5 Clean the flash surface before use The heat of f lash emission may caus e dirt on the flash surface to become discolored or to stick to the flash su rface, resulting in ins ufficient light emission. 11 Getting star ted Charging time This repre sents the ti me r equire d to charge fully depl eted N ickel -Metal Hydri de batteries using t he suppli ed battery cha rger in an envi ronme nt where the amb ient temperatu re is 25°C (77°F). • It takes about six hours to completely char ge the batteries.

However, the auto p ower-off function will not ope rate when the camer a is connected to a compu ter wit h the USB cable.

19 Shooti ng still images Image size You ca n choose the image size (number of pixels ) accor ding to the k ind of ima ges you want to sho ot. The larg er you m ake the image s ize , the b etter you r imag e, but also the larger the amount of data neede d to preserve your imag e.
20 Basic still image shootin g — Using auto adjustment mode , Set the mode switch to , and turn on the pow er. The name of t he folder whe r e the image will be reco rded appe ars on t he LCD screen for approxima tely five sec onds. • [FOCUS] is set to [A UTO] at the factory .
21 Shooti ng still images , Pre ss the sh utter butto n fully down . A beep sound s. When “RE CORD ING” disap pears f rom th e LCD sc reen, r ecor ding is complete. The image will b e recorded in the “Memor y Stick Duo, ” and you can shoot th e next image.
22 LCD screen display during shooting You can use [DISPLAY ] under [] wi th MENU and the control buttons v / V to t urn the display on and off. This is use ful when recordi ng under co nditions whe re it is diff icult t o check the image on th e LCD screen.

25 Shooti ng still images Crea ting or selecti ng a folder Your camer a can create multip le fo lders in a “Memo ry S tick D uo.” A lso , you can select the f older used to store im ages. When n ot cre ating a ne w folder, “101MS DCF” fol der is se lected as the reco rdin g folder .

A new folder is created wi th a number one high er t han th e la rges t numb er i n the “Memo ry Stick Duo,” and the folder becom es the reco rding folde r. 28 Shooti ng accordin g to scene condit ions — Scene Se lection When sh ooting po rtraits , lan dsca pes, twilight scenes, twilight portra its, or moving s ubjects , use th e modes b elow to improv e the qu ality of yo ur image s. Soft snap mode This mode lets you shoot sk in colors in brighte r and war mer tones for mo re beautifu l pictur es.
29 Shooti ng still images Vivid nature mode This m ode enh ances blues an d gree ns such as the sky , ocean and mount ains, lettin g you shoot n atural l andscapes with v ivid, stri king colors . • The focus setting changes to [ ]. • The flash cannot be used in this mode.
30 Setti ng the dist ance to the s ubjec t — Focus preset When shoo ting an image usi ng a previousl y set distance to the subject, or whe n shooting a subject th rough a net or window gl ass, it is di fficult t o achi eve a pro p er f ocus using the aut o focus fu ncti on.

47 Enjoyin g movies , Pre ss the sh utter butto n fully down . “REC ” appe ars on the LCD screen a nd the camera starts re cording the image. • Recording stops when the “Memory Stick Duo” is full. • The auto focus function can set the focus at any distance from approximately 1.
