I NTR ODUCTION 1-2 encoding and then compression of the signal into Internet Protocol (IP) pack ets. The V oIP Rout er is equippe d with a digital si gnal processor (DSP), which segments the voice s ignal into frames and stores them in voi ce pac kets .
A PPLICATIONS 1-3 Applications Many advanced netw orki ng features are provid ed by the Barricade: • Wireless and Wired LAN The Bar ricade provides connectiv ity to 10/100 Mbps devices , and wireless IEEE 802.11b/g compatible de vices , making it easy to create a network in small offices or homes.
I NTR ODUCTION 1-4 • DMZ Host Support Allows a netw orked computer to be fully exposed to the Inter net. This function is used when NAT and firewa ll security prevent an Internet application from functioning correctly .

If any of the items are missing or damaged, contact your lo cal distributor . Also be sure that you ha ve all the necessar y cabling be fore installing the Bar ricade.
I NSTALLATION 2-2 System Requirements T o install and connect to the Barricade, you must ha ve: • An ADSL line installed by your ISP. • An ADSL splitter (at least one). • A computer wi th a CD-ROM drive • Windows 2000 or late r, or Mac OS 9.x.
H ARDWARE D ESCRIPTION 2-3 Hardware Description The Bar ricade contains an integ rat ed ADSL2+ modem and connects to the Internet or to a remote site usin g its W AN por t. This device can be connected directly to your PC or to a local area network us ing any of the four F ast Ethernet LAN por ts.

C ONNECT THE S YSTEM 2-7 Connect the System The Bar ricade can be posit ioned at any conv enient location in your office or home. It can also be w all-mount ed. No special wiring or cooling requirements are neede d. Y ou should, howev er, comply with the following guidelines: • Keep the Barricade away from any heating devices.
I NSTALLATION 2-8 Warning: Do not plug a phone jack connect or into an RJ-45 port. This may damage the Barricade. Note: Use 100-ohm shielded or unshielded twisted-pair cable with RJ-45 connectors for all Ethernet por ts . Categ or y 5 cable is recommended .

3-1 C HAPTER 3 C ONFIGURING C LIENT PC After completing hardware setup b y connecting all your network devices , you need to configure your comput er to connect to the Barricade. See: “Windows 2000” on page 3-3 “Windows XP” on page 3-6 or “Configuring Y our Macintosh Computer” on page 3-8 depending on your operating system.
C ONFIGURING C LIENT PC 3-2 TCP/IP Configuration T o access the Internet through the Barricade, yo u must config ure the network settings of the computers on y our LAN to use the sa me IP subnet as the Barricade. The default IP se ttings for the Barricade are: IP Address: 192.

C ONFIGURING C LIENT PC 3-4 Disable HTTP Proxy Y ou need to verify that the “ HTTP Pr o xy” feature of your w eb browser is disabled. This is so that your br owser can view the Ba rricade’ s HTML configuration pages.

W INDOWS XP 3-7 Obtain IP Settings from Your Barricade Now that y ou hav e configured your computer to connect to your Bar ricade, it needs to obtain new network settings . By releasing old DHCP IP settings and renewing them with se tti ngs from your Barricade, you can verify that y ou have configured your computer correctly .
C ONFIGURING C LIENT PC 3-8 Configuring Your Macintosh Computer Y ou may find that the instr uctions here do not exactly matc h your operating system. This is because thes e steps and screenshots were created using Mac OS 10.2. Mac OS 7.x and abov e are similar, but may not be identical to Mac OS 10.

N AVIGATING THE M ANAGEMENT I NTERFACE 4-3 The Bar ricade’ s manage ment interface consists of a Setup Wizard and an Advanced Setup section. Setup Wizard: Use the Setup Wizard if y ou want to quic kly set up the Bar ricade. Go to “SETUP WIZARD” on page 4-4 .

S ETUP W IZARD 4-5 ADSL Setting Select your Country and Inter net Ser vic e Provider . This will automatically configure the Barricade with the co r rect Protocol, Encapsulation and VPI/V CI settings for your ISP . If your Cou ntr y or Inte rnet Ser vice Provider is not listed in this screen, you will need to man ually enter settings.

S ETUP W IZARD 4-9 Parameter Description Wireless Parameters SSID The SSID must be the sam e on the Barricade and all of its wireless clients. SSID Broadcast The status of enabli ng or disabling the broadcasting of the SSID. Wireless Mode This device supports bo th 11g and 11b wireless networ ks.

The Bar ricade suppor ts the following modes: •A T M P V C • Clone MAC •D N S ATM PVC T o configure your Internet Connection settings , select ATM PVC , then VC 1 .

VPI/VCI Displays the Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) and Virtual Circuit Identifier (VCI) co nfigured for the c orresponding VC. Encapsulation Disp lays the Encapsulatio n configured for the corres ponding VC.

If this is the case, and y ou hav e previously re gistered the MA C a ddress of another device, the MA C address of the Bar ricade must be changed to the MA C address that you have registered with y our ISP .

A DV ANCE D S ETUP 4-33 VLAN The Bar ricade’ s VLAN function can be used to create up to 4 VLAN profiles . Once a VLAN profile is create d interfaces can be assigned to the VLAN profile. This is done by setting the VLAN binding . Notes: Only interfaces of IEEE 802 brid ging type (LAN ports 1-4 and 1483 Bridging PVC’s) can be assigned to a VLAN.

A DV ANCE D S ETUP 4-35 WIRELESS The Bar ric ade also operates as a wire less access point, allowing wireless computers to communicate with each ot her . T o configure this function, all you need to do is enable the wirele ss function, define the radio channel, the SSID , and the security options .
C ONFIGURING THE V OICE ADSL R OUTER 4-36 Channel and SSID Y ou must specify a com mon radio cha nnel and SSID (Ser vice Set ID) to be used b y the Barricade and all of its wireless clients . Be sure you configure all of its clie nts to the same values .
A DV ANCE D S ETUP 4-37 Access Control Using the Access Control functionality , you can restrict access based on MA C address . Each PC has a uniqu e identifier known as a Medi um Access Control (MA C) address .

It pr ovides dynamic key encryption and 802.1x authentication ser vice. Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WP A2) is a pr oduct certific ation that is av ailable through the Wi-Fi Alliance.

A DV ANCE D S ETUP 4-57 MAC Filter The MAC Filter allows you to define what client PC’ s can access the Inter net. When enabled only the MAC addresses defined in the MA C Filtering table will have access to the In terne t. All other client devices will be denied access .
C ONFIGURING THE V OICE ADSL R OUTER 4-58 URL Blocking The Bar ricade all ows the user to bloc k access to web sites by entering either a full URL address or just a ke yw ord. T his feature can be used to protect children from access ing violent or pornog raphic web sites .
A DV ANCE D S ETUP 4-59 Schedule Rule Y ou may filter Inter net access for loca l clients based on r ules . Each access control r ule may be acti vated at a sc heduled time. Define the schedule on the Schedule Rule screen , and apply the r ule on the Access Control screen.
