15 Getti n g star ted Charging time This r epresents the tim e required to charge f ully depleted Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries using the supplied battery charger in an environment where the ambient temperature is 25°C (77°F ). • Charging is com plete in approximat ely six hours.

20 Turn ing your cam era on/off , Press POWER to turn on the camera . The POWER la mp light s in green and the powe r is on. When you turn on the camera for th e firs t time, the C l ock Set scr een appear s (page 21) . To turn off the p ower Press P OWER again, the POWER lamp goes out, and th e camera turns of f.

25 Shootin g still images Image size and quali ty You ca n choose ima ge size (num ber of pixe ls) and ima ge qu alit y (c ompr ess ion ratio) ba sed on the kind o f images y ou want to shoot.
26 Basic still image shoot ing – usi ng auto mode , Set the mode se lector t o , and t ur n on t he camer a. The recor d ing fold er name is indi cated on the LCD screen for a bout five seconds. • The lens cover opens when the po wer is turned on.
27 Shootin g still images , P ress the sh utter but ton fully down . The shutte r clicks, the sh ooting is com ple ted, and t he st ill im age is sa ved in the “M emory Stick .” Wh en the recording lamp (pa ges 11, 13 ) goes out, yo u can sh oot the next image.
28 Basic still image shooting – using auto mode (continued) About Auto Focus When y ou tr y to shoot a subject tha t is h ard to focu s on, t he AE/AF lock in dicator will change to flash ing slowly. The Au to Fo cus func tion may b e diffi cult to use with in the fol lowing subjec ts.
29 Shootin g still images Using the zoom feature , P ress the zo om buttons to choo se the desire d zoom position, a nd sh oot your image. The minim um distance needed to focus on a subject Appr oxi m.
30 Shooting close-ups – Macro (DSC-P72 only) For close-up s of small subj ects like flow ers or in sect s, shoot usin g the mac ro featur e. You ca n use this featur e for close-u ps of subjects up to the distances specified below.
31 Shootin g still images Using the self-timer , Set the mode selector to , and pres s V ( ) on the control butt on. The (Sel f-timer) indica tor ap pears o n the LCD screen . • If the menu is currently displayed, press MENU first to make the menu disappear .

39 Viewing st ill images Watching images on a TV screen If you wa nt to view im ages o n a TV, you need a TV having a video in put jack and the A/V co nnecti ng cable (sup plied). The colo r syste m of the TV must match as that of your di gital still ca mera.
40 Deleting i mages , Set the mode se lector t o , and t ur n on t he camer a. Select the image yo u want to delete with b / B on the control but ton. , Press (Del ete). The image has not ye t been delet ed at this poin t. • Y ou cannot delete prot ected images (page 67).

53 Advanced st ill image shooting • Under fluorescent lights that f licker , even if you choose , the white balance m ay not be properly adjusted. • When th e flash is trigge red, the manual s etting of white balance is cancelled, and the shooting of the image is done in Auto m ode.
54 Shooting multiple fram es – Clip Motion Mode se lector: You ca n shoot a num ber of still ima ges consecu tively ( GIF anima tion). Beca use the file s ize i s small, t hese images a r e idea l for use on a hom e pag e, or for at tachin g to an e- mail message.
55 Advanced st ill image shooting • If you do not complete Step 6 , all the images will not be saved in the “Memory St ick.” • In Clip Motion, the date and time cannot be inserted. • When you view Cl ip Motion i mages using the Index sc reen, the images may appear dif ferent from the actual image recorded.

70 Choosing images to print – Print (DPOF) mark Mode se lector: You ca n designat e certain i mages to be prin ted . This ma rk is conveni ent when yo u want to print images at a shop tha t confor ms with the DPOF (Digit al Print Order Format ) standard.

92 Shooting still imag es / movies The power turns off suddenly. • If you do not operate the camera for about 90 second s whil e the pow er is on , the came ra turns off automa tically to preven t wearing down the battery (wh en [Power Sa ve] is [Off], aft e r thre e minute s.
