture piece on a video softwar e; or an album, etc., for a music piece on an audio softwar e. Each title is assigned a title number enabling you to locate the title you want.

12 Getting Started Connecting the AC Power Cor d Before connecting the AC power cord (mains lead) of this system to a wall outlet, connect the speakers to the system (see page 8). Connect the AC power cor ds (mains leads) of your TV/ video components to a wall outlet.
13 Getting Started Selecting the Language for On-Scr een Display DVD SETUP 3 Select the desired language using M / m , then press ENTER. 4 Press DVD SETUP to exit menu. T o cancel using the setup display Press DVD SETUP again. Note The languages you can select are the ones displayed in Step 2.
14 Getting Started Speaker Setup For the best possible surr ound sound all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be the same distance from the listening position ( A ). However , this system lets you to place the center speaker up to 1.6 meters closer ( B ) and the r ear speakers up to 4.
15 Getting Started x Size When you do not connect center or r ear speakers, or move the rear speakers, set the parameters for CENTER and REAR. Since the front speaker and subwoofer settings ar e fixed, you cannot change them. The default settings ar e underlined.
16 Getting Started T o specify the balance and level of the speakers 1 Press TEST TONE on the r emote. Y ou will hear the test tone fr om each speaker in sequence. 2 Press AMP MENU r epeatedly to display <<LEVEL >> on the front panel display .
17 Getting Started Pr esetting Radio Stations Y ou can pr eset 20 stations for FM and 10 stations of AM. Before tuning, make sur e that you have turned down the volume to the minimum. 1 Press BAND r epeatedly until the band you want appears on the front panel display .
18 Depending on the DVD or VIDEO CD, some operations may be differ ent or r estricted. Refer to the instructions supplied with your disc. 1 T urn on the TV and select the video input so that you can view the pictures fr om this system. 2 Press ? / 1 (POWER) to turn on the system.

20 Playing Discs Selecting a Sound Field Y ou can enjoy surr ound sound simply by selecting one of the pre-pr ogrammed sound fields accor ding to the program you want to listen to. Press SOUND FIELD r epeatedly until the sound field you want appears on the fr ont panel display .

22 Playing Discs Customizing Sound Fields By adjusting the surround parameters of the fr ont, rear and center speakers, you can customize the sound fields to suit your particular listening situations. Once you customize a sound field, the changes are stor ed in memory indefinitely (unless the system is unplugged for about a day).
23 Playing Discs The system stores the point wher e you stopped the disc and when “RESUME” appears on the front panel display , you can resume playback fr om that point. As long as you do not open the disc tray , Resume Play is available even if you turn the power off.
24 Playing Discs Using the title menu A DVD is divided into long sections of a picture or a music piece called “titles.” When you play a DVD which contains several titles, you can select the title you want using the title menu. 1 Press TITLE. The title menu appears on the TV scr een.
25 Playing Discs When playing VIDEO CDs with PBC functions (V er . 2.0 discs), you can enjoy simple interactive operations, operations with search functions, etc. PBC Playback allows you to play VIDEO CDs interactively , following the menu screen on the TV scr een.
26 Playing Discs Cr eating Y our Own Program (Pr ogram Play) Z Y ou can play the contents of the disc in the or der you want by arranging the order of the titles, chapters or tracks on the disc and cr eate your own program. One program can be r estor ed in the system and contain up to 99 titles, chapters and tracks.
27 Playing Discs 4 T o program other titles, chapters or tracks, r epeat Step 3. The programmed titles, chapters or tracks ar e displayed from 2 in or der .
28 Playing Discs Checking the remaining time Press TIME. Each time you press TIME while playing the disc, the display changes as shown in the following chart. Notes • Depending on the DVD, the chapter number or time may not appear or you may not be able to change the front panel display .

53 Other Operations Listening to the Radio Preset radio stations in the system’s memory first (see “Presetting Radio Stations” on page 17). 1 Press FUNCTION r epeatedly until “TUNER” appears on the front panel display . The last r eceived station is tuned in.
54 Other Operations Naming Pr eset Stations Z Y ou can enter a name of up to 7 characters for pr eset stations. These names (for example, “XYZ”) appear in the system’s front panel display when a station is selected. Note that no more than one name can be enter ed for each preset station.
55 Other Operations Using the Sleep Timer Z Y ou can set the system to turn of f automatically at a specified time. Press SLEEP on the r emote while the power is on. Each time you press SLEEP , the time changes as shown below . The display dims after you have specified the time.
