9 Introduction Congratulations on purchasing a Simmons ® CaptureVie w ® CV -4. CV -4 is an 8 x 30mm full-featured binocular . It is integrated with a waterproof digital camera that requires no film to capture pictures or video . This manual is designed to quickly guide you through the operation of y our CaptureView CV -4.
Adjust Eye Relief Adjust the Barrels Y ou will need to adjust the barrels as the distance betw een your e yes is usually different than the distance between another person’ s ey es. If you wear e yeglasses , fold down the rubber ey ecups and hold the ey epieces up against your glasses.
11 Using Y our Binocular Focus the Binocular 1. Set the Diopter Scale on underside of CaptureView at its center point between “+” and “-. ” 2. Choose an object (such as a telephone pole) that is at least 50 feet (15m.) a wa y . 3. Looking with only y our left eye , rotate the Focus Knob until the object y ou are vie wing is focused.
CV -4 is water proof and seals in the electronics, batteries, memory card and USB por t. Howe ver , this means that you will need to install the batteries and SD or MMC card, and carefully seal the compartment to ensure water proofing. 13 CaptureView has three modes: Menu, Previe w (Still, Movie and Flashbac k) and Playbac k. Use the Preview mode Select the Menu mode Select the Playbac k mode When you first turn on the camera or when you e xit the Menu mode, the Preview mode is operational and the LCD screen displays a liv e image.
T urn on Camera Display Menus Move the Red Selection Bo x through the Menus Select a Menu or Menu Option Go Back to the Last Displa yed Menu Exit the Menus or the Playbac k Mode Press and hold the Menu button f or 3 seconds to turn on the camera. Press the Menu button to displa y the menus.
15 Select Near or Far Focus 1. Press and hold down the Mode button f or 3 seconds to turn on the camera. 2. The binocular can be focused using the focus knob . Howe ver , the camera can be set to Near or F ar focus using the focus ring, and is not aff ected by the focus knob .
CaptureView perf orms best under good lighting conditions. T ake some time to practice capturing still pictures and video . T ake a Still Picture 1. Press and hold the Menu b utton for 3 to 5 seconds to turn on the camera. P oint the binoculars and images will appear on the LCD .
Capture Video 1. Press and hold the Menu b utton for 3 to 5 seconds to turn on the camera. P oint the binoculars and images will appear on the LCD . 2. Press the Menu b utton again and a menu screen displa ys on the LCD . Use the Right or Left button to mo ve the red selection box o ver the Mo vie option.
Other Menu Options If you w ant to ... Do this... 18 For e xample, y ou may w ant to record a baseball pitcher throwing a pitch: 1. Select the Settings menu and press the Menu button. 2. Select the Flashback P er iod submen u and press the Menu button.
Other Menu Options Some suggestions f or using Flashback 19 Let’ s say y our daughter is on the varsity bask etball team. And r ight now , she’ s dr ib bling down the court. Y ou’d lik e to capture her patented hook shot on video . This is a job for Flashbac k.
20 Playbac k Images Note: A counter appears at the upper left. If the counter reads 3/5, for e xample, it means the third of fiv e items . A movie counts as one item.
21 If you w ant to ... Do this... • While in Playbac k mode, press the Up and Down down b uttons to zoom in on a still image on the display . • Once the z oom le v el is g reater than “1, ” press the Right or Left button to activ ate the panning mode.
22 Use Other Playbac k Options Besides playing bac k images and video , the Playbac k menu provides other options: Delete Last Image, Delete All Images and F ormat. Delete Last Ima ge Delete All Images Format Storage Media • While in Playbac k mode, press the Menu button once to displa y Playbac k setting submenus.
Playback Options Change Resolution 1. Use the Right or Left b utton to mov e the selection box o ver the Resolution menu (the "2M" icon) and press the Menu button to display . 2. Use the Right or Left button to mo v e the selection box to the desired Resolution option.
24 • Select “A uto” to allow CaptureVie w to automatically select dark-light exposure of the image . Nor mally , you will use this setting. This is the default setting. • Select “Cloudy” to compensate for the changing light condition of a cloudy da y .
25 • Mov e the selection box o ver the Settings Menu icon and press the Menu button to displa y the Settings submenus. 1. Choose the Time and Date icon to set the current time and date . Use the Right and Left buttons to scroll through the settings on each line of the cloc k menu.
26 • Choose this icon to turn the beep on or off. • Select “Normal” for capturing images without any eff ects. • Select “Classical” to add a sepia tint to the images you capture . • Select “Blac k and White” to capture images in blac k and white.
27 • Choose the Date Stamp icon and then select “On” to record the date stamp (the current time and date) while taking still pictures. The date appears in the lower right corner of all pictures . • Choose the Date Stamp icon and then select “Off ” when you do not wish to record the date stamp .
28 • Y ou are downloading pictures or video to a PC. • An SD card is in the camera. T o load or eject memor y card: Press the card in and release when you hear a clic k. The card may be read b y an y flash card reader . By using a flash card reader , you can also download y our images to a Macintosh using an OS earlier than 9.
29 Installing Software If you w ant to ... Do this... 1. Insert supplied CD Rom into your PC’ s drive. 2. A splash screen displa ys. Click on “Ulead Photo Express. ” 3. F ollow on-screen instructions. 4. After you clic k “Finish, ” the Ulead Photo Express icon appears on your desktop .
CV -4 is designed to be used by the spor tsperson, boater or casual user in an environment in which e xposure to water , such as rain, mist, splashing and so f or th, might be a possibility . Howev er , it is not designed to take pictures underw ater nor is it intended for an y application underwater .
The included CD ROM contains other softw are programs by Ulead that will assist y ou in editing your images , allow you to transf er images to email, and provide y ou with other useful functions.
