FEATURES Your new Pream plifier T uner is a vers atile audio control center. T he Pream plif ier T uner is des igned to s ound sensational and be an attrac tive, easy-to-use addition to y our audio system. Although you already have a good idea of your Preamplifier Tuner’s features, we would like to take a moment to point out certain highlights.
THE BASICS The following is intended to familiarize users with common terms and applications of home audio equipment. A mplifier - an amplif ier tak es the output of a pream p/pr eam plifier and inc reas es its level to that necessar y to drive a speak er.
FRONT PANEL 1. Headphone Jack - Stereo headphones having a standard ¼ inch binaural plug can be connected to the headphone output. The Pream plifier T uner m ust be on and in HEADPHONE Mode for proper headphone operation.
REAR PANEL The Pream plifier T uner’s back panel is organized into groups of inputs and outputs as shown below. See back of this manual for an enlarged view. 1. Serial number - B&K Components, Ltd. serial number of your unit. 2. AC input receptacle - For attaching the supplied AC power cord to the Preamplifier Tuner.

MAKING THE CONNECTION It’s tem pting to j ust plug in your new Pream plif ier T uner and have gr eat sound pour out. Bef or e you do that, take a few m inutes to plan out how y ou want the Preamplif ier Tuner to f it into your audio system.
AUDIO CONNECTIONS Connecting your analog sources to your Preamplifier Tuner A udio source - connecting a CD player to the Preamplif ier T uner’s analog inputs. Us e the sam e instruc tions for connecting to other audio sources such as a DVD, television, satellite receiver, c able box, etc.
USING FULL RANGE SPEAKERS Connect the Preamplifier Tuner’s outputs to your external amplifier(s) or powered speakers. Shown below is a typical Preamplifier output setup for use with large speakers : Note: the use of a sub woofer is optional. SUB output - Connect an RCA cable f rom the Pream plifier Tuner ’s SUB output.
USING SMALL SPEAKERS Connect the Preamplifier Tuner’s outputs to your external amplifier(s) or powered speakers. Shown below is a typical Preamplifier output setup for use with small speakers : Note: the use of a subwoofer is not optional and is needed to reproduce low frequency audio material.
ANTENNA CONNECTIONS The FM j ack is a standard scr ew on F-ty pe connector. T he AM is a push type. Strip ¼ inch of insulation off y our AM antenna wires and insert one wire end into eac h hole while holding the tabs down. Release the tabs to lock in the AM antenna wires.
OPERATION The f ollowing outlines the normal day-to-day operation of your Preamplif ier Tuner from the supplied IR rem ote controller or directly from your Preamplifier Tuner’s front panel. POWER ON/OFF The m ain power switch on the front panel of your Pream plifier T uner m ust be on f or the Pream plifier T uner to operate.
CHOOSING A SOURCE In general, the selected source will appear at the PREAMP outputs and the TAPE output. select desired source (SOURCE) step to source desired source Action From Front Panel From Remot.
ADJUSTING BALANCE BAL (L) positions the source lef t by decreasing the r ight channel level. BAL (R) positions the source right by decreasing the left channel level.
TUNER OPERATION All TUNER operations require the Preamplifier Tuner’s source be set to TUNER. Manual T uning - pres s TUNE + or T UNE - to tune the frequenc y UP or DOW N in single 10 kHz steps for AM or 200 kHz steps for FM. (9 kHz and 100 kHz steps for European version.
PRESETS Presets allow you to save your favorite settings and recall them instantly . Your Pream plifier Tuner c an store f orty presets ( 0..39). Most Pream plif ier Tuner ’s only allow saving of tuner stations . W ith the presets y ou save not only the tuner station but also the volum e, bass, treble, balanc e, loudness, and headphone m ode.
MENU For best res ults, perf orm the following set up pr ocedure when you initially install your Preamplif ier T uner and anytime you change or add sources, speakers, etc. or when you rearrange your listening area THE MENU SYSTEM Setup of your Preamplif ier T uner will require y ou to navigate through the menu system via the front panel or rem ote.
HEADPHONE ON The MAIN MENU Headphone selection provides for operating y our Pream plifier T uner’s with the CONT ROL OUT set to off. T his f eature allows y our Pream plifier T uner to turn off external am plifier s or powered sub woofers with com patible CONT ROL inputs.
SETUP The MAIN MENU provides a SETUP selec tion that enables mor e advanced custom ization of y our Pream plifier Tuner's operation. enter setup menu ↵ ( ENTER) SEL or ENTER 3 move to setup ∧.
Source Names Setup From the f actory, y our Pream plif ier Tuner will display source nam es that m atch those printed on the r ear of the Pream plifier Tuner and on the supplied rem ote. However, this m enu allows you to change the displayed names to matc h the actual s ources used.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS M y collection of equipment differs from the labels on the back of my Preamplifier Tuner, how can I hook them up? Your Pream plifier T uner provides 5 identic al sets of inputs - V1, V2, TV, DVD and CD.
A DVANCED SETUP FEATURES WA RNING - The following descr ibes the advanced featur es of the Pream plifier Tuner. Since changing som e of these f unctions m ay caus e severe eff ects s uch as no sound or no remote control operation, we suggest y ou leave this menu dis abled (hidden) for norm al operation.
CONTROL OUT SETUP Your Pream plifier T uner’s control output allows y ou to control ex ternal devices suc h as power am plifiers , projection screens, etc. The control output can be programmed on/off depending on which source is selected. Control Out - Control out can be program med to be on or off for eac h source.
