Introdu ction The Site com MD-25 3/254 Home S torage Ce nter makes it ea s y to share your documents, m usic and vi deos across y our network or even on to the internet. T he device can hol d u p to two 3.5” SATA drives of any ca pacity, su pportin g JBOD, RAID 0 and RAID 1, offering fle xibi lity an d security.

Prepar ing the Home Storag e Center.
Easy inst allation Configu ring the Home Storage C enter Windo ws Insert the CD-Rom t o your CD-Rom dr ive. T he CD wi ll start and prese nt you an option m enu. Sel ect ‘Laun ch Home St orage Center Uti lity’ The Site com Home Storag e Center Insta ller off ers an easy step by step instal lation f l ow.
1. Select y our lang uage from t he drop dow n box. Press Start to conti nue. 2. The install er i s now detectin g the ‘Home St orage Center’. Wait t ill the pro gress bar is comp lete ly fi lle d.
Warning: If there are is a ny add itio nal f irewa ll software i nstalled , s uch as McAfee, Norton, Panda e.g. you may be requir ed to un block the S it ecom instal ler i n th is software. Please refer t o the d ocumentation of your firewal l softwar e.
5. The install er now shows the name of th e detected hard drive(s), th e si ze and S.M.A.R. T. status. To co ntinue c lick Form at Disk. 6. Choose a name for your ‘Home st orage ce nter’. Thi s is how t he storage ce nter wil l b e recogni zed wit hin yo ur network.
7. Now we w i ll create a publ ic s hare. This fold er is for general u sage and al lows anonymous access. (See We b conf igurati on->User management -> sh ared fol der management.) 8. Choose t he maximu m size f or the pu blic fold er. Enter ‘0’ for maxi mum.
9. The s hare can now be map ped to a drive l etter. Choose a desired drive l etter from the drop down box. Thi s is how the share wil l ap pear in ‘My c omputer’. Cl ick Next to conti nue. 10. Your ‘Home storage cent er’ is now ready for use.
11. Ent er a user name and password; t hese credent ials wi ll be requir ed to access the personal fold er. Cho ose a desi red driv e lette r from the drop dow n box. Clic k Next to conti nue. 12. The personal f ol der has be en created and m apped. Cli ck Finish.
Packag es instal lation The package install er al lows you to expan d the f unctional ities of yo ur Home Storage Center. Select th e packages you wi sh to i nstall and c lick ‘ Finish’ to instal l thes e packages and conti nue to autosav e.
AutoSave In stallation After the Insta ller i s f ini shed, i t wi ll automatical ly start the instal lation f or your free backup software, A utoSave. Autosave wi ll a utomatical ly backu p your photo s, musi c and doc uments the H ome Storage Center.
3. Fill in a n opti onal name and organizati on and cl ick Ne xt . 4. Click Ne xt to i nstall AutoSave to t he defau lt lo cation o n your computer..
5. Click Ne xt to be gin the Instal lation. 6. Click fin ish to end the instal latio n and la unch AutoSa ve.

Configuring the Home S torage Cen ter Mac When in serting th e CD a wind ow appears. Cl ick th e Install Home Stora ge Center packet in staller. Click Co ntinue in the introduct ion pag e.
The insta ller i s now detect ing the ‘H ome Storage Ce nter’. Wait ti ll the progress bar is comp lete ly fi lle d. After the d etection is finis hed the instal ler wi ll show the detected har d drives. Click Co ntinue to conti nue the i nstall ation.
Click OK to f ormat the dis k(s) in the N AS. The dis k(s) are bei ng f ormatted, this could take some tim e. Note: When 2 hard driv es are i nserted the instal ler wi ll aut omaticall y format the drives using R AID 1 for data rel iabi lit y. (See ad dendum for m ore inf ormation on storage schemes.
Now we w ill create a p ubli c share. Thi s fol der is for general usage and allo ws anonymous access. (See We b conf igurati on->User management -> sh ared fol der management.) The insta ller w il l create an alias to the share i n your user fol der.

The insta ller w il l wri te confi guration f il es to you r computer, c lick Instal l to continu e. The insta llati on prompts you for the root password of the comp uter.
The insta llati on is fi nish ed, cli ck Close. The al iases to th e shares can be foun d in your home fo lder or i n the f older of y our choic e..
Configuring T ime Machine Click t he Time M achi ne i con to start the config uration A message a ppears to i nform you Time Mach ine has not yet been confi gured, cl ick Set Up Time Machine .
Select t he TimeMac hin e on “S itecomNas(Time Machine)” an d cli ck Use for Backup You’ll be prompted for a us ername and a pas sword. Thi s is t he defau lt username an d password of the us erinterface of the Si tecom Home Storage Center.
Web con figurati on Open your w eb brows er (Firefox, I nternet expl orer, Chrome or any oth er web browser). Enter the host name you have set in th e instal ler software in t he previ ous chapter (default: S itecomNas) in t he address bar. You wi ll be prompte d for a username and pass word.
Status All informatio n re garding t he current confi guration settin gs can be f ound h ere. The system , event and connection log pa ges lo g all latest ev ents all owin g good i nsig ht in the security an d stab ili ty of th e setup. This page gi ves an ov erview of the current net work settings a nd whic h servi ces are activated.
System/Event /Connection lo g The log s gi ve an overv iew of a ll latest lo gged s ystem events. If there is not e nough internal memory for al l events, l ogs of o lder event s are delete d, but l ogs of the lat est events are retain ed.
Setup Here you can co nfig ure the Home Storage Center. System set tings Device name: Ente r a desire d name f or your Home Stora ge Center. Thi s wil l be the name of the device wit hin yo ur network. Workgroup: Choose the name of the Workgroup t he Home Storage Center has to be added to.
Network se ttings Here the l ocal network settin gs are conf igure d. Type: Select either D ynamic I P to automatical ly ac quire netw ork setting from a DHCP server wit hin th e network (i. e. router) or choose Stati c to set the network parameters manual ly.
Disk settings RAID function: Choose JBOD, R AID 0 or RAID 1 . Scan Disk: Scan the c onnected hard drives f or errors. Format: Formats the di sk dri ve. Refresh: This w il l re load the page. Warning: this w ill d elete al l data f rom the driv e. Note: for more inf ormation ab out these data storage schem es please s ee Addend um.
Date and time s ettings Time zone: Select your time zon e from the drop- down l ist. Manual setting: Select th e correspon ding ra dio butto n to manual ly set current date and time.
NTP time server: Place a ch eck in t he correspon din g radio button and select a t ime server if y ou woul d l ike to sy nchronize th e devi ce’s clock to a Network Time S erver over the i nternet. Manage NTP time servers : Ad d or del ete a NTP t imeserver address f rom the l ist.
User s etting s In the User settings menu, access to t he storage c enter and users are managed. In the User management secti on you can create, del ete or mod ify users and ass ign quotas to thes e users. Shared folder manage ment all ows co nfigur ing al l fo lders on t he storage center.
User manageme nt Create a user Username: Enter a desir ed username. Password: Enter a pa ssword for th e username. Quota settings: Enter a value to restrict th e user to a maxi mum ca pacity or enter 0 for unli mited. Click ‘A ppl y’ for any of t he change s to take eff ect.
Modify a user Enter the d esired s ettings and cl ick ‘ap ply’. Click o n the us ername to modi fy the user. Click ‘De lete’ to remove the user.
Shared folder management Service status : Enab le or D isabl e Samba. Security mode: ‘Gue st’ wi ll all ow restricte d access f or anonymous us ers. ‘User’ wi ll only al low acce ss to us ers created in user management. Click ‘A ppl y’ for any of t he chan ges to take eff ect.
Create a user fold er: Clic k ‘add’. A pop up wi ndow wi ll a ppear. Fil l in a F old er Name and Securit y Mode . If ‘Personal’ is ch osen, us ers have to be added to t he fo lder i n the next step.
Servic es BitTorrent The downl oad ed fi les are store d in t he BitTorrent f older, w hich by defaul t is not mapped to yo ur comput er. You can acc ess it v ia Network -> [Home S torage Cent er Name] -> Bittorrent on any Wind ows com puter. Service status: E nabl e or disa ble the BitTorren t server.
Add a BitTorrent: Click browse a nd sel ect a .t orrent fil e to upload . Once confirmed with ‘Ap ply’ the down load progress is shown i n current down loads. Click ‘A ppl y’ for any of t he chan ges to take eff ect. Current downloads: Here current pro gress of th e torrents is show n.
ITunes serve r The iTu nes server makes it easy t o share your mus ic fi les wit h other iTunes appli cations wit hin your network. Service status: Ena ble or d isabl e the i Tunes s erver. If enab le i s chose n a musi c folder m ust be select ed. Music folder: To se lect and share a musi c f older.
UPnP AV se rver The Twonky m edia server t urns your ‘Home s torage center’ i nto a DLNA cert ifie d multime dia server. Easil y watch yo ur pictures or stream music a nd vid eo over other devices such a s media players, PS3 and many other DLNA compati ble devic es.
FTP server The FTP server makes it poss ibl e to eas ily s hare fil es on the internet. On this page FTP acc ess can be managed and t he server parameters conf igured. Service status: Enabl e or disable the FTP server. PASV Mode Port Range : Enter the port range you woul d l ike to use fo r passive FTP server mode.
Toolbox Reboot When the storage center shows a bnormal behavi or it may be re quired to restart the device. C li ck ‘Reboot’ to restart the dev ice. To undo al l current setti ngs cl ick ‘R estore’. Note: This wi ll erase all current sett ings.
Firmwa re upda te This too l al lows y ou to u pgrade the f irmware. Intranet Upgrad e To upgrade t he fi rmware, you nee d to dow nload the firmware fi le to y our local hard disk, a nd enter that f i le name a nd path i n the appro priate fi eld on thi s page.
Packag e managem ent (M D-254 only) Package management al lows you to ma nage addi tional packages f or the Home storage center. T hese package s can be in stalle d through th e ‘Easy insta llatio n wizard’ the ‘Package in stallati on wizard’ or manual ly.
Once the pa ckage is inst alled it becom es vis ible in the current package list. From here you can c hoose to either ‘ Start’, ‘Stop’ or ‘Del ete’ the sel ected pa ckage.
USB Ba ckup You can use the USB port on th e back of t he Home Storage Cent er to make a compl ete backup of the content on any USB Mass St orage devi ce, s uch as a removable hard drive or USB stic k. Insert the USB device i nto the USB port, and pr ess the Backup button for 5 seconds.
Addend um: Cho osing a sto rage sche me The Home Storage C enter su pports 3 diff erent storage schemes. The fo llow ing wil l outli ne the b enefits and disadvantages of each of these s chemes. JBOD (Just a Bun ch Of Disk s) Advantages: Mini mum of 1 hard dri ve is all owed.
