15 Recording a disc right away! This section ex plains the bas ic pro cedu r e fo r m aki ng di gi ta l reco rdi n gs us i ng an optical cable connected to a C D player , Digital TV or oth er digital equipment. Mak e sure to use the optical cable. 1 Connect the optical cable t o the recor der and an external component.

20 If the play does not s tart Make sure t he recorder i s not lo c ked (pages 1 2 , 13). The playbac k soun d may skip if: • the recor der r ece ives stronger co nti nuous shock. • a dirty or scr at ch ed disc is pla ye d. When usin g a disc in Hi-MD mode, the sound may drop out fo r a ma xim um of about 12 seconds.

26 While recording A / B / C • When using the disc in Hi- MD mo de, the free space wil l show as “2.0MB” when the rem ai n ing reco rd ing ti me be co mes “–0:00: 00” . Thi s is a syste m limitati on, “2.0MB” b eing the ca pacity of the reser ve doma in.
27 Selecting the r ecor ding mode Sele ct each recor ding mo de acc ording to the recording time that you want. Discs r eco rded in Hi-MD or MD (MDLP) mode c an be played back only on MD pl ayers or recorders with Hi-MD or MD (MDLP) pla yback mode. 1 While the rec order is stop ped, e nter the m en u and se lect “R E C Se t” - “REC Mode” .

30 Using the group function when recor ding What is the g roup function? The grou p func tion is pr ovided to al l ow playba ck of disc s wi th group se tting s. The group fu nction is convenient fo r playba ck of disc s on whi ch several albums or C D sing l e s hav e been rec orded.

37 By s pecify ing Su b play modes, you ca n listen t o tracks sele cted in Main pl ay mode in various wa ys. For example, by sel ec ting “G r ou p” in Main pla y mode and “S hu ff le” in Su b play m o de, the r ecor der will pl ay the tracks in the selected group in random orde r .
38 Searching for a track (Search) Y ou ca n ea sily se arch for a t ra ck by track name, gr oup na m e, ar tist nam e, or al bum name. Artis t names and alb um names can be viewed in t h e c ase of di sc s used in Hi- MD mod e only . 1 Enter the m enu and se lect “U s eful” - “Sea rch” .

40 Editing r ecord ed tracks Before edi ting Y ou ca n ed it your recordi n g s by adding/ erasing track marks or labeling tra cks and discs. • When you edit the co nten t s o f a 1GB Hi-MD disc, use a new alkaline dry ba tte r y (b atte r y level indication shows ) or conne ct the optional AC p ower a daptor to t he recorder .

46 Y ou can move a trac k fr om on e group out of the grou p or to ano th er group . 47 Erasing tracks and the entire disc (Erase) Y ou can er ase unne ce ssary t ra cks or al l trac ks o n a dis c. When e rasing t racks tha t have been trans ferred from the comput er If you erased track s that h av e been trans ferre d fr om t he c omp uter, the transfer a uthori zati on of th e tra cks wi ll be as foll ows.

49 Dividing a track (Divide) Y ou can divide a trac k wi th a track mark , crea ting a new track f rom the part follo wing the trac k mark. The track numbers will increase as follows. • Y ou cannot add a tr ack mark on a track th at has been transfe rred f rom yo ur com puter.

56 Changing the operational dir ection of the display When you tur n th e jo g dia l cl oc kwis e, the display scrolls do wnward. This i s the factory se tting. Y ou can ch an ge t he fact ory setting to sc roll in the opposite directi on. 1 Enter the menu and sele ct “O p tion ” - “Jog Dial”.

71 While using gro up function Symptom Cause/Rem edy The grou p fun ction does not oper ate. • While usin g a disc without gr oup setting , an attempt wa s made to select some g roup-relate d men u. , Use a disc wit h gro up setting . A track c annot be record ed to a new group.
72 Y ou can not tra nsfe r tracks that will f ill up the remai ning recordi ng ti m e on the disc. • The mi nimum reco rdable tim e on a disc is normally 2 seconds in stereo, 4 secon ds in LP 2 stere o mode, and 8 sec on ds in LP4 stereo mode.
73 The re corder does not work or works poorly . • The disc i s dama ged or does not co ntain proper reco rding or ed iting data. , Reinsert the disc. Rer ecord the disc. If the error message stil l appear s, replac e it wit h an other di sc. • There i s a bu ilt-in malfu nction in the system.

78 Explanations About Hi-MD “Hi-MD” is a new Mi niDisc format. Incorpora ting the new A T RAC3plus audio c ompress ion tec hnology , Hi- MD is a new recording form at that del ivers longer re cording times than or dinary MDs. Hi -MD dis cs ca n also be used as a comput er storage medi um for non-a udi o data such as text and im ages.
