The /CHG lamp (ora nge) lights up whe n chargi ng begi ns, and g oes of f when chargin g is comple ted. • After charging the battery pack, disconnect the A C Adaptor from the DC IN jack of your cam era .
12 Number of images and battery life that can be recorded/ viewed The tables sho w the approximate number of images and the bat tery life that c an be recorded/ viewed when you shoot images in no rmal mode with a fully charged battery pack at a tem perature of 25°C ( 77°F).
13 Getting star ted Using an ext ernal powe r source , Open the jack cov er and connect the AC-LS5 A C Ad apto r (s upp lied ) t o th e DC I N jack of your camera . Conn ect th e plug with the v mark facing up. • Connect the A C Adaptor to an easily accessible wall outlet (wall socket) close by .
14 Turni ng on/off your camera , Press PO WER . The POWE R lamp (gre en) light s up an d the powe r is on. When yo u turn on your cam era for th e firs t time, the C lock Set scre en appear s (page 15) . Turning off the po wer Press POWE R again. The POWER la mp goes out, and th e camera turns of f.

19 Shooti ng still images Image size and quali ty You ca n choose ima ge size (num ber of pixe ls) and ima ge qu ality (com pressio n ratio) ba sed on t he kind o f images y ou wa nt to shoot.
20 Basic still image shoot ing (using a uto adjustme nt mode) , Set the mo de dial to , and turn on the pow er. The name of t he folder whe r e the ima ge will be reco rded appe ars on t he LCD screen for approxima tely five sec onds. • The lens cov er opens when the power is tur ned on.
21 Shooti ng still images , Pre ss the shut ter button fu lly down . The shutter soun ds. The image will be recor d ed i n the “Memor y Stick.” Whe n the record ing lamp (pag e 9) goes ou t, you can shoot th e next image.

23 Shooti ng still images The maxi mum zoo m scale de pends on the image si ze. [2.0 M]: 3.8× [1.2 M]: 4.8× [VGA]: 9.6× When the image size is [3.1M] or [2.8M(3:2)], the smar t zo om does not work . • Y ou cannot confirm the image with the finder when using the smart zoom function.

42 Choosing a focus operation —AF Mode Mode dial: SET UP You ca n select from the followi ng three focus mod es for your cam era. The fa ctory sett ing is Sin gle A F. Single AF Thi s mo de a llows accu rate focu sing ove r a wide ran ge from near to di stant subjec ts, and is usefu l for shooting stat ionary subjec ts.
43 Advanced still im age sh ooting Shooting techniques Even if it is difficult to focu s in AF shooting because the subject is not in the center of t he frame, you can focus in this situation using Center AF .

45 Advanced still im age sh ooting Displaying a histogram A histogram is a graph showing the brigh tness o f an image . The hor izon tal axis shows the bri ghtness, and th e vertical axis shows the numbe r of pixels.
