6 Basi c techniq ues for b etter im ages When you pres s the shut ter but ton halfw ay do wn, the cam era adjusts the focus au tomatical ly (Auto Focu s). Remember t o press the shutter button only halfway down. When foc using is diff icu lt t [F ocus] (page 35 ) If the imag e looks blurred even after foc using, it may be be cause of ca mera shake.
7 Basic t echniqu es for bet ter ima ges Hints for prev enting blur The came ra mo ved a cciden tally when yo u took the im age. This is cal led “Camera shake. ” On the ot her hand, if the subjec t moved when yo u took the im age, it is ca lled “subje ct blur.
8 Basi c tech niqu es for bet ter i mages Y ou can create various imag es by a djusting the expo sure and the IS O sensi tivity . Exposur e is the amoun t of ligh t that the ca mera wil l receive when you re lease the shut ter .
9 Basic t echniqu es for bet ter ima ges The appare nt color of t he subject is affected by the li ghting co nditions. Exam ple: Th e color of an imag e affec ted by li ght sou rces The color tones are ad justed automatica lly in the auto adjust ment mode .
10 Basi c tech niqu es for bet ter i mages A digita l image is ma de up of a col lection of sm all dots ca lled p ixels. If it contai ns a large number of pi xels, the pict ure becom es large, it takes up mor e memor y , and the im age is displayed in fine detail.

34 Shoot ing m enu For det ails on the oper ati on 1 page 30 Manually adjusts the exposure. • For details on the Exposure, see page 8. • The compensation value can be set in 1/3EV increments. • If you shoot a subject in extremely bright or dark conditions, or when you use the flash, the exposure adjustment may not be eff ective.

83 T rouble shooting T r oublesho oting T rou bles hoot ing If you experienc e trouble with your came ra, try the following sol utions. Be a ware t hat by se nding t he came ra for repai r, you gi ve consen t that the cont ents of th e inter nal memory may be che cked.
84 T r oubles hoot ing Cannot in s ert the bat tery pac k. • Inser t the batt ery pack cor rectly to pus h the batte ry eject le ver . Cannot turn on t he camera. • After inser ting the ba ttery pack in to the came ra, it may take a few moments for the camera to power up.
85 T rouble shooting T r oubl eshoo ting Cannot record images. • Check the free capacit y of the int ernal memory o r “Memory Stic k Duo”. If it i s full, do one of the foll owing: – Delete unne cessar y images (pa ge 28). – Change the “Memory Stic k Duo”.
86 T r oubles hoot ing Fuzzy specks appear in images shot using the flash. • Pa rticle s (dust, poll en, etc.) in the air reflect ed the flash light and appeared in th e image. This is not a malfunct ion (page 11 ). The cl ose-up shoot functio n (Macro) does not w ork.
87 T rouble shooting T r oubl eshoo ting The eyes of the subject come out red. • Set [Red Eye Reduc tion] in the (Setup) menu to [On] (p age 51). • Shoot th e subject at a dis tance cl oser than the flas h range usi ng the flash. • Light t he room and shoot the su bject.
88 T r oubles hoot ing Computer OS co mpatibility with camera is unknown. • Check “Re comme nded compu ter en v ironme nt” on page 62 for Windows, and page 73 for Macintosh. “Memory Stick PRO Duo” is not recognized b y a computer with a “Memory Stick” slot.
89 T rouble shooting T r oubl eshoo ting The image and sound are i nterrupted by noise when you view a m ovie on a computer . • Y ou are playing back the m ovie d irectly from th e intern al memo ry or th e “Memory S tick Duo”. Copy th e movie to the hard disk of your compute r , then play back th e movie from the hard disk (p age 66).
90 T r oubles hoot ing See “Pi ctBridg e complia nt prin ter” to gether with th e follo wing ite ms. Images are p rinted with bot h edges cut off. • Depending on yo ur printe r , al l the edg es of the image ma y be cut o ff.
91 T rouble shooting T r oubl eshoo ting Printing is can celed. • Y ou discon nected the dedi cated USB cab le before the (PictBridge Connec ting) mark disappea rs. Cannot inser t the date or p rint imag es in the i ndex mode . • The prin ter does not provid e these functi ons.
92 T r oubles hoot ing The lens gets f ogged. • Moisture c ondensat ion has occurr ed. T urn off the cam era and leave it for abo ut an hour befo re using it. The lens d oes not move when you turn off the camera. • The battery pack is di scharged.
