14 Step 2: Connecting to your TV Connect this player to your TV monitor, or projec tor using an audio/video (SCART) cord. This connection will use your TV speakers for sound. SCART input jack Be sure to make the connections firmly to avoid hum and noise.

16 Step 4: Connecting the Mains Lead Plug the player and TV mains lead (power cord) into a mains. Step 5: Preparing the Remote You can control the player using the supplied re mote. Insert two R6 (size AA ) batteries by matching the 3 and # ends on the batteries to the mark ings inside the compartment.

20 Playback Playing Discs Depending on the DVD or VIDEO CD, some operations may be different or restricted. Refer to the operating instructions supplied with your disc. 1 Turn on your TV. 2 Press [ / 1 . The player turns on. 3 Switch the input selecto r on your TV so that the signal from the player appears on the TV screen.

23 Playback Using the DVD’s Menu A DVD VIDEO is divided into long sections of a picture or a music feature called “titles.” Press TOP MENU to select a title you want when you play a DVD VIDEO which contains several titles.

31 Playback Sharpening the Picture (SHARPNESS) You can enhance the outlines of images to produce a sharper picture. 1 Press DISPLAY during playback (When playing a DATA CD or DATA DVD with JPEG image files, press twice). The Control Menu appears. 2 Press X / x to select (SHARPNESS), then press ENTER.

38 Sound Adjustments Changing the Sound When playing a DVD VIDEO or DATA CD (DivX video files)/ DATA DVD (DivX video files) recorded in mu ltiple audio formats (PCM, Dolb y Digital, MPE G audio, or DTS), you can change the audio format. If the DVD VIDEO is recorded with multilingual tracks, you can also change the langu age.
39 Sound Adjustments • When playing in DVD-VR mode: If you connect to an audio component usi ng the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL) jack and want to s witch between th e sound tracks, set “DOLBY DIGITAL” to “ D- PCM” in “AUDIO SETUP” (page 54).
40 TV Virtual Surround Settings (TVS) When you connect a stereo TV or 2 front speakers, TVS (TV Virtual Surround) lets you enjoy surround sound effects by using sound imaging to create virtua l rear speak ers from the sound of the front speakers (L: left, R: right) without usi ng actual rear speakers.
41 Enjoying MP3 Audio an d JPEG Images Enjoying MP3 Audio an d JPEG Images About MP3 Audio Tracks and JPEG Image Files MP3 is audio compression technology that satisfies the ISO/IEC MPEG regulat ions. JPEG is image compression technology. You can play DATA CDs/DATA DVDs that contain MP3 audio tracks or JPEG image files.
42 When you insert a DATA CD/DATA DVD and press H , the numbered tracks (or files) are played sequentially, from 1 through 7 . Any sub-albums/tracks (or files) contained within a currently selected album take priority over the next album in the same tree.
