20 Controlling TVs w ith the remote You can ad just the r emote control’ s signal t o contro l your TV. If you co nnect the reco rder to an AV am plif ier (recei ver), you can also use th e sup plied r emot e to control the AV amplif ier’s (receiver’ s) volume.
21 Hookups and Settings Controlling the v olume of your AV amplifier (rece iver) wi th the remote 1 Slide th e TV/DVD· VIDEO sw itch to DV D·VI DEO . 2 Hold down "/ 1 , and en ter the manufac turer c ode (s ee the table b elow) for yo ur AV am plifie r (recei ver) using t he number butto ns.
22 Step 7 : Ea sy Set up Follow the s teps below t o make the minimu m numbe r of basi c adju stme nts for using th e recorder. If you do no t complete Easy Se tup, it will appe ar each tim e you turn on yo ur reco rder . Settings a re made in the followin g order.

If you us e an ante nna only (no cable TV), sele ct “An tenna .” For a ll other co nnec tions, select “Cable. ” 8 Press ENTER . 68 Adjusting the pi cture (tracking) You can manually adjust tra cking if the recordin g quality is too poor to be remedied by the VCR’s automatic tracking (a tracking meter appe ars during the automatic t r acking). Press TRACK ING +/–. The trac king met er appea rs.
69 VCR Playback Play back Op tions *1 Can be pres sed up to four times to forwa rd about two mi nutes. *2 For 10 s econds in SP or LP mode/fo r 15 s econds in EP mode. To resume norma l playback , press H PLAY. Notes • The sound is muted duri ng playba ck at various speeds.

71 VCR Playback Displ aying the Play ing Time and Play Info rmatio n You ca n check playbac k infor mati on, such as elapsed or remaining time, re cording mode, etc., on the TV screen . Press DISPL AY durin g play back. The inf ormatio n display appear s.

73 VCR Recording VCR Recording Before Recordi ng Before you start recording… • T his VCR record s in VHS for mat, not S-VHS format. • Check that the ta pe is longer than the recording time (page 7 1). Notes • Timer r ecordings will s tart with or wit hout the re corder turned on.

75 VCR Recording When t he cou nter reach es “0: 00,” t he rec order stop s reco rding a nd t urns o ff. To canc el the Quick Ti mer Press z REC repeat edly unti l the count er appear s in the front panel displa y. The recorder returns to norma l rec ordi ng m ode.
76 VCR Time r Recor din g You can set the timer for a tota l of 12 p rograms together wi th DVD and VCR timer rec ording, up to one mon th in adva nce. Follow the steps belo w to set each timer recording items. Note Do not operate your cable box or s atellite receiver just before or durin g a timer recor ding.
77 VCR Recording 6 Press SYST EM MENU to turn off the menu. To stop record ing Press x STOP twice. If timer setting s overlap The prog ram that star ts first has prio rity an d the second pro gram star ts recordi ng only after the first progra m ha s finis hed.
78 Recor d ing Fr om Conn ected Equip ment With a Time r (Synch ro Re c) You can set th e recor der t o autom atical ly reco rd pro grams from connec ted equi pment that has a timer functi on (such as a satelli te tuner). Connect the equip ment to the LINE 1 IN jacks on the rear of the re cord er (pag e 27).
79 VCR Recording Notes • The re corder st arts re cording o nly after d etect ing the video signal fr om the connected equip ment. The beginning of the program may n ot be re corded regardless of whether or not the r ecorder’s power is on or off.
