15 GB Getting Started – BASIC – Positioning the speakers For the best possible surround so und, all the speakers other than the subwoofer should be th e same distance from the listening position ( A ). However, this system allows yo u to place the center speaker up to 1.
16 GB Getting Started – BASIC – Follow the steps b elow to make the mi nimum number of basic adjustments for using the system . 1 Turn on the TV. 2 Press [ / 1 . Note • Disconnect the head phones when y ou perform the Quick Setup. You ca nnot operate steps after 12 with the h eadphones co nnected.

Getting Started – ADV ANCED – 19 GB After connecting the AC power cord (mains lead), the demonstration appears in the front panel display. When you press " / 1 on the remote, the demonstration turns off. Note • When you pr ess " / 1 on the sy stem, the d emonstration does not turn off.

Getting Started – ADV ANCED – 21 GB Select a hookup suitable for the jacks on your TV. Connecting the video cords Sends a played back DVD image to a TV. Check the jacks of your TV, and choose connection metho d A or B . Picture quality improves in order from A (standard) to B (component).

Selecting the connected component Each time you press FUNCTION, the mode of the system changes in the following sequence.
27 GB Basic Operations 4 Press X / x to select a setting. • ATT ON: attenuates the input level. The output level is changed. • ATT OFF: normal input level. 5 Press ENTER. The setting is reflected. 6 Press AMP MENU. The AMP menu turns off. You can enjoy TV sound from all the speakers in this system.
28 GB Basic Operations You can choose a suitab le sound mode for movies or music. Press MOVIE/MUSIC during playback. Press MOVIE/MUSIC repeatedly until the mode you want lights up in the front panel display. The default setting is underlined. • AUTO : selects the mode automatically to produce the sound effect depending on the disc.
Sound Adjustments 29 GB You can take advantage of surround sound simply by selecting one of system’s pre- programmed sound fiel ds. They bring the exciting and powerful sound of movie theaters into your home. Press SOUND FIELD. Press SOUND FIELD repeat edly until the sound field you want appears in the front panel display.
30 GB Using only the front speaker and subwoofer x 2 CHANNEL STEREO This mode outputs the sound from the front left and right speakers and subwoofer. Standard 2 channel (stereo) sources completely b ypass the sound field processing. Multi channel surround formats are downmixed to two channels.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 31 GB You can quickly locate a particular point on a disc by monitoring the pi cture or playing back slowly. Note • Depending on the DVD/VID EO CD, you may not b e able to do some of the op erations descr ibed.
32 GB You can search a DVD by title or chapter, and you can search a VIDE O CD/CD/DA TA CD/ DATA DVD by track, inde x, or scene. As titles and tracks are assigned unique numbers on the disc, you can select the desired one by entering its number. Or, you can search for a scene using the time code.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 33 GB You can divide the screen into 9 subscreens and find the desired scene quickly. 1 Press PICTURE NAVI during playback.
34 GB To enjoy a disc that is played before by resume playback (Multi-disc Resume) (DVD VIDEO, VIDEO C D only) This system stores th e point where you stopped the disc for up to 40 discs and resumes playback the next time you insert the same disc.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 35 GB 5 Select the track you want to pro gram. For example, select track [02]. Press X / x to select [02] under [T], then press ENTER. 6 To program other tracks, repeat steps 4 to 5. The programmed tracks are displayed in the selected order.
36 GB You can have the system “shuffle ” tracks. Subsequent “shuffling” may produce a different playing order. Note • Same song may be playe d repeated ly during MP3 playback . 1 Press DISPLAY during playback. The Control Menu appears. 2 Press X / x to s elect [SHUFFLE], then press ENTER.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 37 GB You can play all the titles, tracks or albums on a disc or a single title, chapter, track, or album repeatedly. You can use a combination of Shuffle or Program Play modes. 1 Press DISPLAY during playback. The Control Menu appears.
38 GB A DVD is divided into a lot of sections, which make up a picture or music feature. These sections are called “titles.” When you play a DVD which contains several titles, yo u can select the title you want using TOP MENU.

40 GB Some DVD-Rs/DVD-RWs in VR (Video Recording) mode have two types of titles for playback: originally recorded titles ([ORIGINAL]) and titles that can be created on recordable DVD players for editing ([PLAY LIST]). You can select the type of title to be played.

Note • The system can only disp lay the fi rst level of the DVD/CD text, such as the Disc name or title. • If an MP3 fil e name cannot b e displaye d, “*” will appear in the front panel di splay instead.
42 GB * Appears wh en: – playing an MP3 au dio track on DATA CDs/ DATA DVDs. Checking the date information (JPEG only) You can check the date information during playback when the Exif* tag is recorded in the JPEG image data. Press DISPLAY twice during playback.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 43 GB If subtitles are recorded on a disc, you can turn the subtitles on or off while playing. If multilingual subtitles are recorded on the disc, you can change the subtitle language while playing, or turn the subtitles on or off whenever you want.
44 GB What is MP3/JPEG? MP3 is audio compress ion technology that satisfies th e ISO/MPEG regulati ons. JPEG is image compression technology. Discs that the system can play You can play back DATA CDs (CD-ROMs/C D- Rs/CD-RWs) or DATA DV Ds (DVD-Rs/DVD- RWs/DVD+Rs/DVD+RWs/D VD-ROMs) recorded in MP3 (MPEG1 Audio Layer 3) or JPEG format.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 45 GB When you insert a DATA CD or DATA DVD and press H , the numbered tracks (or files) are played sequentially, from 1 throu gh 7 . Any sub-albums/tracks (or file s) contained within a currently selected album take priority over the next album in the same tree.
46 GB Pressing MENU agai n will display the album list. To stop playback Press x . To play the next or previous MP3 audio track Press . / > . Note that you can select the next album by continuing to press > after the last track on the current album, but that you cannot return to the previous album by pressing .

48 GB You can turn the album list on and off by pressing MENU repeatedly. Ti p • W hen you sele ct [AUTO], the sy stem can recognize up to 300 MP 3 tracks and 3 00 JPEG files in a single album. When you select [AUDIO ( MP3)] or [IMAGE (JPEG)], the sy stem can reco gnize up to 600 MP3 an d 600 JPEG fil es in a singl e album.
V arious Functions fo r Play ing Discs 49 GB • [MODE4]: The images randomly cycle through the effects. • [MODE5]: The next im age slides over the previous image. • [OFF]: turns off thi s function. 4 Press ENTER. The selected setting takes effec t.
50 GB You can preset 20 FM stations, and 10 AM stations. Before tuning, make sure to turn d own the volume to minimum. 1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “TUNER FM” or “TUNER AM” appears in the front panel d isplay. 2 Press and hold TUNING + or – until the auto scanning starts.
T uner Functions 51 GB Naming preset stations You can enter a name for preset stations. These names (for example, “XYZ”) appear in the system’s front panel disp lay when a station is selected. Note that no more than one name can be entered for each preset station.
52 GB What is the Radio Data System? The Radio Data System (RDS) is a broadcasting service that allows radio stations to send additional information along with the regular program signal. This tuner offers co nvenient RDS features, such as station name display.
T uner Functions 53 GB but “%” does not appear in the front panel display). Depending on the DAB services available in your area, this may take a few minutes. When scanning is complete, “COMPLETE” appears in the front panel display momentarily and an available service component list is created.
54 GB Listening to a DAB station by using a preset number Preset DAB radio stations in the system’s memory first (see “Presetting DA B stations” (page 53)). 1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “DAB” appears in the fron t panel displa y. The last received station is tuned in.
Other Operations 55 GB You can control your TV (SONY only) with the supplied remote. Controlling TVs with the remote To control the TV You can co ntrol the TV by us ing follow ing buttons. - is for selecting a channel number greater than 10. (For example, for channel 25, press - , then 2 and 5.
56 GB Operating for the THEATRE SYNC function Point the remote to the direction of TV and this system, then press THEATRE SYNC once. If this function does not work, change the transmit time.
Other Operations 57 GB You can set the system to turn off at a preset time, so you can fall asleep listening to music. You can preset the time in 10 minutes decrements. Press SLEEP. Each time you press this button, the minutes display (the remaining time) changes as follows: To check the remaining time Press SLEEP once.
58 GB You can set 2 kinds of playback restrictions for the desired disc. • Custom Parental Control You can set playback restrictions so that the system will not play inappropriate disc s. • Parental Control Playback of some DVD VIDEOs can be limited according to a pred etermined level such as the age of the users.
Adv a nced Settings and Adjustments 59 GB To play a disc for which Custom Parental Control is set 1 Insert the disc for which Custom Parental Control is set. The [CUSTOM PARENTAL CONTROL] display appears. 2 Enter your 4-digit password using the number buttons, then press ENTER.
60 GB 4 Enter or re-enter your 4-dig it password using the numbe r buttons, then press ENTER. The display for setting the playback limitation level appears. 5 Press X / x to select [STANDARD] , then press ENTER. The selection items for [STANDARD] are displayed.

70 GB To obtain the best possible surround sound, set for the size of the speakers you have connected and their distance from you r listening position. Then use the test tone to adjust the level and the balance of the speakers to the same level. Select [SPEAKER SETUP] in the Setup Display.

You will hear the test ton e from each speaker in sequence. 7 From your listeni ng position, adjust the value of [LEVEL (FRONT)] or [LEVEL (SURROUND)] using C / X / x / c . The test tone is emitted from only the speaker which you are adjusting.

Do not touch the surface. • Do not stick paper or tape on the disc. • Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or heat sources such as hot ai r ducts, or leave it in a car parked in direct sunlight as the temperature may rise considerably inside the car.
