14 Step 2: Performing the initial settings The first time you turn on your CLIÉ h andheld, you are required to ma ke initial settings. Fo llow the o n-screen instructio ns to config ure the init ial settings and to get acc ustomed t o operati ons on you r CLIÉ han dheld.
15 Setting up your Sony CLIÉ™ handheld Notes • Alway s use the point of the stylus for tappi ng or making stro kes on the CL IÉ handhe ld screen. Nev er use a real pen , pencil, or other sharp objec t to write on the screen . • When yo u put the stylus back in it s holder, push it in until it clicks into place.

The following sho ws how to start applic ations from the CLIE Launche r screen using th e Jog Dial™ nav igato r.

All the changes in the appl ic ation that yo u are working o n are au tomatically saved, and the last screen you worked on is d isplayed wh en you restart the applic ation.

26 Performing a hard reset If the soft reset does no t solve the p roble m, you need to perform a hard reset to resta rt your C LIÉ hand held. Notes • All re cords an d add- on appl icat ions st ored in your CLIÉ han dhel d will be er ased by perfor ming a har d rese t.

32 Step 3: Enter a user name for your C LIÉ handheld 1 Place your CLIÉ handheld in the cradle. 2 Press the HotSync button on th e cradle. The Ho tSyn c ® operat ion starts an d the insta llation for the ne cessary software starts automatically.

34 Synchronizin g data betwee n your CLIÉ handh eld and compu ter (Hot Sync ® ) What is a HotSync ® operation? A HotSync ® operatio n is a o ne-step operatio n that allows yo u to sync hronize dat.
