Lifti ng and tu rning the comput er with the Min i Docking Sta tion attached may caus e the Mini Dockin g Station to dis connec t from the comp uter .

Using th e Flopp y Disk Dr iv e 49 T o use as an internal drive 1 If another de v ice is in the multipurpose bay , remove the de vice. See “T o remov e the second battery pack” on page 66. 2 Insert the floppy disk driv e into the mu ltipurpose bay with the V A I O logo facing up.

T o remove a diskette ❑ When you finish using the diskette, w ait until the LED indicator turns off and then press the Eject bu tton to remo ve the diskette.
Using th e Flopp y Disk Dr iv e 51 Handling Diskettes ❑ Do not open the shutter manually and touch the surface of the diskette. ❑ K eep diskettes away f rom magnets. ❑ K eep diskettes away f rom direct sunlight and other heat sources. T o remove the flo ppy disk d rive (Wind ows 2000 mo dels only) 1 Double-click the Power Management icon in the system task tray .
Using the D VD-ROM or CD-R W Drive 53 Using the D VD-ROM or CD-R W Drive Y our c omputer comes with a D VD-R OM or CD-R W driv e. The CD-R W driv e is supplied with select mo dels only . T o insert a disc 1 T urn on the computer . 2 Press the Eject b utton to open the D VD-R OM or CD-R W dri ve.
V AIO Notebook User Guid e 54 3 Place a D VD or CD in the tray with the label s i de facing up . For D VDs, which can be played on both sides, the side of the disc facin g up is the side that plays. Push the di sc onto the hub until the dis c clicks into place.
Using the D VD-ROM or CD-R W Drive 55 T o pla y a D VD When you play DVDs on a tele vision connected to the Mini Dockin g Station (PCGA-PS X1), a part of the video screen will not appear with the factor y setting.
V AIO Notebook User Guid e 56 T o write t o a CD-R W or CD-R (For models with a CD-R W drive) If you use DirectCD™ to write data, you must first format the disc before writing on a ne w CD-R W or CD-R. If you do not format the disc, you r computer w ill not recognize it.
Using the D VD-ROM or CD-R W Drive 57 T o remove the D VD-ROM or CD-R W drive 1 Right-cli ck the Po wer Management i con in the sys tem task tray and choose “Remo ve multipurpos e bay de vice [IDE].” A message ap pears informing y ou that the de vice can no w be safely remo ved f rom the system.
V AIO Notebook User Guid e 58 Notes on CD and D VD m edia Handling CD and DVD media ❑ Do not touch the surface of the d isc. ❑ Do not d rop or bend the disc. Clean ing CD and DVD media ❑ Fingerprints and du s t on the sur face of a disc may cause read errors.
Using PC cards 59 Using PC cards Y our c omputer includes two PC card slots. PC cards allo w you to connect portable e x ternal devices, s uch as ano ther hard disk dri ve, or to connect a networ k. T o insert a PC Car d Use the lo wer slot for T ype III PC cards.
