1 Blu-ray Disc ™ Guide What is Blu-ray Disc ™ Media? Blu-ray Disc™ media (BD), is a revolutionary new media fo rmat developed by a group of the worl d’ s leading consumer e lectronics, personal computer , and media manufacturers.
2 Simplicity Blu-ray technology ma kes the t a sk of choosing which basic media type to use easy with only three dif f erent formats to choose from. They include: • BD-R (Blu-ray Disc Recordable) - Recordable format for HD video recording and PC dat a storage.
3 What does this mean for me? The limited capacity of DVDs result s in video and audio files being compressed to fit on a disc. This causes a quality reduction in the picture and/or sound . The greater capacity of BD discs allows for pristine picture quality and vi rtually full spectrum audio.
4 What do I need to experience Blu-ray technology? T o fully appreciate Blu-ray’ s vi deo and audio outp ut capabilities 2 , you would need the following: TV / Monitor For the best experience and output to a HD TV or monitor ( HDCP monitor), do the following: • Output to a high definition te levision/monitor using HDMI or DVI-D 3 connection.
5 Notes • The content of cert ain Blu-ra y Disc™ movies may require a HDCP compliant monitor . If yo ur TV/monitor has a HDMI™ connection, it should suppo rt the HDCP content protectio n functionality . • If you connect to your TV/monitor using DVI, check you r display’s user manual to se e if it is HDCP compliant.
6 Blu-ray Disc Comp atible Programs Sony has included three Blu-ra y Disc compatible software programs to the V A IO ® packag e of factor y-installed software for select V AIO personal computers. They are provided to give you the tools you need to ex perience Blu-ra y Disc te ch no log y .
7 Roxio ® Easy Media Creator Roxio ® Easy Media Creator is perfect for backing up large amounts of dat a to recordable optical discs. The version of Roxio Media Creator installe d on your V AIO co mpu ter supports the cre - ation of data discs using Blu-ray Disc™ technology .
8 Creating a Dat a Disc Before you beg in If you plan to use a BD-R (writ e once ) disc when creating a data disc, you should consider whethe r you want the disc lef t open (appendable) or closed (non ap pendable) at th e end of a reco rding session.
9 5 If desired, type a name for your disc in the V olume Label text box located at the top of th e project window . 6 Add files to your disc by the following methods: • Click the Add Data button and from the Select files and folders to add screen, locate and sele ct the files/folders you wish to add.
10 Easy Archive The Easy Archiv e project lets you ea sily backup im portant files to a disc or hard drive. An Easy Archive project can be scheduled to run whenev er it's con venient. Lar ge archive projects are automatically spread across as many discs as you ne ed.
11 Additional Information Roxio ® Easy Media Creator is designed to be use d for both Blu-ray Disc™ and standard definitio n func tio na lity su ch as CD bur nin g, standard DVD bu rning, etc. For additional infor mation about the Roxio Easy Media Creator featur es available to you, refer to the Help file 5 .
12 Ulead ® BD DiscRecorder for V AIO ® With Ulead ® BD DiscRecorder fo r V AIO ® you can cap tur e, ed it, and save videos in the BDA V format for use with BD-RE or BD-ROM 4 . Ulead BD DiscRecorder for V AIO allows you to do the following: • Capture videos an d create a new BDA V pr oject.
13 Before you begin Before you begin a new project, you should review the current Preferences and Project Settings. These settings can af fect the properties and quality of your pr oject result s.
14 Capture Pref erences Project Settings From the Project Settings dialog box, yo u can Change MPEG Settings and customize your Vid e o S a v e options, which include General and Compression settings. T o access Project Settings • Click the Project Settings icon located in th e lower left corner of the windo w .
15 6 From the Capture Vide o screen, select the capture device from the Source drop-down list. 7 Select the Capture M ode. Choose f rom Fixed duration , Marked duration , or Full DV t ape . 8 Select the Vid eo format. For HDV camcorder , MPEG2 is the only option.
16 The selected files open in the program video clip list located at th e bottom of the windo w . T o import DVD videos (non-copyrighted only) into your movie 1 S tart Ulead ® BD DiscRecorder for V AIO ® . From the Windows ® T askbar , click the Start button.
17 Burning to a BD disc T o burn a project to a BD disc 1 When you finish reviewing an d editing the video files on the New/ Append Disc window , and are re ady to burn the video fi les to a BD disc, click Next to op en the Previe w and Finish window .
18 5 Make sure your BD drive appe ars (defaults) in the Select burner text box. 6 Click Disc Information to view informatio n about the BD disc inserted in the BD drive.
19 4 Click Straight t o Disc , and then click Next . Y our HDV or DV device connected to your computer displays in the Source text box. 5 Select the Capture mode from the drop-down list. Options include: Fixed duration , Marked d uration , or Full DV t ape .
