30 BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT • Your new appliance is designed exclusively for domestic use To get the most out of your new appliance, read the user handbook thoroughly. The handbook contains a description of the appliance and useful tips for storing food.
31 PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS • Use the refrigerator compartment only for storing fresh food and beverages and use the freezer compartment only for storing frozen food, freezing fresh food and making ice cubes. • After installation, make sure that the appliance is not standing on the power supply cable.
32 INSTALLATION • Make sure that your refrigerator is not near a heat source. • Install it in a dry and well ven tilated room. • To ensure proper ventilation leav e a 1 cm space on both sides and a bove the refrigerator. • Clean the inside of the refrigerator before using it.
33 HOW TO OPERATE THE REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER • Connect the appliance to the water s upply and power supply (see Installation manual). • When the appliance is connected to the power supply, two hyphens will appear on the freezer display until the optimal temperature is reached.

This function deactivates both the refrigerator and freezer compar tments. When the standb y function is activ ated, two green do ts will appear on both of the d ispla ys.

T o activ ate the function press button (y ellow LED lights up). T° disappears from the display and a green dot appears.
36 Guide to the refrig erator/freez er and ice/water dispenser control panel Freezer/Refrigerator Door Open Alarm The refrigerator or freezer door symbol (or both) blinks (green LED), the acoustic alarm s ounds and the red LED lights up . The alarm is activated when: • One or both of the doors are left open for more th an 2 minutes.

39 Removal and rearrangement of the refrigerator and freezer shelves The shelves may be positioned to suit y our particular requirements. The glass shelves are strong enough to hold bottles, milk cartons and heavy food; noneth eless, avoid banging these down on the shelves.
40 Fruit and vegetables drawer moisture control • The control may be set to any position be tween LOW and HIGH . • excludes damp air from the drawer for better preservation of fruit and vegetab les with peel. • keeps damp air inside the drawer for bet ter preservation of leafy vegetables.
41 FREEZING The freezer compartment, marked with the symbol , is used for storing frozen food and freezing fresh or cooked food. It can also be used for making ice cubes. The inner door of the freezer, marked with the s ymbol **, is especially suitable for storing ice cream or froze n food with short storage time.
42 USE OF THE ICE AND WATER DISPENSER (ON SOME MODELS) Your freezer dispenses both cubed and crushed ice. When the appliance is switched on , the ice maker is activated and set to the “Ice cube” function. Its symbol lights up (yellow LED). For crushed ice, press the crushed ice button until the symbol lights up.
43 USE OF THE DISPENSER LIGHT AND DISPENSER LOCK (ON SOME MODELS) To dispense water: After the water dispenser has been switched on, throw the first glasses of water away, then the water can be use d. Repeat this operation whenever water has not been dispensed for a long time.
44 AUTOMATIC ICE MAKER Useful hints on the automatic ice maker To turn the ice maker on/off, press the On/O ff button . If the freezer compartment door is open, make sure the inside flap is not blocked as it serve s as lock sensor that shuts off the transfer of ice from the automa tic ice maker into the bucket installed in the door.
45 COMMON ICE MAKER PROBLEMS NOTE : Only use cubes from th e ice maker. PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION The dispenser does not wo rk. The freezer co mpartment door is open. The ice bucket is not p roperly installed. Close the freezer compar tment door . Make sure that the buc ket is pushed all the wa y in.
46 MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING Before any cleaning or maintenanc e operation, unplug the appliance from the mains or disconnect the electric al power supply. Periodically clean the refrigerator and freezer compartments with a sponge dampened in a s olution of lukewarm water and vinegar.
47 VACATION Short vacation There is no need to disconnect the refrig erator from the power supply if you will be away for less than three weeks. Use up perishable food, freeze othe r food. If your appliance has an automatic ice maker: 1. Turn it off; 2.
