Using the Keyboard # Combinations and Functions with the Fn Key Combination s/ Feature Funct ion Fn+ (ESC) System Su spend Puts the system into System Suspend mode, a power- management state. T o return the system to the active state, pr ess any key or press the power but ton on your computer .

Using the T ouchpad % Using the T ouchpad The keyboar d contains a cursor-pointing device called a touchpad. Y ou can point to, select, drag, and scroll objects on the scr een u sing the built-in touchpad. V AIO® Notebook User Guid e & Using the Floppy Disk Drive The computer comes with the floppy disk drive in the multipurpose drive bay . T o in sert a diskette 1 Hold the diskette with the label side facing up. 2 Gently push the diskette int o th e d r ive unti l it click s i nto p lace.
Using the Floppy Disk Drive ' Handling Diskettes ❑ Do not open the shutter manually and touch the surfa ce of the diskette. ❑ Keep dis k et tes away from mag nets. ❑ Keep diskettes away fr om direct sunlight and other heat sour ces. T o rem ove the floppy disk drive (W indows 2000 models) 1 Double-click in the system task tray .

Using the DVD-ROM Drive ! Using the DVD- ROM Drive Y our computer comes with a DVD-ROM drive, whic h plays boths DVD-ROMs and CD-ROMs. T o ins ert a disc 1 Tu r n o n t h e c o m p u t e r . 2 Press the Eject button to open the DVD-ROM drive. The tray slides out.
V AIO® Notebook User Guid e ! 4 Close the tray by pushing it gently . T o play DVDs T o achieve optimum performance when playing DVDs, it is recommended that your computer not be connected to the port r eplicator while playi ng DVD movi es or using DVD applications.
Using the DVD-ROM Drive !! Playing a DVD ❑ Y ou can play DVDs using a DVD-ROM drive and the Media Bar software. See the online manual that came with the Media Bar software for details. ❑ While playing a DVD, the display mode is 1024 x 768 dots. This improves play performance.
V AIO® Notebook User Guid e !" Using the CD-RW drive (PCG-F570 only) Y our notebook comes equipped with a CD-R W drive, which enables you to read and write data, depending on the media you ar e using. W ith CD- R W media, the drive enables you to write, erase, and r ewrite to the media.
Using the CD-RW drive (PCG-F570 on ly) !# Writing data to CD-RW/CD-R media Before writing to a new CD-R W or CD-R, you mu st first format the disc. If you do not format the disc, your co mputer will not r ecognize it. Formatting time and available capacity after formatting when you use a 74-minute CD-R W or CD-R.
V AIO® Notebook User Guid e !$ ✍ Always use the AC a dapter as the power source for your computer when y ou are writing data to a CD-RW or CD-R. Using battery power may result in data transfer failure . Do not strik e or shak e the computer while writing data to a disc.
Using PC Cards !% Using PC Cards Y our computer includes two PC card slots. PC car ds allow you to connect portable external devices such as another hard disk drive, or to connect a network. T o ins ert a PC card Use the lower slot for T ype III PC cards.

When you use a T ype III PC card, you need to r emove both the top and bottom PC car d slot pr otectors. 3 Insert the PC car d into the PC car d slot, front label facing up. Gently push the card into the slot until t he car d is fixed into the connector .
Using PC Cards !' T o remove a PC card (W indows 98 models) 1 Close any applications that are using the PC card. 2 Click the PC car d icon in the taskbar and close th e car d window . 3 Pull the PC car d release button up and pres s it in towar d the computer .

Using Smart Connect " Using Smart Connect The pr einstalled Smart Connect softwar e allows you to use an i.LINK ® cable (not supplied) to connect your V AIO notebook to another V AIO computer that also has Smart Connect. Y ou can then use one computer to copy , delete, and edit files on the other computer .
V AIO® Notebook User Guid e " Using Infrared Communication Devices Y our computer includes an infrared port, located on the left side. Y ou can use this port to communicate with other infrar ed-equ ipped devices with compatible pr otocols, such as a digital still camera or other computers.
Using Infrared Communicat ion Devices "! ✍ Infrared communication capability can be turned on and off . By default, it is not enabled when your system is shipped. T o enable infrared use , click the infr ared icon in the Windows Control P anel and select th e Enable infrared communication check box on the Options tab .

Using Power Saving Mod es "# System Suspend Mode The computer saves the cur r ent state of the system in RAM and switches of f power to the CPU. The umber power indicator light flashes in this mode. T o activate System Suspend mode Press Fn+Esc, or pr ess the power button and r elease it immediately .
V AIO® Notebook User Guid e "$ Using a Second Battery Pack Y ou can purchase a second r echargeable battery pack. W ith two battery packs, you can extend the time that you use your computer with battery power . When using two battery packs, the battery pack you insert first charges first.
Using a Second Battery Pack "% T o char ge the second battery pack Keep the battery pack in the computer while it is connected to AC power . The battery indicator flashes while the battery is char ging. See also “ To charge the battery pack ” on page 14 for mor e information.

Using th e W eight Saver "' Using the W eight Saver The weight saver pr otects the multipurpose drive bay when it is empty . T o at tach the weight saver 1 If another device is in the multipurpose drive bay , remove the device. See or “ T o remove the second battery pack ” on page 48 .

Connecting the Port Replicator #! Connecting the Port Replicator Y our notebook supports the use of an optional port r eplicator (PCGA-PRF1A). At ta ching a port r eplicator enabl es you to connect additional peripherals to your computer .

T roubleshooting %! ❑ If you connect external s peakers, check that the speakers ar e proper ly connected and the volume is turned up. If the speake rs have a mute button, make sur e it is off. If the speakers ar e power ed by batteries, check that the batteries ar e inserted pr operly and that the y are charged.
