25 Pre par atio n GB Preparing the PSP™ system for use 3 Plug the AC power cord i nto an electrical outlet. The power indicator light s up in orange, indicating th at charging has begun. The power indicator will turn off when the battery is fully charged.
26 Connecting the headphones with remote control 1 Connect the headpho nes to the PSP™ syst em. Hint The remote control is exclusively for use with the PSP™ system and cannot be used with other devices. Also, remote controls supplied with other devices cannot be used to operate the PSP™ system.
27 Basic op erations GB T urning the PSP™ system on and off 1 Slide the power/hold switch up. The power indi cator lights up in gr een, and the home menu is displ ayed. Hints • If the PSP™ system is turned on with a UMD™ inserted, the UMD™ will begin playback automatically.
28 T urning the PSP™ system on and off 1 Hold the power/hol d switch i n the up position for more than three seconds. The power indi cator flashes and the n turns off, indi cating that th e system is turned off.

When sleep m ode is cleared, yo u can b egin pla yback from the po int you entered sle ep mode. Notices • Do not put the system into sleep mode while the Memory Stick Duo™ access indicator is on.

32 Inserting a Memory Stick Duo™ 1 Open the slot cover and insert the Memory Stick Duo™. Ejecting the Memo ry Stick Du o™ Open the slot c over and press t he Memory S tick Duo™ in the dire ction of the arrow to ejec t. Notice When the Memory Stick Duo™ access indicator is lit, the PSP™ system is saving or loading data.

34 Using the sound button The sound butt on is used to adju st the tone and to mu te the sound f or audio playback and f or key tones. 1 Press the sound button. Each time you press the butto n, the tone cha nges as follows : Hint Tone can only be adjusted when using the headphones.

37 Basic op erations GB Battery The battery c harge level is displayed on the screen. Estimati ng the remain ing batt ery power Hints • If the power indicator flashes green, save game progress and recharge the battery. If the battery runs out before you save, game progress will be lost.
38 Battery • Battery charge level can also be checked in "Battery informati on" under "System Settings" ( page 92). • If the PSP™ system is left unused after the battery runs out, the date and time settings may be reset.
39 Basic op erations GB Battery Hint The battery pack lifespan varies depending on how it is stored, the conditions of use and environmental factors, such as temperature. For safet y reasons, t urn off the system an d remove th e power cord from the electri cal outlet before r eplacing t he battery pack.

When the syst em remains id le for a certai n period of time, it saves power by automat ically turn ing off the back light on the LCD scr een.
