Quick Start Guide SIEMENS SL2-141-I ADSL WLAN Router • Do never open the housing! • Use only the power supply pr ovided with this device. • Use only the cables pro vided with this device and do not perform any modifications on them.
2 Before you begin V erify that the following it ems came with your SIEMENS SL2-141-I kit: System Requirements Befor e star ting the installation of the ADSL WL AN Router , make sur e your com puter is equipped with: • L AN inter face (Ethernet) with RJ45 sock et (Windows NT4, 98, ME, 2000, XP , Vista, Mac OS 9.
3 Step 1: Install the ISDN ADSL Splitter The ADSL technology uses the existing t elephone line f or the broadband entrance. With the ISDN installation a ISDN ADSL -Splitter must be installed to separat e the freq uency ranges of ADSL and ISDN and to pr event disturbances at ISDN phones or fax mac hines.
4 Connect the ADSL WLAN Router to the exchange connection 1. Remove the plug on the t elephone or the fax machine fr om the telephone sock et. 2. Insert the ADSL -Splitter into the telephone soc ke t.

6 Step 3: USB driver installation The USB driver is only working on the f ollowing operating syst em (OS): Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windo ws 2000 and Windows XP . If your ADSL WL AN Router is NO T equipped with an Eht ernet int erface you have t o install first the USB driver in order t o be able to configur e your ADSL WLAN Router .
7 Step 4: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) Introduction In step 4, y ou will learn how to configur e your comput er to communicat e with the SIEMENS ADSL WL AN Router . T o do this, you will need to configur e your PC’s netw ork settings t o obtain an IP address auto- matically .
8 1) Choose a T CP/IP entr y whose name contains Ethernet adapter . Do not choose a T CP/IP entr y whose name is PPPoE, VPN or other . 2) If there is no T CP/IP line listed, refer t o the User Manual on your Ae thra CD-ROM to install T CP/IP now . Windows 98 users need the Windows 98 Installation CD to com plet e the installa- tion.
9 3 2 Step 4b: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) for Windows NT4 1. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel . Double-click on the Network icon. The Network scr een will appear . 2. Select the Protocol tab and highlight the TCP/IP line . Click on Properties .
10 Step 4c: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) for Windows 2000 1. Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel . Double-click on the Network and Dial-up Connections icon. The Network scr een will appear . 2. Select the Local Area Connection icon for the applicable Ethernet adap ter (usually it is the first Local Area Connection list ed).
11 Step 4d: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) for Windows XP The follo wing instructions assume you ar e running Windows XP’s default interface. If you are using the Classical int er face (where the icons and menus look lik e pre vious Windows ver- sions), please follo w the instructions for Windows 2000 (S tep 4c).
12 Step 4e: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) for Windows Vista 1. Click on start -> Control Panel . Click on the Network and Sharing Center icon. Click on Broadband Connections → Properties . 2. The “Local Area Connection S tatus” screen will appear .
13 Step 4f: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) for Mac OS 9.x 1. Fr om the Apple Menu, point to Control Panels and then click TCP/IP . 2. Fr om the Connect via pull-down menu select Ethernet built-in . F rom the Configure pull-down menuselect Using DHCP Ser ver .
14 Step 4g: Configure the PC (TCP/IP settings) for Mac OS X 1. Fr om the Apple Menu , select System Preferences... 2. Click on the Network icon in the Internet & Network area. 3. Fr om the Show pull-do wn select Built-in Ethernet . On the T CP/IP tab, select Using DHCP from the Configure pull-down menu.
15 Step 5: Configure the ADSL WLAN Routers (Internet Access) 1. Start your web br owser (e.g. Int ernet Explor er) and type 192.168.1.1 in the addr ess field of the brow ser . Press Enter . Enter in the field <Username> admin and in the field <Passwor d> admin as well and click Next> .
16 The Quick Setup window appears: 4. Be sure, the Auto Scan Internet Connection (PVC) option is select ed. Click Next > . The scanning proces s will be star ted and can take se veral minut es. Afterwards the det ected connection will be displa yed.
17 The Configure Internet Connection - WAN IP Settings window appears: 6. Select Optain an IP address automatically and enable NAT . T ype 1492 in the MTU: field and click Next > . The follo wing window appears: 7. For <PPP User Name> enter the username and f or <PPP Passw ord> the password .
18 8. T ake o ver the settings displa y ed in the Configure LAN side Settings window and click Next > . The L AN configuration will be star ted. 9. The window This Internet Connection - Summary shows the W AN and L AN settings you made. The values must match t o those values you ge t from y our ISP .
19 10. The installation is done and your ADSL WL AN Router will reboo t. This will take about 1-2 minutes. 11. The window Connect to Internet appears. If needed, enter the username and password and click Connect> . The connection to the Int ernet will be established.
20 Step 6: Configure the Wireless LAN (WLAN) of your ADSL WLAN Routers Using radio wav es, a wireles s network intr oduces some security risks which are no t present in a wired ne twork; an unauthorized third party can intercep t transmitted data, gain acces s to your wir eless netw ork.
21 3. Select Wireless Security: WPA-PSK. 4. Select Data Encryption: AES and enter y our ke y (passw ord) in the field Pre-Shared Key: . The choosen k ey must ha ve at least 8 digits, but no t more than 64 digits.
