4 Getting Star ted Getting your Digital PCLink going is as simple as plugging it in to a primary USB port of any computer running W indo ws 98, W indo ws Me, W indo ws 2000, or Mac OS 9.04. There’ s no need to load any special software, b ut you will hav e to follo w a fe w simple steps.
5 4 W indows 98 should already hav e the various USB components installed and will automatically default to the location of those driv ers on your hard drive. Click Ne xt . If W indows 98 does no t hav e the v arious USB components loaded, it will tell you that the files could not be found and will request the W indows 98 CD.
6 3 In the Add Ne w Hardware Wizard , place a check ne xt to the option A u tomatic Sear ch f or a Better Driver (Recommended) and c lick Ne xt . 4 The Add Ne w Hardware Wizard will load a W i ndows Driv er folder .
7 Checking that the Digi tal PCLink is selec ted as pr eferr ed devic e W ith USB technolog y , there is nev er any need to turn your computer of f when unplugging or plugging in the Digital PCLink. When you want to use the Digital PCLink simply close any running programs and plug it into the USB port.
8 Note Some computer system s ship with an OEM version of Windo ws 98 that does not contain the entire g eneric USB driver and audio platform. If you cannot select USB A udio Device in t he Pref erred Devi ce windo w , please refer to the troubles hooting se ction at t he end of this u ser manual for furth er instructi ons.
9 Controlling the output and volume l evels The Digital PCLink ’ s volume and output controls can be accessed b y double clicking on the speaker icon at the bottom right hand side of the W indows task bar . The vo lume for the Digita l PCLink is set b y the Wav e V o lu m e slider , which is the only slider tha t the Digital PCLink uses.
10 3 T o verify that your computer is running the necessary Apple Audio Extensions, close all open applications. On the desktop, find the icon that corresponds with your Macintosh hard driv e. Double click on it. A window will open listing all the files and folders on your hard dri ve.
11 Recording to MiniDisc The Digital PCLink allows you to record music to your MiniDisc recorder by simply playing back audio using the Windows Medi a Pla yer or your fa vorite Audio Jukebox/Player application. The music file sav ed on your computer can be recorded in real time as it is being played back.
12 Monitoring the audio When the Digital PCLink is c onnected to the computer via USB cable, W indo ws will automatically as sign it as your system ’ s preferred audio de vice, therefore no sound will come out of your computer ’ s speakers or the speakers plugged into your souncard.
13 5 Y ou will need to determine whether or not your Jukebox/Player has the abilit y to control the Wave Vol u m e slider in the Digital PCLink volume control panel.
14 9 Y ou hav e no w set the lev els of the Digital PCLink for recording. Y ou can now load a full playlist and start a recording session. During recording it not advisable to use other applications on your system. Most Jukebox/P layer applications require lar ge amounts of resources to ensure flawless decoding and playback of the audio files.
15 Fix: A lot of the lar ge branded computer manuf acturers ship their systems with a cutdown OEM versio n of W indows that does not always include all the USB audio compo nents.
16 C:wininfwdma_usb.inf — dri ver location for USB Audio De vice Even though these driv ers may be present on your system, if the OEM version of W indows you are running do es not contain all the underlying USB audio components, you will not be able to select USB Audio Device as the preferred playback de vice in the Multime dia W indo w .
17 Fix: Some USB host controllers do not function within USB specif ication. Also W indows, in conjunction with other hardw are in your system, may be consuming all the isochronous bandwidth of the USB bus. Both of these interfere with the data flowing to the Digital PCLink causing it to randomly insert track marks.
18 5 System hangs when booting up with the Digital PCLink installed Problem: Y ou hav e the Digital PCLink plugged in and your system hangs ev ery time on start up. Fix: Some computers using a Phoenix BIOS hang during bootup when encountering a USB de vice with a configuration desc riptor longer than Oxf8 in length.
19 Regulator y Infor mation For the customer s in the United States . This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part I 5 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to pro vide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a r esidential installation.
